Maybe I'm an old.  When I grew up we said Sticks and Stones May Break Your Bones but Words Will Never Hurt You.

What generation are you from?

Can you explain to me, in your terms, what the 1st Amendment says?

What are you blabbering about?
It is well known words can hurt.
If I was Black and someone said to me you were better off in the 40’s.
I would hate that guy cause the 40’s were Jim Crow laws, active KKK and at least in Texas many places were known as sunset cities. Basically don’t be black here after dark.

Quit listening to Fox News (who lost 850 million in a lawsuit because proved they lie).

I can't tell if that's John Lennon or white Jesus.

I get talking the dead up (especially ones who shrouds themselves in thick Jesus armor) and remembering and exaggerating the best parts about them.

I get being very upset that many people are being extremely harsh and critical of someone who was just murdered and leaves behind a young family.

But how do they expect people to NOT respond negatively to complete horseshit like that?

I’ll add another that most people wouldn’t know.  Women couldn’t even solely own property ot a business in Texas until 1967.  Yes, 1967.

For the record, here I'm not posting for the "content" of his argument so much as the "rhetorical style" in the face of allegations that he was a good and good faith debater that just expressed opinions many see as outrageous and despicable.  And specifically that he didn't spout propaganda, lies, or attempt to confuse and mislead.

In the Newsom dialog, where I think he was on his best behavior, he was mostly a good and good faith "debater."  But his mask slipped a few times.

In his more "monologic" rants, the mask falls off.

He was a fucking coward racist frat boy. The kind that are a dime a dozen at numerous universities in Texas. The type to say shock shit to get people riled up as part of Young Republicans. Parading around with the confidence of a white kid that's spent his whole life fucking around but never had to find out. They are all pros at putting the "professional" mask back on. They're taught that shit at home, they have office jobs and know that those topics stay at the dinner table.

There was nothing special about him, he just said the same shit all Young Republicans say, he just hit the podcast booth first. His problem was that he was too sheltered, like most of the frat boys are. Then they get around real life weirdo alt-right proud boy motherfuckers that aren't socialized in the suburban lifestyle, the kind that Nick Fuentes has a chokehold on, and he was nowhere near ready for that Ilk. He liked flirting with them, but he was NOT built like that.

1 Giving women the right to vote? liberals.
2 Ending slavery. Liberals.
3 Civil rights. Liberals.
Call me a (newly converted Democrat who voted for Reagan and both Bushes) liberal.

Oh lord.  Words can be hurtful, they cant hirt you.

Would murder be an appropriate response to your example?

That was for 9/11. At least that's what I told myself today while seeing dozens of flags at half mast while driving through Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Flags in Texas are half mast through Sunday for Charlie Kirk as per direction from Turnip and then Hot Wheels. Not 9/11.

I will say this makes sense.

I was at a couple of MLK speeches where he called women unable to think for themselves.
Or JFK saying maybe civil rights are not good.
I heard about a speech from Jesus that said maybe stoning gays might be a good idea.

Well I look at Walmart El Paso, Buffalo NY grocery, and Jewish synagogue murders I would say no.
Keep avoiding the elephant in the room. Right wing is 100 times more violent than anyone else. Of course now we have maga vs groyper so can’t wait to see that civil war.

Maybe that's why they like the second amendment, it allows them to stay the most violent political party in the US.

Dude just spoke facts that yall didn’t agree with is all /incredulity

Although I have no doubt many of these are true under some context, a Google search seems to reveal the first two as false.

-          Gay people should be stoned to death – Steven King already had to walk back this claim and publicly, “I apologize for saying Charlie Kirk advocated stoning gays. What he actually demonstrated was how some people cherry-pick Biblical passages,” the 77-year-old author wrote on the social media platform X.”

-          Most people are scared when they see a black pilot – Seems false. His statement: “If I see a Black pilot, I'm gonna be like, "Boy, I hope he's qualified.", in relation to DEI.

My point being, if we're going call him out for spreading misinformation, maybe we shouldn't do it with misinformation.

It's natural for us to seek information that supports our beliefs and spread it without fact checking, we all do it regularly. However, I think we have a civic duty to not be lazy or justify doing it simply because someone else does.

Yeah I have so many ‘favorites’ to chose from…

“Black women do not have the brain processing power to otherwise be taken really seriously. You had to go steal a white person’s slot to go be taken somewhat seriously.”

Or maybe

“Gun control, like vaccines and masks, is focused on making people feel ‘safe’ by taking freedoms away from others.”

Or how he doesn’t believe in retirement, or his hypothetical 10yo daughter would carry the rapists baby, or he doesn’t trust black pilots, or comparing trans folks to wearing blackface, maybe how democrats women want to die alone.

Oh for sure.  If I was debating someone serious.  I don’t see many of those in MAGA land.  They gaslight 24/7.  In those instances you gotta fight fire with fire.  Kirk was trash.  He got what he asked for.  Million quotes on some people gotta die for blah blah…at least he went down doing what he loved.  He’s lucky in that sense.  Also I can guarantee you it was fairly painless.

Did the government stop Charlie from speaking today? No? Then his 1st amendment rights weren't violated.

When I grew up, if you insulted people, demeaned them, spewed hate and insults, you got your ass kicked.

Let's ask Charlie what he thinks. Oh, sorry...

Anyway, a day without Charlie spewing hate and division is good day. To bad it took a bullet to shut his ass up.

I think you're misunderstanding the original post. No one said violence is the appropriate response. But it is a predictable and understandable one. "Thems fighting words" is a phrase for reason. And being instigated by violence by them can even lessen criminal liability.

As Chris Rock says: "I'm not saying he should have done it, but I understand"

You didn't have the internet when you were young, or probably for a good chunk of your life.  Words have helped galvanize groups that are calling for bloodshed because of political beliefs.  It was words that led to January 6th.  I believe in free speech and don't think anybody should die for it, but they were building gallows in front of the US Capitol during their insurrection, so please spare the phony pretense and pearl clutching.  Or just sticks and stones your way to a freedom march sometime, and hope like hell some car doesn't drive into it.  Just by the very argument of gun control means the left isn't looking towards violence, but the right is pretty radicalized against both anything moderate or limits their gun access. Any guesses on what party was also against limiting the spread of disinformation on the internet and social platforms?  Any clues as to why, especially since it's just words?  Why does turnip regularly tweet violent rhetoric?
