August 14Aug 14 Caught a trailer for this on It’s Always Sunny but can’t locate it online. I’ll keep looking. This looks really good. Ethan Hawke and Harjo reunite for a “Tulsa noir” show. Debuts 9/23. https://www.oklahoman.com/story/entertainment/2025/05/14/the-lowdown-disney-plus-premiere-tulsa-oklahoma-ethan-hawke/83613575007/
August 14Aug 14 Man I miss Reservation Dogs. That was one of my favorite shows of the last several years.
August 14Aug 14 The primary filming location is about a mile from my house, I drove by it a bunch during filming. I have several friends who appear as extras. Really looking forward to this one, Harjo and Hawke aren’t going to miss. Edited August 14Aug 14 by 'stache
August 20Aug 20 Back in January, I was shopping at the Love Me Two Times antique store in Tulsa not paying any attention at all to the guy standing next to me in the heavy coat and ballcap. Suddenly, a young lady approached from behind saying "Oh my God, can I have a picture with you??" Turned around to realize the guy to my left was Ethan Hawke. She asked him what he was doing in Tulsa and he said they were 'shooting a TV show'. So, I've been impatiently awaiting the release of this since. Donald Washberg for Governor!!! September 4Sep 4 Hawke’s character, Lee Raybon, is based on a real Tulsan, Lee Roy Chapman. The character is described as a “citizen journalist” and “self-proclaimed Tulsa “truthstorian” whose obsession with the truth is always getting him into trouble.” Chapman was best known for an in depth article he wrote about one of Tulsa’s founders Tate Brady and his role founding the local KKK chapter and participation in the Tulsa Race Massacre among other bad shit. The part of downtown Tulsa north of the tracks and west of Greenwood was named the Brady Arts District. The main street was named Brady, a theater in the district was named the Brady Theater, and a nearby neighborhood where his mansion still sits was named Brady Heights. After the expose his name was taken off of all that stuff. I’m not sure if Chapman’s work directly involved other early KKK founders but after the Tate article other historical figures were exposed, including John Rogers whose name was on the University of Tulsa College of Law’s building and was thereafter removed. Sounds like this show has him doing similar stuff but exposing current day people. Really looking forward to this show. https://www.centerforpublicsecrets.org/post/the-nightmare-of-dreamland-tate-brady-and-the-tulsa-outrage https://www.centerforpublicsecrets.org/library/categories/lee-roy-chapman Edited September 4Sep 4 by 'stache
September 24Sep 24 First two episodes were great. The background setting was mostly the square mile around me. I can’t be objective though. Sterling Harjo’s humor is really close to mine and I’m a huge fan. Hawke is excellent in the role.

Having lived here four the past four years, it’s fun to see the locations and catch all of the local mentions. But I can see how it would be a little off-putting to some. It definitely captures the look and feel of Tulsa. Kyle MacLachlan’s character is a bit of a caricature that doesn’t land for me, but I am enjoying everything else about this.
September 26Sep 26 Long pilot was long but I really liked it. I'll probably watch the 2nd one tomorrow. Hawke has a real The Dude kind of look going. Hoot Owl Books looked like my kind of place. I loved the Bob Wills is still the King motif. It also made me want to read more Jim Thompson.
September 26Sep 26 I thought that was her. The girl in the convenience store was watching a makeup video with Elora in it also.

September 30Sep 30 I really enjoyed the first 2 episodes. Great role for Hawke. It’d probably be a great show if it was just Hawke hanging out in his book shop with recurring characters. Credit to Harjo for giving the season a compelling story.

October 1Oct 1 Seems like a good show so far. I did some background work on this show for a few days and was involved in the funeral scene and wake which was shot at the First Baptist Church North Tulsa on Greenwood back in May. Was really impressed with Sterlin Harjo. He actually spent time directing and chatting with extras. Very laidback guy who seems to really love what he does. During the reception scene, Harjo came up and told me to take my phone out and act like I was filming the confrontation. Of course, you’re not supposed to have a camera on set. But after a few takes, I decided - what the heck - and turned my phone on and filmed a few takes.
October 1Oct 1 Very cool. Ethan Hawke singing "John Brown's Body" was funnier if you knew that he played Brown in Good Lord Bird. Edited October 1Oct 1 by WBT
October 8Oct 8 I’m enjoying the show. Great hangout show with a compelling mystery to drive the action. My only note is to cast somebody else instead of Tripplehorn. She’s a great actress, but at her advanced age and weight she’s not catching many flies.
October 8Oct 8 It's very Lebowski-esque, then come to find out that it's intentionally an homage to Raymond Chandler, so that makes sense. Enjoying it.

October 9Oct 9 That was one fine episode. From that first scene with Dale telling his story out on the ranch, to Lee's heartbreak of seeing his ex-wife finally officially moving on, to his middle-aged dad bod gallavanting around in his skivies, and then the unraveling of the mystery with a shocking exclamation point at the end. Just damn good storytelling.

She has to be a character on age close to the two brothers. But she always just exudes sex bomb to me, I guess going back to that scene with Michael Douglas decades ago. She looked mighty hot to me. But I’m old.

I gotta try it next time I’m in Tulsa unless it sucks. There and old root beer stand chili dog shack I usually go to. also that diner next to the hoot owl. Is that a real joint? Tripplehorn is the same age as Jessica Walter (Lucille Bluth) when Arrested Development first aired. She’s a great actress, just not aging super well.

Sadly, Sweet Emily’s is fictional. Root beer place is probably Weber’s on Peoria. Or maybe Brownie’s on Harvard?
October 11Oct 11 It’s Weber’s. Always takes me back to my childhood. Root beer in chilled frosty mugs. I’ve been told about Ike’s and always intend to go there. Edited October 11Oct 11 by Texzilla58
October 16Oct 16 Nothing much to add except to agree with the Coen-ness and the overall quality. Good shit.
