September 9Sep 9 Attending a visitation in Denton for a close friend of my in-laws who died last week on Friday night. Wife and one of our good friends (daughter of another of the deceased's closest circle of friends) are planning on eating somewhere in Denton afterward (it ends at 6 on Friday). Wife and I ate at a place in the Square several years ago on our way to Winstar for a Seinfeld show. The Square is good. So are good places off the Square.

September 9Sep 9 Probably a little casual, but when my son was at UNT, he loved it when I would host him and his friends at Hoochies Oyster House. Fun place, especially when the trains went by! I thought Tim Love opened up a place near the square, to the east, but don't know if that survived or whether you would be generally opposed to patronizing him

For now we have a reservation at 940 or 904 (think this is where we ate a few years ago). Gonna try and sneak into Osteria on a cancellation or something. We’ve heard Queenie’s is good.
September 10Sep 10 Never been to 940, but the menu and reviews look promising. Sorry about the circumstances.

Denton doesn't have a lot going for it from what I recall, but I remember being completely underwhelmed and annoyed with 940.

I didn't know the guy very well but he was a good dude by all accounts. On 9/12/2025 at 12:38 AM, Vegas64 said: 940 sucks. We were on Osteria's cancellation list but didn't get a call. We were going to drop by there and just see if we could get worked in but the dude telling this story that went on forever pushed us up to the brink. I didn't want to bail on 940 at that point. I would've felt bad. However, after going there, I shouldn't have been worried. The food was fine but the place is odd. There are touches that make it look Iike it's trying to be upscale and then things that just don't fit that aesthetic like at all. Again, the food was fine. I've had much worse. But I would've liked to go somewhere "nicer." We walked around the square after and went upstairs at LSA Burger (???). It had an upstairs outdoor bar/seating area with a three-piece band playing country tunes. We had a beer, listened to the band for a bit and went home.
