Yeah, that's on the Guardian for running with someone claiming to be an old high school friend who calls people "leftists" without doing additional sourcing. Pretty irresponsible of them actually.

I find it amusing that a lot of our Daily Texan denizens still refuse to comment on the Fox & Friends segment I posted yesterday. The leader of the free world went on the "news" and basically said:

1. It is cool for you to be violent if you are on our side and you have concerns.

2. I don't give a shit about more than half of this country.

Brisket has been right all along. You kept telling all of us that we were wrong and hysterical, and the worst of you said a lot of really horrible things. Are you going to own this? Your hatred has brought this country to this point.

its painfully obvious we live in a very unequal society.

There are only two options

- the right doesn't believe violent rhetoric causes violent acts

- or they are too stupid to connect the two

neither is good for any of us wanting equality and common sense.

Knew of Guardian's "bent."  Did not realize they were counterfactual.  Losing some respect there.

Also, in case anyone wasn't aware, although it is the "Manchester Guardian," most of their US reporting comes from US reporters, so it doesn't always or even usually offer the "foreign" perspective that some non-US sources offer.  For example, the hashed-over piece here is by American Anna Betts, recently of the NYT.

This is not true. They believe violent rehetoric from the left causes violent acts. But not from the right.

It may sound simple but everyone (most especially those who spout their faith Christianity) needs to clean the inside of their cup first so the outside appears clean. We see what we want to see and we watch what we want to watch. We hear what we want to hear and we surround ourselves with our own echo chamber of sorts. Surly has a ton of flaws but if there was one beautiful thing about Charlie Kirk’s legacy is that we debate our ideas and thoughts. We don’t show up at a tailgate for surly and use violence. as a christian I seek to understand others and love others and I fail all the time but I recognize I don’t know everything and someone else’s view point might be something I need to learn, hear or see.

it’s not as simple as saying Both Sides. It’s everyone. No one has all the knowledge. The mistake would be throwing everyone out we don’t agree with. That allows you to think you’re right all the time. And none of us are. I like associating with all sorts of people. And maybe the vast majority here have me on ignore (which fine I get it my football knowledge is superior to 99% of you) but I enjoy getting to hear and see and interact with different view points and that’s how it should be.

The 2028 election is 39 months away. That's about 160 weeks so probably 150-200 insane "this will change everything" events. People had even cooled on the Selena shirts by 1999

NSIAP as it's important for non-CR folks to see this.

The Guardian article with a "high school friend' who called Tyler Robinson a "leftist"? Yeah, total bullshit.

I don’t think his activity will ever be released, unless it’s legit left wing radicalization. Which seems unlikely. The only real shot we’ll have of any kind of information is if the dude talks.

Agree the FBI releases may be minimal. But someone will figure out his usernames (or figure out what I'm guessing might currently be getting purged) from his edgelord forums of choice.

Also, as is usually pointed out when the shooter is from these type of online communities, the messages that he left on the casings most likely aren't for us. They aren't for Kirk. They aren't for the police. They're for his buddies' amusement. So there's probably a handful of people currently pretty scared of their exposure that may come forward to get in front of it.

Very on point for drunk Anabot to hand wave the president saying right wing extremists are cool and instead hyper focus on a couple surly posters thoughts on Charlie Kirk’s wife’s plans for TPUSA.

Even if a highly reputable news source posted the story the Guardian posted, turning around and using it as absolute proof of something was a failure in critical thinking given the nature of the information being reported.

One person of unknown background's anecdotal remembrances of another person from 6 or so years ago back when they were in high school.  YEA THAT'S IT THAT'S PROOF.

Yeah, I considered it to be a data point on one side among a dozen, in that a someone with a reputation to uphold was saying it.  Beyond that it wasn’t great evidence of anything.  About as persuasive as that Grok analysis saying the opposite.

Yeah, not faulting the Guardian or reporter much there.  Hey, at least they corrected.

Things were flying fast and furious, someone got to a high-school friend and reported.

The mistake has been taking any of it as gospel truth.

We're still in the danger zone in that department, but various sources seem to be converging on fairly accurate information.  The inscriptions on the casings seem fairly accurate at this point.  Although I'm curious about "Catch this fascist" or "Catch this, fascist."

I think the reporting was that’s a phrase from Helldiver as well.

Utah governor Spencer Cox said at a press conference on Friday that federal investigators had found engraved messages on bullet casings recovered at the crime scene, including an unfired shell that included the phrase "Hey, fascist! Catch! ↑ → ↓↓↓" — arrow symbols that match the input required to execute a stratagem in Helldivers 2. That stratagem, Eagle 500kg Bomb, lets players drop a 1,100-pound bomb that embeds itself in the ground before exploding. It's one of the more destructive special moves in the game.

Correct. That’s why I want to know more about what he was into. If he was just a deranged video game edgelord and not a left or right leaning person. People want to seize on the word fascist when it may not mean fascist in the traditional sense but some weird ass video game meme that he rabbit holed into. I bring up  the Trump shooter because there is a parallel and we still don’t know shit about that kid.

Remember when a certain group was highly concerned about the influence and potential effects video games were having on the yutes?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

There's also a picture from his mom's social media of the shooter dressed as a meme for halloween that is used by groypers, the groyper war specifically targeted Charlie Kirk.

Shooter just being a mind mushed terminally online gamer who randomly picked Kirk is definitely a possibility though.

Yes, it is part of the game. The game is loosely based on starship troopers (the movie version). Super Earth is a literal fascist society. Everything on the bullets was just memes. People looking for in-depth political motivation are going to be disappointed. He did it for the lols.

Yep, gamer and "4chan" (or equivalent) shit.

As has been said, anyone hoping for a highly motivated political activist--for either "side"--and a clear motive is likely going to be disappointed on this one. Even if he does turn out to be a full-fledged "Groyper"

It was obvious bullshit, zero credibility even as written, as pointed out by dozens of posters thereafter. Didn’t think to exercise an ounce of critical thinking. You posted it, stuck by it, and were duped despite all the blatant red flags. That’s called getting got. You got got seeking the narrative that had zero corroboration. A complete Gulli Bull.

If the dude was a Groyper, it is a crucial distinction and shouldn't be dismissed.

These Trumper motherfuckers want to start a civil war over this. We have to incessantly shove it back in their face IF there is more proof he's attached to Fuentes/Groypers in any way.

Is Anonymous still a thing? Pretty sure I saw where he/she basically said, "Holy shit, he's a confirmed Groyper. Nick is fucked."

Not that I'm trying to pass that off as a source--obviously not--just wondering if Anonymous is still in the exposing fools game.

IMO it's just become a commentator account on Twitter at this point. No research/info backing things up.

You probably already saw that this is from the video game Helldivers. In Helldivers, you play basically as Starship Troopers infantry and the game world's propaganda says you're fighting for managed democracy against fascist bugs and robots, the joke being that you're obviously a fascist foot soldiers and you die all the time. You can call in airstrikes and orbital bombardments and a bunch of other stuff, and "catch this, fascist!" is something you might say before calling in an airstrike if you're kind of LARPing like you're taking it seriously. There's plenty of video game YouTube channels that make silly little videos  goofing on the gameplay and that might even be a line from a specific one. Something like this:

ETA: dahobbs beat me to it. It's possible that he was a groyper and personally took the "irony" of the game to align with how "ironic" he saw it that a further right fascist would kill Kirk, but more likely it's just a joke the mass shooter fandom community already memefied and by using it in the shooting he's basically referencing a reference of a reference of a reference of... etc. They do this frequently now in attacks (e.g. the shooter who shot up that Catholic school recently wrote the Loss meme on the gun). Sometimes there's some sort of alignment with alt-right shit, but usually it's just nihilistic "jokes."

I think most 4chan account names just appear as "Anonymous." It's not the same as the hacker group.

Also, it's sort of counterintutitive, but groypers apparently like to sling the "fascist" accusation at those less fascist than themselves.  Like groypers are true conservatives, but those left of them but still right of center are the fascists.

This highlights what an incoherent, motley crew makes up a lot of "the right" these days.

It has been reported, and not contradicted, that it was a "Mauser" bolt action.  That would tend to mean a Mauser Gewehr 98, the standard issue German Nazi rifle of WWII, one of these:

Gewehr_98_noBG.jpg

Like it probably looks, that sonofabitch is nearly four feet long and chambered for an obsolete and nigh-impossible to find cartridge.  So it probably wasn't one of those.

BUT, after the war, the "actions," the bolt, receiver and magazine, were often rebarrelled (you almost literally unscrew the barrel and fit another one) into standard cartridges like .30-06 etc. and restocked into more conventional hunting rifles.

Those are not terribly uncommon and, if well done, prized by collectors and shooters alike.  The Mauser 98 "action" is the design foundation of the modern bolt action rifle.  In one sense, you could argue that just about any bolt-action rifle he used was a "Mauser action," but that's not the way that would be reported by LE or journalists today.

But, are pretty uncommon in the hands of 20-somethings unless inherited or possibly purchased at a gun show.  It's not something you can pick up at Academy, or Dick's or Scheels or whatever the fuck they have in Utah.

So, yeah, it's pretty highly likely "Dad's gun," or one that Dad had a significant hand in acquiring for ol Tyler.

I think it was more likely just a factory Mauser hunting rifle which are nice but not prohibitively expensive and you can find dealers everywhere.

Also knowing full well that it would help set "the narrative" but who cares, gotta be first.

Wait, is Macklemore the poster who sucked dick for drugs?

That’s a common misconception on this board. The actual story was that he picked up men at “flophouses” and used $/drugs to get them to “party” with him. Said partying was stated to include meth and sex.

The reporter absolutely deserves blame for that horseshit and the guardian deserves some blame publishing it before the internal fact checkers verified any of it. Reporter wanted the scoop and it fit the guardians biases so they ran with it. I wonder how long they knew before they retracted it.

The great thing is, you can actually just go back a page or two and read the whole exchange.

I did not imply anything other than an evangelical widow with the keys to a youth oriented political apparatus just told y'all she was going to war. Disregard at your own peril while you pat yourself on the back for running out two absolutely horrible female candidates for president and wondering why you keep losing elections.
