September 3Sep 3 Popular Post I remember watching this match back in '88 and being outraged at the result. It was a travesty. Jones completely dominated the fight and then was robbed of the gold by three corrupt/incompetent judges. It's good that he now has the medal. I was unaware that "winning" the bout brought such misfortune to the South Korean boxer. Now that he's done the right thing (and I wonder why he didn't do it years ago), maybe he can get out from under all that. https://sports.yahoo.com/boxing/article/roy-jones-jr-brought-to-tears-after-park-si-hun-gifts-gold-medal-decades-after-1988-olympic-controversy-201110152.html
September 4Sep 4 How ironic is that judge's comment? Quote Larbi later admitted that Jones had won the fight easily, but he awarded it to Park to spare the home country embarrassment, expecting his four fellow judges to give Jones the win. By attempting to spare the home country shame, he brought shame to the fighter and his country.
September 5Sep 5 the didn't want to shame the country and thought the others would score it a Jones win anyway thing is BS. I've got it at 99% those 3 judges were paid off.

Olympic committee wasnt going to do anything They will get to that right after they fix the all time fucking for the US Men's Basketball team in Munich. If only Bobby Knight had been the coach, World War III might have started, but our Head Coach wouldn't have just sat there and taken the shit.
October 12Oct 12 Great move of course, but did Jones give him the silver? I was only 11 and don't remember if there were any controversial decisions before the final match or if Park earned the silver legitimately.

I couldn't recall, but did about 5 seconds of Googling, and apparently there was controversy in one of his bouts prior to the gold medal fight. From the always-reliable Wikipedia: In Park's quarterfinal bout against Vincenzo Nardiello of Italy, Nardiello easily won the first two rounds, but because Park won the third round by a large margin, he was given the fight. Nardiello then had to be dragged out of the ring, shouting at the judges. Edited October 12Oct 12 by Carl Spackler
