Just saw a video where someone referred to Charlie Kirk as Gen Z Conservatives "Internet big brother" and thought that made sense. I knew of him and watched some content before and didn't care as a mid 30s guy, but for a generation who spends more hours on youtube and listening to podcasts this has to hitting that age group a little harder

I keep reading rumors that the bullets contained "trans ideology."

Can someone tell me what that even is?

The bullet was born an arrow and decided to have surgery

What exactly is this "trans ideology" threat, and why should I be afraid of it?

Trans ideology is the radical notion that trans people should be allowed to exist.

You should be afraid of it, because then you can be used by people who desire power to gain or maintain that power, so that you don't notice what else they're doing.

Good. Maybe they'll turn their lives around.

43 minutes ago, TexArcher said:

Right, that's what it means to trans people.

But what does it mean to those Republicans who keep bandying it about as if it's part of the common parlance?  I don't think any of them can answer this question, which does not stop them from being 100% sure that it's bad and must be stopped.

This is a gigantic problem, that this heavily armed mob can be so easily told what to do and whom to target.  It's not much of a leap to the black ideology, the atheist ideology, the foreigner ideology, the everybody but them ideology.

It's one of the tricks horror writers (especially HP Lovecraft) use to make scary stories scary; the fewer details you give, the more people allow their imagination to fill in the blanks with whatever scares themselves the most.

The lack of specification is a feature, not a bug.

My issue with the Guardian article is that it’s contradicted by the family’s comments that the shooter was not at all “political” until after he came back from college.

The time he dropped out or the time He killed Charlie Kirk?

a maga type family would never admit he was political prior and would obviously blame him going off to college.

Charlie Kirk ran a massive propaganda machine that went after 18-24 year olds. TPUSA has 850 campus organizations across the nation. These people can run a massive email, text and multi media campaign at the drop of a hat. Kirk was a propagandist.

This is complete bullshit and you should be ashamed to post something so blatantly false(propaganda).  You can vehemently disagree with everything Kirk said but he didn’t misinform, mislead or attempt to confuse people.  In fact he literally let anyone with a counterpoint speak and question him.

Christ almighty.

"Propaganda: information, ideas, opinions, or images, often only giving one part of an argument, that are broadcast, published, or in some other way spread with the intention of influencing people's opinions" - the dictionary

Propaganda has a much broader definition than just "misinformation"

Edit to add Turning Point wasn't some grassroots that grew from word of mouth it was heavily funded

They absolutely can be. I disagree that the world is flat. It is misinformation to claim the world is flat. An opinion can be objectively wrong.

Of course.  Kirk was wrong about plenty, in my opinion.  He had the right to express that opinion.  It appears he got murdered because of his opinion.  Which should terrify the fuck out if everyone

Does chemical castration have a meaning?  Has a minor ever been chemically castrated under the guise of trans treatment?

One neighbor who lives across the street from the Robinsons, declined to be named. He said he's "blind to the world", and only learned about Robinson's arrest when he saw reporters and law enforcement in the street this morning. He was agnostic about the massive media presence on his street. "Mother nature is mother nature, whatever she calls to do, let's do it," he said. And was similarly accepting when asked about Robinson, the subject of a massive 48-hour search, living just across the street. "If it's close to home, if it's 50 miles from me, it's the same damn thing," he said. "Shit happens and that's what it is."

Was it this guy?

I mean ok I guess, but it's not exactly like he was the first, 100th, 1000th or even 10,000th person of prominence in history who was murdered for his opinion.

It's not right and we should strive for something better but I dunno if the janitor working the night shift at Kips Big Boy should be terrified about being killed over his opinions.

The neighbor, who did not want to be identified by his name or his pseudonym, did not want to respond any further.
When pressed, his only comment was:

“I can’t be worried about that shit.” And “Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes the bear ears you.”
Finally, he parted with these words: “Obviously, you’re not a golfer.”

It is true that a lot of the above is just opinion.  Horrible opinion, but opinion nonetheless.

Still, he's barfed out a considerable amount of propaganda, and that bit about trans and machines is weird, very weird, and confusing and also a lie.

The word of the day is nuance, my friend.  Opinions have consequences, particularly if they cause or advocate harm to others.
