September 9Sep 9 https://www.bbc.com/news/live/c741n80ndlxt After facing criticism for corruption and nepotism, the gov't ordered all social media be shut down. Protesters came out. Cops shot and killed a bunch of protestors. Masses rose up and said fuck that. They've torched the Parliament building, PM has resigned. Apparently, they don't really have a government at all right now.
September 9Sep 9 Watch India. They have been a stabilizing and destabiling force in Nepal. Also, they rarely have a government. Shit, they have 4 kings.
September 9Sep 9 obligatory. Hate to see it happening like this. We took the whole fam last summer and really enjoyed....every aspect of it. Food, people, places. Hopefully they can overcome, but given it's one of the poorest countries, surely someone else will have to fund it.

September 9Sep 9 god damnit, all i have are these damn nepalese coins and now they're going to be worthless aren't they?
September 9Sep 9 The school I teach at has a growing Nepalese population. I met several of the moms at open house this year and they were all smoke shows. I just feel like the board needs to know about my new Nepalese fetish and this seems like the best thread to mention it.

Indian-ish, with a Chinese-ish element/twist. It's one of my son's favorite ethnic fare, there used to be a really good place on N. Lamar, but it closed. We've eaten at Nepalese place in Durango and one in Flagstaff (notice how Nepalese restaurants end up in mountain towns?) that were both fantastic. Momo are next-level good:

Their Indian food is also really damn good.

I'd say 3/4 have some play on "Everest" in their name. Damn, now I want some momos...

I've eaten at the Everest in Irving multiple times -- it's one of my go-to spots when I have meetings/work adjacent to DFW. HIGHLY recommend.
September 9Sep 9 Recently new Nepali place opened in Frisco - "Base Camp". Been there a few times. Not too shabby.
September 9Sep 9 I worked with a Nepalese girl who's dad was a general due to some kind of connection with the king. Probably the most useless engineer I've known. Not one of the lookers from this thread either.
September 10Sep 10 If I ever open a Nepalese restaurant, it's going to have an ice cream dessert called Frozen Trailside Corpse.

September 10Sep 10 Popular Post I’m going to open a Nepalese-Mexican fusion restaurant called Como Se Lama.

Dammit, now I want some momos too. Even the yak ones aren't bad.

I would say, as my son would say, it’s greater than a non-zero chance.

Was with us maybe two years. She should probably just do voice over work because her voice was like silk and she had that Nepalese-British accent. She could tell you to take out the trash and you would find it to be lovely. She was gorgeous. And she might do well here but over there they don’t seem to age well. I guess it would be stressful living over there your whole life.

September 10Sep 10 Time to call in the Gurkhas Heard this story on a podcast a while back - let's assume it's true for the sake of how bad ass Gurkhas are. British army was spinning up a new parachute regiment and wanted to include the Gurks. They were asked how many wanted to jump out of airplanes! Five raised their hands. Officer was puzzled, as he'd heard the tales of how fearless these guys are. He talks to their commanding officer. He then understands that the Gurks didn't understand the concept of a "parachute", and these five tough SOB's took the literal meaning of jumping out of an airplane! When explained, of course 100% of them volunteered. Wild shit.

OK, clarified it via the googles - they understood parachutes, they weren't afraid of jumping, they took the officer literally, and thought he meant jumping without parachutes - and five dudes still raised their hands. Maybe not true. Don't care. Still a cool story.
