Counterpoint: this approach is evidence of how utterly fucked we are as a society. That's because the ONLY motivating factor for any policy action or item is "but what about ME?" It's the "Leopards Eating People's Faces" problem, nationwide. Government action X hurts the fuck out of person Y. Who cares? In fact, it's worse than "who cares" -- it's "awesome! Suck it, other guy!" It's only when Government action X ends up hurting YOU that you say "wait, Government action X is bad!" The dominant social dynamic in the US is -- for example -- people only worry about massive losses in the availability of healthcare when it hits them. When THEIR hospital closes, when THEIR medicare coverage evaporates, etc. The contra-approach -- one that is functionally dead in this country -- is that people should worry about massive losses in the availability of healthcare that hit their neighbors and fellow countrymen. We should ALL want Lorene and Cletus to have access to basic healthcare, because a healthy commonwealth is a good thing. It's an objectively good thing. It doesn't matter whether it directly benefits me or not. We should want a government that doesn't shit on basic constitutional rights because that is bad for the commonwealth, and destructive of basic governing principles that are social positives as a whole. TLDR; the approach above is just more of "all that matters is the 'me' good, zero consideration for the common good."

I was in a small town in Montana at a bar last night and 4 separate groups walked out within 15 minutes (with only 8 in the restaurant bar) because the bar didn’t have Prime (a $600 subscription). Seems the restaurant bar is screwed with either decision as the local population is tiny (once Beartooth Pass closes in September) and tourists can’t get to Yellowstone.

I can somewhat understand a bar in a small town not having a $600 annual subscription for a handful of games per year. I bet they won't have Peacock for the one playoff game on there either. But Phyllis from Mulga (RIP) expects to turn on her TV to the local ABC and see the Bama game on ABC, whether she got rabbit ears, traditional cable or streaming cable. ABC pulling college sports from Nexstar and Sinclair owned ABC stations would lead to riots in the south. Just for tomorrow: ND/Arky LSU/Ole Miss Alabama/Georgia Sinclair owns ABC stations in: Birmingham-Tuscaloosa (LOL) Mobile, AL Little Rock, AR Macon, GA (Also special shout out to Colorado - Sinclair owns no local stations in the state) Edited September 26Sep 26 by Js1
September 26Sep 26 Popular Post Bullies deserve to get their asses beat. Flip the page on them, and they are incapable of handling it. I had one in high school freshman year. Motherfucker was huge and I was still a scrawny puke with barely a hair on my nuts. That being said I was already a mean crazy fuck from my older cousins beating my shit on the reg. I started calling the bully Booger after seeing him eating his nose goblins at lunch. This was after he had been knocking me into lockers, frogging my arm, all the bully shit. One day he slaps in the back of the head then walks away with his back to me. Bad idea. I jumped on his back then hooked his nose with my fingers while choking him with a head lock. Thats when the school vp pulled me off. Got three swats as punishment, but he never fucked with me or anyone else again. Tl/dr: If someone bullies you fuck them up anyway you know how. I looked her in the eye and said "he kept fucking with me." She nodded, and told me I could go. He never once messed with me again. And the bully? He grew up to be a POS racist cop who got fired for some sort of corrupt bullshit. That's right, he was too shitty to be a cop. Bullies are shit. Treat them like it.

October 8Oct 8 I've ignored this thread for 2-3 weeks now. So there is basically still no information about the leanings and beliefs of the shooter? We're just still talking about Jimmy Kimmell. So weird. I wonder why there's no more information leaking out to the media.

My understanding of Utah law (read up on it a bit) is that they will be presenting their mini-case (which both sides agreed to) in the next court hearing. So until then there won’t be any real leaks. They put out a ton of information in their first court deal. A lot more than I was expecting to get. So they are expected to put out essentially a mini case coming up at the next court hearing.

October 8Oct 8 Just now, Chopper said: Yes but the FBI has the same info as the DA and the regarded FBI director would have leaked anything helpful to the fascist narrative. Therefore, one can conclude... I mean sure I guess. I’m not in the whole “his political motivations are…” sweepstakes. The defendant is a POS. His motive was likely to impress his girlfriend. I am more interested in the evidence the State of Utah has compiled against this guy. Like a linear timeline of that 24 hours leading up to the shooting and what he did afterwards. So I expect to get more of that in court. They already provided a lot in that first court appearance but it’s still not enough for “some.” Don’t get me wrong, I care about his motive. But i also care about all the evidence. And that evidence is key for those of us who are pushing back on the Candace Owens types who are outright blaming Israel and saying the POS wasn’t the shooter and the video from the roof was faked and that the shooter was framed. It wouldn’t shock me if he was in direct opposition to his right wing parents or if his victim wasn’t right wing enough. but logic tells me that it had more to do with his relationship. Which seemed pretty much one sided. I just see it as a guy who was in love with someone who was transitioning to be a female who wasn’t all that into him and if you combine that with Kirk’s feelings on those transitioning that may have just been enough for the killer. He ended someone’s life just to impress his girlfriend who just wasn’t that into him? I think Ronald Reagan and Jodie Foster and the motivation for that attempted assassination. The shooter left breadcrumbs everywhere. It’s clear we ain’t dealing with someone who is playing with a full deck of cards, and likely never was.

You're both trying to ascribe a rational motive and describe the shooter as profoundly mentally ill. You simply cannot have both. John Hinckley was suffering from so many different severe mental illnesses at the time of his crime that his ability to exist in every day reality was completely gone. His motive was entirely irrelevant other than the fact that it was sensationalized by the media because it involved the President and Jodie Foster. He is also probably the biggest success story of mental health treatment in history. I'm not saying Tyler Robinson isn't suffering from some kind of mental illness, he likely was radicalized in some way by being part of some chronically online circles, and it is highly unlikely he could be rehabilitated enough to rejoin society. I don't think the comparison you're making is apt beyond the crimes being of similar nature.
