I do volunteer work for Beto's campaign (surprise!). I get called a "libtard" on a regular basis and get a lot of responses that are just "#MAGA!" and the like, but I also hear a lot of "who is Beto?"

Comparing Beto to Trump is unfair and off the mark. People like Beto because he’s positive. People dont like Trump, they like him as a character that acts on their behalf. They’re rooting for the villain like JR Ewing. Trumpkins know Trump is an asshole, but he’s their asshole.

Regarding your cynicism on what Beto will do, he’ll support judges and actions that seek to regulate money in politics. As long as individuals, entities and nations from around the world can influence elections and legislation, then our democracy will be on hold. In the meantime, Beto has proven to support dialogue with all. But he’ll be hard pressed to individually get real stuff passed.

He’ll also actually show up in the Senate to vote on things. And he’ll take calls and meetings on behalf of his constituents, and push specific local interests in the Senate.

Things that Ted has been utterly MIA on.

Folks think that Senators vote on SCOTUS judges and abortion all the time. That’s BS. 95% of what they do is mundane, but really important, for the people of their home state. Ted is mostly a no-show in that regard.

Cruz's excessive use of terrible hashtags upsets me greatly.

Lulz if you think that dishonesty is enough to make Cruz take down this ad.  This is the same guy who sends “official summons” to prospective voters threatening legal action if they don’t vote.

Yeah, I don't think it should be taken down either.  Make his lie go viral.

Agreed that the odds are still against Beto.

But Beto's gameplan is exactly what it needs to be in order to improve his chances.

And....there's NO WAY these guys can win....

Maybe BETO will beat CRUZ by 3 touchdowns?

Kneeling is an "extreme" position?

Beto should have proposed Ellen do her show from the OG Whataburger in Corpus.

Then the one in Waxahacie. I don't fucking care which one.  Beto is all in on the Whataburger theme.  He and Ellen should do a triple-meat challenge to see who can eat one the fastest.  Own that triple-meat label Ted put on you like an idiot.

You must have missed that that’s how Cruz will try to negatively define him.

Granted, Cruz is a full blown toadie for Trump now, but I still think he’s overestimating how Trumpkin Texas is.  We aren’t the Deep South or West Virginia.  Plenty of Republicans or ex-Republicans here were never warm to Trump to begin with, and are less so now. Plenty have educations and deal in the dreaded globalist cabal of big business, or live in cosmopolitan urban/suburban areas, or at least have things going pretty well for them, so they’re not viewing everything from an angry, bitter ball of hate perspective or counting the days until Trump brings back coal mines.

The national anthem or other Trumpkin populist nonsense isn’t the way to get those people back in the tent.  It just fires up the people who are Trumpkin anyway.  If he wants to give ex-Republicans disgusted by Trump and Cruz pause in actually defecting to vote for the Democrat, I think he’d be better off playing the old hits like socialism, abortion, gun grabbing, etc.

The fact that the Senate race is the top of the (electronic) ticket in the booth makes it pretty easy to either a) have Republicans skip over it because Ted sucks, which is why he underperforms Abbott by 15-20 points in the polling or b) make it easy for straight ticket Republicans or Abbott/Beto voters to hit the straight ticket button but then change the first race they see.   Also makes it harder to hide the race for low information or first time voters - it's the first fucking box!

Tell those gays if they want this gay they need to have good beer.  I'll leave the whiskey for the straight guys.

The weird list of match ups this year seem to make straight ticket voting less likely overall unless you're either a complete moron or not even trying to pay attention.  I imagine there could easily be a lot who vote for Abbot (because let's be honest: Lupe Valdez was never a real candidate) but against Cruz, Patrick (aka Goeb), and Paxton because they're horrible, incompetent, and corrupt respectively.  It gets more complicated further down ballot.

It's why they play the games, it's why the hold the actual elections.  Shit can happen.

huh? what? wait a minute... what is that? do i detect some optimism from ol' brisket? well, if Beto can bring back brisket, then i reckon he can beat Cruz.

Ted Cruz is the residue left over after emptying a colostomy bag.

Interesting line from that article:

Four, polls suggest around one-third of likely voters still know very little about O'Rourke

Odd, because lately I have been wondering what we know about Cruz?  Once you get past the fact that he is the red candidate, what can he point to that he has done for Texas, what bills can he be proud of that he sponsored or supported.  Pretty much what I know about the guy is he actively blocks legislation and ran for POTUS.

To me he isn't running on anything, he is just running on being Red...at what point do people realize how hollow that is?   I don't know a lot about Beto, but he is out there talking about himself, his ideals and ideas.   On the other hand we have Cruz over here doing what?  Making a huge deal about the kneeling thing?  So I sure as hell know more about Beto and what he intends to do about trying to help this country, this state than I do about Cruz after nearly 6 years in office.

Again, go through the ballot. Sometimes the R candidate's only opponent is an independent or Green Party candidate or such. Take the time, and get the satisfaction of voting against every R you can.

I think Ellen will be a huge plus for Beto. There are a lot of housewives in the Texas burbs whose only view into the world outside of Fox and Facebook is shows like Ellen, the Oprah crowd if you will. They will like what they see, and a decent portion of them might be scandalous and actually vote for him...and not tell their husband.

And some of them might do it as their little way to get back at a hubby being an asshole

Something that is as easily refutable as Cruz's Harvey vote attack shows just how fucking desperate he's getting.

That is a good article.  Thanks for posting.

Yes, Cruz was out there, like many politicians, mucking houses and meeting with local Galveston area officials. His name was on the Cruz-Cornyn-Rubio tax relief bill, which added tax deductions for hurricane-related expenses. But when it came to the essential, and politically risky, responsibilty of passing a robust multi-billion dollar recovery bill, the credit belongs to Cruz’s Republican Senate colleague, John Cornyn.

Cruz was mostly AWOL in the fight for Harvey recovery dollars. Cornyn, on the other hand, put himself on the front lines to force a bill through the Senate.

Texas’ senior senator caught plenty of flack in the process.

In the same exact boat and this is the part of the voting population that I suspect is way bigger than currently accounted for. Decent people(who lean left and right) who realize that the Trump administration will be the biggest shit stain of our lifetime.

For the first time, I just went and scrolled through Cruz’s twitter and then Beto’s. The difference in tone is striking. The negativity coming from Ted is honestly overwhelming.

When you're scared, you go negative.

Pro-tip:

Voting straight democrat means that you will miss several opportunities to vote AGAINST GOP candidates. If that’s your goal, you need to go line by line to vote Green or Lib where there are no Dems running.

Tim Lee and Ted have a weird relationship. Kinda reminds me of the "ya jackass" guy and Shooter Mcgavin relationship.
