Just perfect.

For those of you who follow basketball recruiting, what can we expect from this kid? Ā What type of player is he? Can he shoot?Ā

Strengths

  • Above average athlete, especially for his size/frame, who can run and run and run
  • Skilled with the ball in his hands, particularly when he has a step and is going towards the hoop
  • Mechanically sound shooter
  • Exhibits solid hoops IQ with his passing and rebounding ability
  • Has a love for the game that shows out in his work ethic and attitude
  • Has the explosiveness to finish above the rim and be effective in the open floor
  • Can guard multiple positions without a ton of issue
  • Probably isn’t done growing (an athletic 6’7 is a possibility)

Growth Areas

  • Pretty desperately needs to spend time in the weight room, especially if he isn’t done growing
  • Not a great shooter off the bounce
  • Could be a high quality spot up shooter, but will have to prove that at game speed
  • Needs to tighten up his handle in traffic

How He Fits

With point/combo guards Matt Coleman, Eli Long and Courtney Ramey already a part of the program, a taller wing player was going to be a necessity in this class and Williams fits that bill nicely. The impending departures of both Kerwin Roach and Andrew Jones will mean Williams and current Longhorn Jase Febres should be able to split minutes at the three spot along with some combination of Brock Cunningham and Gerald Liddell.

Ā

But can he throw a football accurately on the run?
Not worth a damn, doomed.
