Arch had a bad game on the road in a hostile environment, it happens hopefully he'll get better. Hell his uncle shit the bed plenty of times and he's a HoF QB

  • Our defense played their asses off. Giving up 14 points and two yards a play despite zero help from the offense is a day’s work.

Honestly are we that irate about this game? True road game against an elite defense and only lost by a touchdown and held them to 14? I'd be more pissed if we were in mid-season and Arch is still maki

Fuck that shit. They ran for 2.3 yards a carry. They got 240 yards total offense. They couldn’t close out the game when they needed to.

Right. Then we decided to eliminate the pass as an option for Arch. Where was the play action? Roll out? Dump off near the LOS? He’s so good at the run-pass option and we only saw it once

The “would be pick” was on a play that he had to reverse drop, get his feet switched and try to squeeze a throw in with perfect timing. That play call is the definition of the sark problem.

Run some RPO (with qb run options), attack the seams and the deep sidelines. Utilize the backs and tight ends in the screen game. Play to the strengths of the players on the field.

He displayed nothing resembling a strength today. Stop pretending otherwise.

He was plenty effective in hurry up, quick read situations. We sat him in the pocket and hoped he would just learn to be accurate
Arch is the quarterback, our coach should know what he can and cannot do. But Sark doesn’t adjust his offense to his players. It’s been the problem in every game against equal talent. Every single time.

We do tend to have unrealistic expectations as fans

Would love to know how often a team out rushes their opponent by over 2:1 on almost equal carries and loses the game. That has to be really rare I'd assume.

Dumb take is a dumb take.  There was nothing open. The one real throw down field should have been picked.  Our WRs arent not the same we had in the past plain and simple.

Wingo was open. Moore was open. Baxter was open. There were plenty of plays to be made. He either didn't see them or couldn't get the ball near them.

There is no schematic cure for not being able to throw to a wide open crossing route or constantly throwing short passes behind or at the feet of receivers. There were plays to be made based upon what was called. Arch didn't come close to making them.

Correct, but also what was called (in the aggregate) was hyper conservative dogshit and played against Arch’s supposed strengths.

I hope whoever designed that ridiculous 15 minute opening film clip about how great Manning is gets their ass whipped on a regular basis.

Oline is elite? Did they ever get to the second level and break a run open? Looked like the exact same Oline we always have. Good pass blocking, average as he'll run blocking.

I'll take 4.5 ypc any day of the week against one of the top 1-2 defenses we'll play all year.

The turf was great in coverage

True, quite a baptism. He will be better. He was inconsistent all day, starting with the first dirt ball. Had a couple good throws. I’m concerned that our WRs may be very average

Where did I say otherwise? It’s almost like I’m saying we should run plays that our quarterback can make not the ones he can’t.

Also, Guilbeau easily worst starter on the team

He broke up a TD and almost came back on that blown coverage. I'll say the lineman with the three false starts gets that prize.

That was, uh, wow. Imagine being told Texas would hold Ohio State to 200 yards and 14 points, and get completely dog-walked.

It's never quite as good or as bad as it seems and it's a long season. We have a month to clean whatever that was up so we can bring a competitive offense into league play. The defense appears to be more or less as advertised and should keep us in games. It will obviously be overshadowed by the passing game struggles but the run game and offensive line looked pretty good in the context, though I want to rewatch. All is not lost.

Stunning incompetence in the passing game and again with red zone play calls though. Baffling offensive coaching fail by Sark. A lot of what we saw was correctable, but there is so much to clean up that it makes me doubt it can be done by October. I'm hopeful the defense (appears as advertised) 9-3 is feeling more like the ceiling than the floor today, but maybe that ends up an overreaction.

lol at Livingstone not only scoring but getting the only TD, and taking the CB for an absolute ride in the process. CTJ loved that I'm sure.

and we saw the same red zone and goal line garbage we are used to seeing.

Hell, we were also very close to being the only #1 ever to be shut out.

Stfu. I’m the last one to shit on some revisionist history shit… d gave you every opportunity to win it. Idgaf what Sark calls… make it fuckin work and get us in the end zone. I cannot believe we lost that game

I'd be more pissed if we were in mid-season and Arch is still making the same mistakes and receivers are still dropping balls against lesser and more pedestrian defenses. This is the type of game you just forget about and hope they get better as the season progresses. And somehow the red zone play calling just has to improve.

He made two fantastic throws to the deep sideline, he had multiple good runs when he evaded the pocket. Literally the things we already knew he was good at. But we only called those things a handful of times

Yes.  Look I love the Horns and Arch seems like a super kid but he was the reason we lost.  It’s ok and he’ll get better.

Arch couldn’t even recognize the easy RPO read on the first 4 down fail. What are we even doing here?

Don't be too sure about that. Also, no one has to pay to be pissed on in Ohio. It comes free with the travel, don't be silly.

I was based in Cleveland when I started at Continental. It's true.

We were told we’d have the full Sark offense available. If we can only hit the deep ball sometimes we’re fucked either way.

That throw to Endries was magic. Maybe Endries should be our feature receiver, since he is actually big fast and talented. Where were the TE plays the rest of the game?

Separation was an issue, but plenty of WRs were open today and Arch either didn’t see them or threw the ball in the dirt. Very correctable (hopefully).

I'm sure your family is devastated I just hope you'll be able to recover somehow

Shit like today happens when you’re caught looking ahead to SJSU.

Sark gets too obsessed with trying to win a psychological battle that has no tangible bearing on the actual game. Ramming it in from close with an interior OL not built for it, not taking 3 points, etc. I have a feeling he’ll age out of this mindset at some point soon

I'm truly sorry you had to endure that. I went there in 2005 and....I can't imagine it's changed much from people standards.

To who?  I'll give you Michigan but I don't see any others

Probably. But is it more likely that we win by doing things we know the Qb can’t do, or trying the things we know he can do?

QB sneak inside the 1 was just dumb.   No pre-snap movement or window dressing was odd.   Arch was just horrible.  Maybe he needs less time filming commercials and more time practicing football plays.

Which plays are those? Should we try rolling him out and having him throw to wide open crosser with an option to run? Oh, he missed that multiple times? Should we aim to take shots down the field? Oh, he missed badly on those. Maybe we have him throw screens and swing passes? Oh, he threw those behind or at the feet of the receivers. I struggle how anyone could watch whatever the fuck just happened and think there was some play call that would magically work. Arch just needs to play better. A lot better. He had a good pocket. He had a decent run game. He had targets that were open. He just fucking sucked today.

I swear people think Sark is younger than he really is...

No, I agree with this. The few times one of them did manage to get open, the play didn't happen... I'm not saying Sark was perfect or even good today, but you can't use Sark to excuse what happened on the field. I'm sure Arch will settle in and do better,  but he is going to have to do it without an Xavier or Golden.  We don't have that player this year.  Wingo will be fine, but he will never have the separation those two were able to get

I think the fourth and two was a rpo and arch chose the rb.  Which was a mistake as he didn't get two yards

The one that resulted in a touchdown.

Haven't posted in over a year, but the wife is already threatening a divorce over my venting. Here in Europe and I had to work, so I've only been able to see the boxscore.

WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED!? 7 months and our supposedly offensive genius HC and his 5 star qb that's been on campus for two years manage a single touchdown against a team breaking in a new DC?

FML.  Sark peaked in September of 2023. We've done jack shit against anybody with a pulse since then.

He will never play in a tougher environment. I’m still disappointed we couldn’t be aggressive to end the first half

Focus on this point for a minute. How many times have we seen mediocre teams play Texas over the last several years where they methodically throw short passes and work their way down the field against our defense: short curls, slants, screens, outs, etc.

Those teams don’t have 4-5 star receivers. They have a scheme to sit in the open areas of zone coverage, or run specific routes that are geared towards beating man, like the slant.

The lack of effective scheme and game planning is why the offense was bad, and then with Arch throwing poorly and receivers not getting separation on the wrong routes, the offense was putrid.
