September 17Sep 17 I got to choose one of the songs for my father's funeral. It was a real tear jerker sitting next to my teen and younger sons.
September 17Sep 17 I submit: And, speaking of shithead Ryan Adams, I always found this song incredibly sad and poignant:
September 17Sep 17 I wonder if that guy was born a shithead or if it was learned behavior? He sure can write a song.

We connect, we love each other, we relish the moments we have together. But those moments also come--necessarily--in the back half of our lives. As we can see our mortality from here. If We Were Vampires fucking shreds me. Just gutted. It's an amazing song, and I love it and hate it. Here's one I haven't seen posted: Love. Loss. Time, and that loss never goes away. Lydie lit a cigarette today Ancient fumbling fingers in her way From a forty year old coffee cup she sipped a bit of gin Closed her eyes and let the memories in I come from "cigarette and forty year old coffee cup" people. I can see, smell, and taste this song, and the grief.
September 17Sep 17 The first time I saw Slaid he was doing a solo gig at the Waterloo Ice House on 38th & Medical Parkway. He was new to town having come from Maine. He was unspectacular, very raw, but there was something there. Maybe a half dozen years later "Broke Down" came out and everyone exclaimed in unison "holy shit". One of the best records ever to come out of Austin.
September 17Sep 17 It took me years, to get those souvenirs, and I don't know how they slipped away from me ... (song starts around 1:25. But it's nice hearing him tell his story)

September 19Sep 19 Heh. A friend of mine used to room with Paula Cole at Berklee. She was also a singer-songwriter. She about lost her mind when Paula hit it big and she didn't. (Never did.)

That needs to be recorded. These don't fit my perceived demographic here or the style of music, but I love JP Saxe's stuff. And I'm sure most everyone has a story that can relate to these songs. This one reminds me of my dad's journey in my life. Still doesn't understand how to repair. The repeated line, "You can talk to God about that" is a twisted line for me. 1. It's basically the way the he says he has repented, which isn't enough to complete human to human repair 2. November 24Nov 24 Most of y'all have never heard of them, but there are couple of singer/songwriter types in my world that I absolutely love and can write some fucking great songs. Vic Chesnutt and Jerry Joseph are in the Widespread Panic/Drive by-Truckers universe...Panic covers a bunch of both of their songs. Anyway, they both write some sad stuff and they're awesome in their own way. Sadly Vic, true to some of his lyrics, took his own life Christmas day 2009

December 13Dec 13 I suspect op means “sad song you like” . Best sad song like the top saddest song for me? I’ll go with many of those mid 70s depressing numbers noted above and add Wildfire by Michael Martin Murphy , reminds me of riding around in the back of my parents Pontiac Houston mid to late 1970s- doubly depressing .

December 14Dec 14 I'm guessing a couple of weeks before, I visited my friend in Hoboken and she took me to all her haunts in NYC while rumors were swirling about the demolition of 5 Points which we went and visited. Took pics of all the street art. Slid into a corner bar at the end of the day and was treated to shots of whiskey and Irish creme by the bartender on the house. Two weeks later it was gone.

The reaction from JB upon hearing his demo is so awesome. It seems like he completely forgot he originally sang it the way Nico does on her version.
