Horror movie told from the dog's POV, got raves at SXSW. It should go without saying that I'm in on opening weekend.

fuck that...didn't even make it through the trailer

If anyone is (rightfully) concerned about the dog's fate, I went ahead and looked up that spoiler for you.

Spoiler

Nope. 10 seconds of trailer. Nope.

I don’t think Tony Soprano would like this movieSaddest Things About Tony

On occasion, however, Tony's kinder side shines through. He has a particular soft spot for animals, which, as Melfi discovers, is common among diagnosed sociopaths. He also, in rare cases, shows empathy for his fellow humans.

Only a psychopath would want to watch this.

Nope, nope, nope, and nope.  My daughter is going to try like hell to drag me to this, and I'll probably have to distract her by agreeing to go to one of her KPOP concert movies

Offer to watch something you'd both really enjoy.  Like Grey's Anatomy or something with Reese Witherspoon in it.

And it's a brilliant premise.  The narrative that pets can see ghosts + our love of pets = compelling movie.

If you have ever owned or do own a GSD you know this to be true.

I would imagine that because the dog doesn't die he's going to be the hero and kill the ghosts.  nothing wrong with that.

it was covered earlier!  but it's also a necessary spoiler.  if the dog ended up dying nobody would want to see that shit.

Saw it yesterday.

It reminded me of Skinamarink in a lot of ways, being a similar high-concept film. You never see the humans' faces clearly. Since it's shot from the dog's POV, most of what you see is from about knee-height. I watched it with my 13-yo and we both really liked it. It didn't stick the landing 100%, IMO, but it's still a good movie. The filmmakers do a great job of conveying tension.

The Drafthouse had a good post-credits thing, about 5 minutes long, where the director talked about how they shot the movie with a dog who - and he could not emphasize this enough - did not realize he was in a movie. It took 3 years to film it because they spent so much time getting the reactions they wanted out of Indy, who is adorable.

Agree with all this. A really cool indie project with a few jumps scares. Would definitely recommend checking it out - but temper your expectations. Post-credit thing was great.

My daughter and I went to see it tonight.  We both enjoyed it.  It’s a fairly short movie at just over an hour and I thought that was the perfect length for it.  I’m always down for a good dog movie and my daughter likes horror movies so for once we both agreed.  I thought the dog was really good in it and I only went to see it because I knew he didn’t die in the movie

Spoiler

While that was technically correct, there was a dead dog in it

Loved it. Especially that theres more to it than just dog sees ghosts. Its more about Indys interpretation of what is happening to his beloved sick owner.

Once you realize that every aspect of the movie is only from the dogs perspective it brings a lot more to the table.
