I do volunteer work for Beto's campaign (surprise!). I get called a "libtard" on a regular basis and get a lot of responses that are just "#MAGA!" and the like, but I also hear a lot of "who is Beto?"

O'Rourke's ground game is strong. I see many more yard signs and have been crap blasted with texts from actual people (not like the robo texts from "Senator Cotton" and "Newt").  A campaign worker for Beto even came by the house.
But, I have a feeling that as much charisma seeps from Beto, there are underlying policy positions that don't jive with his "Come on people now, smile on your brother" ad style. However, he definitely has the cult of personality. I think the outspoken far left sees him as a pawn for control of the Senate with a desire for a hard shift left and not as a uniting politician for the country. Lots of pictures of Beto with some folks (e.g. Second Amendment repeal types) circulating on social media.  So Beto the man may not make people nervous but a lot of his fringe support will get the vote out in opposition IMO.
Cruz has very little charisma but he appears to be as a consistent conservative constitutionalist.  I think Cruz still has a lot of support but not enough conviction to get a lot of yard signs and people putting his stuff on social media blast. And those supporters will still go vote for the status quo, even if it is somewhat crappy to them.  It's going to be an interesting election day.

Mayve he’s easing into the heavier stuff and was waiting for the right time. Earlier poster was voters have short memories.

This is good. Need to get the tv ads out.

i just keep thinking about the record setting Texas voter registration, it was like 1.6 million new voters, that was back on 10/1.

Does anyone know the numbers of the last few senate seat elections in Texas?  Not percentages but actual numbers. Would be interesting to see how a million or so more dem votes would have affected them.

cult, outspoken far left, pawn, hard left, fringe 🙄

the campaign worker was a volunteer btw - just a voter in Texas who really wants representation in the senate

The real victory is that Beto has enough money that Soros can shuffle his money elsewhere.

Win or lose, there’s an excellent chance Beto runs for President in 2020. He’s been working hard to up his profile nationally.

The ICE/immigration stance is what's holding him back. Everything else is trivial compared to his "abolish ICE" stance. Dems need to get a sensible position on this issue. It will also hold him back in any future presidential runs.

he's absolutely been doing that with the center left and mainstream America

good thing that's not an actual stance of his

Yeah, the topline of the fact that they're checking is different than "is it Beto's stance that ICE should be abolished".  Of course you know that unless you are stupid.  Here is the actual quote from July, from the link you provided.

Quote

"Asked about abolishing ICE Friday at a town hall in San Antonio, O'Rourke discussed the need to eliminate fear in immigrant communities under Trump and to find a better way to enforce immigration laws. ‘And if that involves doing away with this agency, giving that responsibility to somebody else, changing how this agency performs, I’m open to doing that,’ O’Rourke said.

"Yet he went on to flatly answer no when directly asked if he would abolish ICE, explaining that he does not currently know enough about how immigration law would be enforced without the agency.

"‘I understand the urgency of this,’ O’Rourke said in conclusion. ‘I just want to make sure that we’re constructive in how we talk about meeting this challenge and that I understand what abolishing ICE would mean in terms of enforcing our laws going forward.’"

You know, I'm being a little grouchy, so I apologize.

“Open to” is a far cry from being an actual stance.

He would do well to club Cruz over the head with his failure to help Texans out on the health care front.

That would actually be a winning strategy. Or a punch to the most punchable face in America. Save $38 million.

my favorite theory about the strategy (outside of massive GOTV effort which is clearly their stated goal) is that they are seeming maybe weak/unwilling to attack because they are timing the release of ads that are devastating but accurate

Beto doesn’t support it but Richard Linklater supposedly filmed 3 more attack ads in addition to the already released Ted Cruz tough ad.

The ad Cruz just ran during halftime of the baylol game was Busch league. Beto speaks the truth and Cruz can only accuse him of being "dangerous and divisive." What a goddamn disgrace that fucker is. Cruz must go in november.

When Cruz talks about divisive, he's referring to the unity of the right.  Dividing responsible traditional conservatives from the extreme herd of the morally bankrupt emotionally feeble doddering base.

Well socialists aren’t Americans so you can discount half the country to begin with. Founding fathers and shit.
Does being dumb hurt? I've always wondered.

Your sarcasm meter is jacked up.
I also shouldn't read the politics board when I'm drunk and high after a horns win.

Haha, Beto skated onstage at a rally last night. Wonder if Ted could even stand on a skateboard without snapping the deck in half

does anybody have details about this gotv campaign?

I thought Texas deserves a “full-time” Senator?

Beto has stated that if he is elected to the Senate that he will serve his full term.

Cruz would not make that commitment.

I thought the fiscal responsible small government types loved shutting down redundant branches and offices such as ICE? Oh wait, they were lying about that too.

It does, and Beto will be.  You're quoting a Republican.

In our local paper someone wrote in the editorial section that while Beto was out campaigning for the Senate, Ted Cruz was doing his elected duty of serving Texas in Washington the last 2 months. I wanted to say, "What?, I guess 'finally' he was doing something. For the first 4 years as a Senator he was running for President. And probably has a home in Iowa because that's where he spent most of his first 2 years."

Why don't you say it? Write a response.
