Do we know the story on why Abii and Flemings signed with ND and Duke, respectively? Both are great players any program could use, so I assume the push was made. Not that any sane person would complain a bit about the No. 1 class we signed, mind you.

Not 100% sure we pursued Flemings. Losing Abii sucked and we had a definite need for a PF. Vic even said so for the signing of Crittendon. It feels like in-state recruits are kind of turned off by Vic and his play style? Our last few elite players we’ve signed are from MS, MO, CO, MN. And of the Fab 4 class of 2021, only Rori is really still around because she’s tenacious on defense. Im wondering if Texas HS WBB players are so coddled and gassed up, they are looking for less demanding programs like OU, ND, etc than what Vic is asking for.

Im wondering if Texas HS WBB players are so coddled and gassed up, they are looking for less demanding programs like OU, ND, etc than what Vic is asking for. That's also what I'm wondering. When I see Booker out there playing the full 94 feet, sharing the ball and clearly having fun doing it on a powerhouse team, I naturally assume that should be appealing to any elite prospect. But that clearly isn't true in some cases. Not to say all players in other top programs have an easy time showcasing their offensive talents — Geno in particular gets his stars to play physical team ball — but you're not going to come to Texas and be a mad gunner who lollygags between your shots. It's easy to see why Chavez looked for somewhere she could.

It's easy to see why Chavez looked for somewhere she could. Truly thought tying for the SEC regular season, making the SECT finals and the final four would boost recruiting. But Chavez and Abii weren’t on board. Seeing what Crump is doing as a freshman and now the #1 class - Vic is in a groove with HIS type of players who want to work hard, be coached hard and commit to being a TEAM. I love the culture he has instilled. The way the team responded to Crittendon’s commitment like 45 min before they had a game spoke volumes. And the video of Bjorn at practice
November 22Nov 22 For whatever reason, the top In-state recruits don't want to play for Vic, but Vic is landing the best out-of-state recruits so it doesn't matter. I don't pay close attention to the AAU Texas scene, but from what little I've watched, its a lot of offense and not much defense. If thats the type of players our state is producing, they won't get along with Vic and his style.

Bench and transfer Maybe took Vic a few cycles to realize the in state recruits aren’t going to be what he needs. Think he realized that once he got a player like Booker

Come tournament time, there's eventually going to be a hard-nosed opponent with offensive talent plus a commitment to defense. You can't win without both. Then again, if you see college as just a steppingstone to the WNBA, you aren't prioritizing team success anyway. Plenty of evidence of that on the men's side, especially here in the age of NIL.

November 26Nov 26 From the AAS: For Texas, this trip to Las Vegas isn’t just about testing itself against two fellow Final Four qualifiers from last season and a Duke team that was an Elite Eight squad. Each of the programs participating in the 2025 Players Era event — four women’s teams and 18 men’s teams — will earn $1 million dollars in NIL funds for fulfilling their event obligations, including two games. “I never thought it would be like this,” Texas point guard Rori Harmon said. “Us players are super grateful. Honestly, we want to play hard to win, obviously, but you throw a little bit of money in there, that’s fun too.” According to a report by CBS Sports, event organizers will pay teams through either a school’s collective, NIL deals with athletes or direct payments to schools that want to distribute that cash through revenue sharing. Schaefer has shared that his players will get all of the money and that the Longhorns do have off-court event obligations while in Las Vegas. Texas also has committed to participating in the 2026 and 2027 Players Era showcases. “(It) still is uncomfortable coming out of my mouth talking to recruits, talking to our players about money,” said the 64-year-old Schaefer, who’s in his sixth season at Texas and his 21st as a college head coach. “Five years and before, that was just so illegal and we would never approach that. At some point in the process, it becomes part of the process.”
