When it's Wisner and Baxter getting all the carries, supplemented by Arch, our running game should be strong to quite strong. I think there's even an argument to be made that we should be a run-first offense. It is vs San Jose State. The gave up 263 and 4.7 to Central Michigan. They wore them down late in the game to make it look better. You would like the run game to be dominant vs cupcakes

I am of the opinion that Sark wanted to get Arch on track and stuck with tons of downfield passing. we have our starting RB on the sideline and RB 2 and 3 both a year or so out from major injuries. They’ll improve as the season goes on.
September 6Sep 6 Unfortunately Baxter doesn’t look like he did last year. Clark didn’t do much Gibson Is the only one that looked like he had some burst and only played garbage time i donno wtf sark/Flood are doing but it ain’t working.

Good RBs do that all the time, and we haven't seen anything like that. Three yard runs stop at three yards. Five yard runs stop at five. That’s because they are getting hit 2 yards behind the LOs lol
September 6Sep 6 1 minute ago, Sgt Hulk said: That’s because they are getting hit 2 yards behind the LOs lol If we were getting five yards on plays where our RBs were getting hit two yards in the backfield, that would be pretty amazing.

RB3 had 3.0 ypc, dragging down the average to just under 5.0. The running game is not the liability you keep saying it is. Edited September 6Sep 6 by TexArcher

If it’s one thing out of sync, it could be the player learning. When everyone seems to be out of sync, it falls on the coaches. I’m not saying it can’t be fixed, but I wouldn’t say our guys have been locked in so far this season.

September 6Sep 6 I had a bad feeling about Wingo this offseason from the practice reports talking about getting him the ball on reverses. If you can read between the lines at all the reports were saying "we're gonna have to call reverses to get the ball in this guys hand. He's presumably being paid to be a #1 WR, not a gadget player. Imagine offseason stories about Worthy "working on his reverses". He doesn't need to "work on" reverses you just run the damn ball when they call the play.

They did a good job of pass protection in both games, with a couple of clear bad plays. On rushing, we're getting about 5 ypc between this game on OSU. That's respectable given the opponents and injuries. I lean a lot more toward vanilla ass rushing plan than on the OL. Yes, there's room for improvement, particularly penalties, but that and the shit, no misdirection run game is a huge part as well. Edited September 6Sep 6 by BurntEyes
September 6Sep 6 Cole Hutson and Brandon Baker suck and DJ Campbell gets flagged for too many holding calls.
September 6Sep 6 Our offense line is one massive concern that would make this team drastically more potent, if it was fixable

September 6Sep 6 If Wingo and Simmons could get their head out of their ass this team could still have potential. Based off the post game presser, Sark sounds ready to chew out some guys on Monday in the meetings.

I certainly have a lot of concerns too. Simmons needs to be benched against the cupcakes until he can prove he can play without committing stupid penalties. And, penalties 😬, roughing the punter will cost Texas a game. The OL can't run block worth a shit. Clark just didn't show any talent, and even coming back from the injury he should look better than Kyle F'ing Porter. Gibson looks like the most talented back, but can't hold on to the ball. Although I don't know why Sark didn't give Shipley a chance to make a long FG. I agree running a 12 may be best, most talent at TE, even if Moore doesn't miss any games. But Texas isn't running the ball against blowu unless the OL improves significantly. And finally, that Livingstone guy needs to be benched. Can't even outrun a bunch of slow 4.8 DB's from the MWC.

We seem to want to do all this NFL like under center run game stuff with Arch and I just don’t know how much longer we can keep it up. Arch looks most comfortable when things are spread out and he is able to freelance a bit. This OL also seems more comfortable in pass pro. But with our receiver situation I’m not sure how effective that would be against SEC opponents. As Rod Babers says, football is a constant battle between what you want to be and what you need to be in order to survive. We have 3 more weeks to figure out what we need to be. Homer was going off on the Sark offense. He is saying it is unnecessarily complicated. Lot of offenses do really simple stuff in college at a high level. Everything is progression reads and the WRs are doing their own reads. We went from 3-5 screens a drive to 3-5 a game. He was using example like if the CBs are off just run simple hitches to get 4-6 easy yards. Edited September 7Sep 7 by Codaxx
September 7Sep 7 Most of our runs go right into the line for 1-2 yards. We had some success running outside with Wisner last week. But Sark insists on getting us into 3rd and longs.

Apparently CMU brought in a bunch of old Army coaches on offense. Then in the second half CMU drives went: -3 and out -3 and out -turnover on downs -FG -3 and out That’s not to excuse our run blocking but CMU was coming out in 13 and 14 personnel against SJSU in the opener and it took a half to make an adjustment. CMU also threw for 13 passes the entire game. Not really comparing apples to apples.
