September 15, 20187 yr Any of you grow up on the old school films like The Sword in the Stone, Charlie the Lonesome Cougar or The Living Desert (True-Life Adventures)? Those films are burned into my memory. Always enjoyed them.
September 15, 20187 yr Hell yeah. Swiss Family Robinsons, Treasure Island, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Old Yeller, Apple Dumpling Gang, all the Herbie the Lovebug movies. We had an old 2 screen cinema in Garland off Walnut Hill that would show old Disney live action movies during the summer in the 80s. Went there every Wednesday with the daycare my mother took us to.

September 15, 20187 yr Every Sunday night in front of the TV . First it was Mutual of Omahas, Wild Kingdom, followed by the Wonderful World Of Disney. That dude that narrated all the animal features, his voice still plays in my head.

September 15, 20187 yr Always thought the parks have missed out by not having a land themed on the old live action movies. Lots of fodder for rides and attractions.

I dread the day I have to make my son watch Old Yeller and then tell him to go shoot our dog, but it’s one of the few rites of passage to manhood left in our society today.
September 15, 20187 yr Sword in the Stone and Robin Hood were on a constant loop at my house as a kid.
September 15, 20187 yr The Jungle Book is my all time favorite Disney animated flick, Oh...I'm the king of the jungle, a jungle VIP... another vaulted never to be seen flick, along with Song of The South.
September 15, 20187 yr I remember Dad was dating a woman in Dallas and dropped me off at a multi screen theater to watch Herbie Rides Again while he got some. I watched Death Wish instead. I still stand by that decision.

September 15, 20187 yr Sword in the Stone is one of my all time favorites. Apparently I watched Swiss Family Robinson so much that I ruined it for the rest of my siblings and they all hate it now.
September 15, 20187 yr Lots of memories watching those films at the old Fox 3 theater on Airport, where the Mercedes dealership is now located. The had a summer kids movie program. Good times.

Frontierland was supposed to mimic the Davy Crockett movies, even down to the Indian village. And the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride at WDW back in the day was pretty kickass.

September 17, 20187 yr My son loved the Davy Crockett movie so much when he was 4 that we wore out two VHS copies. He had a coonskin cap and his mom made him a little buckskin outfit, complete with fringes.CSB: Fess Parker had a winery and was doing an appearance at Spec's in Houston. We took my son, in full regalia, and got a picture with him. Fess thought it was awesome.

September 18, 20187 yr The post Walt / pre Eisner Disney produced some unique and interesting movies.
September 18, 20187 yr My favorite live action Disney as a kid was Toby Tyler. The younger brother from Old Yeller and Swiss Family Robinson runs away and joins the circus.

Neither Walt nor Eisner would have bought it, and I can't think of a studio that would've otherwise tried the risk. Maybe 20th Century Fox in the mid-1970s? But then they wouldn't be around today...
September 18, 20187 yr Here's some from my late 70s/early 80s childhood: Escape to Witch Mountain The Black Hole Midnight Madness Condorman
September 18, 20187 yr I saw Song of the South at the local theater when I was a kid in the late 60s or early 70s. Also, embarrassingly, Darby O'Gill and the Little People scared the shit out of me for some reason that I couldn't recall. Then some shag poster put up a picture of that wraith/banshee and it all came back to me. Fucker

Loved that movie because back then I had no idea what the undertones meant. Still makes me chuckle that there’s a ride based on the cartoon characters.
