I'm not really in the mood for all the pomp and circumstances this week.  Coach Sark will speak to the media at 11:30 today and I can't imagine that anything he has to say will make us feel any better about where things appear to stand right now.

Should give Niblett a lot of praise , we finally have a return game. Also Simon stepped up.

You, sir, know how to find a silver lining.

”So, you’re looking to buy a used car? How about this beauty! Sure, it doesn’t have an engine, tires don’t have any lug nuts and the steering wheel seems to be missing, but wow, look at that paint job!”

I expect the press conference to be very similar to this

Perhaps we'll get more witty responses to questions about how Arch is doing that will involve Sark saying he doesn't watch the reporters when they take a shit.

Yeah, I finally got to watch the game this morning, had some uninvited guest show up right when it started on Saturday. Rebuilding years are like this.

Baxter out this week with a hamstring injury. Great.

It’s not a rebuilding year…. Have one of the best defenses in the country and just need decent QB play to start happening make another run in the playoffs.

Questions I would like to hear Sark get asked:
Who is doing the QB coaching? How involved are you?
Did Arch try to change his mechanics this offseason?
Do you see a difference in his mechanics vs last season?
At what point do you actually change the red zone approach?

QB is the red flag but we are below average at OL and maybe only slightly above average at RB and WR.   We need something approaching high level QB to make a run unfortunately.

We have to strain...like what reporters do when they go take a piss?

Simply average QB play would have beaten the current #1 ranked team in their own stadium just 2 weeks ago.

Is it fair to expect 18 and 19 year old players making millions of dollars to entertain fans?  Good gracious.

Who are these reporters? "Why don't you play FCS teams?" who tf cares

Was that an actual question???

Black Girl Wat Meme Template — Kapwing

Ketch: with arch struggling do you lean more into the run game?

Sark: yeah, we are doing that especially with more designed runs for arch also finding out a lot about the rest of the guys in the RB room, they did a lot of that. "left a lot of meat on the bone" in the rungame last week. You wanna adapt in game, you lose an RB and they adjust the scheme, the QB not playing well they adjust to that. Going to need the run game, it needs to get better.

Anwar: Guys want to get their buddies from the depth chart on the field? How do you think they are going developmentally.

Sark: I'd love to play as many of them as we can. Gave a lot of awards out this week for that group, they are doing a great job. They are earning more opportunities because of the work. They want to play, and we want to play them and in order to do that we have to do a better job than we did the last few weeks.

cole hutsond oing alright is anyone else cross training for that role?

Sark: we had a lot of continuity at that front for a long time, now it's a bit different and we are going week to week. He had a great week of practice, but we are week to week. When you play a defense like last week where they have a ton of moving and guys jumping around and everyone coming from everyewhere "unconventional style" runners have to run that way too. It's not how you draw it up ont he board. Saturday was about repeating calls and see the differences and banking those reps and seeing more stuff like that carry it over to practice and the next week of work. There's a lot to learn from in the film. Connor played 17-18, cruz capable at center, stroh works out at center. It's the most important position on the OL - constantly training people in that position

102k people expect a performance every saturday.

Sark: yes and no, part of what we do we are entertainers in some aspect. We sell out our stadium every year, season tickets growing, etc. thats a byproduct of the the brand and the style around here that they are accustomed to. We raised the bar should serve as motivation and they need to play to the standard and exceed it. Make it better than its ever been before

Overall non-con question it's been 25 years since FCS game is it CDC or you

Sark:

What is he doing that maybe some true freshman can't do and do it immediately

Sark: football is the most important thing in his life. he wanted to do this from when he got here. With freedom you have priorities and stuff. He's focusing on football every day early and often. Byproduct of the mindset he came in with from day 1, it wasn't stars highschool whatever didn't recruit him very long after 2.5 months came in workman like mentality and it shows for him

from the sack totals do you need to see a bit more of that or the edge guys

1.8 seconds was ball release on average for UTEP. We've all got holes in our game and we have them as a team, they wanna attack the holes in our games. Strengths are our edge and pass rush - anticipate what they are going to do to combat that. SJSU missed about 3 or 4 sacks, which changes that number quickly. Not how many opportunities you get, but what you do with them to get them on the ground

Danny AAS: accuracy quality taking a dip with arch.

Sark: Arch had a good practice this morning, what happens is you focus on yourself think of yourself etc. Lets not self inflict wounds on ourselves lets take it out on them, lets go after them and not after ourselves Shift the frustration to them over there. He came back today with the energy that he's accustomed to. He's going to right the ship quickly and thats a testament to his team around him.

message to the fanbse about taffe saying you gotta give them a reason to cheer

Sark: thats back to the standard we set for ourselves they are coming to games spending money and sitting in the heat. Fans offer so much support for us, if they were booing imagine how we were feeling abou the way we were playing Dont' give up on us too quick we have a pretty good team

this presser fucking sucks. Sark is divorcing the business from the football and that's a gigantic fucking mistake.

The only reason there is a football team is because of the money and the fans. It's not the other way around. CDC needs to have a conversation with him. This isn't a bunch of amateurs out there, the landscape has changed and its expensive as fuck to do any of this.

looks like a rebuild on offense to me. The Oline is young, and so is the QB, and unless we get our RB back so is our RB.

"You guys know me, I don't make excuses."

Then proceeds to make excuses about injuries being the reason the offense stinks.

Ugh.

This team should have gotten Aguilar or someone similar.  We'd be set.

I'm listening and haven't had any issues with what he's had to say.  Spinning things about as well as you can under the circumstances and keeping it positive.  Not much else you can do.

First, Texas should never have a rebuilding year.  We're Texas.

Second, in the age of the portal, there is zero excuse for a rebuild-year.  Texas can go pluck almost any player at almost any position they need if they feel they are too young, too inexperienced, or too injured.  If we have a rebuilding year, that is 100% on Sark and his coaching staff.

Either:

  • Arch balled out in the Spring/Fall camps and Sark didn't anticipate that he confidence would get shot by a bad game vs. OSU - in which case it's Sark's fault for not contingency planning, or
  • Arch truly sucks because he can't handle the pressure of being the guy or didn't play strong HS competition - in which case it's Sark's fault for mis-evaluating

Coaching is a zero sum game. You're either a winner or a loser.  Right now Sark is 2-1, so great for him but we can all see where this season is going: 9-3 is our ceiling.  7-5 or 6-6 is more likely, with losses to OU, A&M, and Georgia.  Texas has the #2 team talent composite rating in the nation.  You can't go 7-5 with that. Even 9-3 is embarrassing barring major injuries.

Aguilar and better, game-ready, starting options weren't coming here to be a backup. Tennessee probably offered him the starting job and a big bag. Easy decision for him.

he volunteered we had to run arch more and that is now part of our offense

My only real complaint from a portal perspective is potentially WR and that's a bit hard to judge given injuries.  But maybe should have pushed for a guy like Barrion Brown and Aggy seemed to clean up really well at receiver also.   We haven't seen Mosley and Moore is hurt so maybe that won't look like a mistake a few games from now if we get healthy.  I think it's really difficult to find starting level OL in the portal and even if you did there are downstream effects to your pipeline.  I don't think our OL is a "portal issue".  We were always going to take a step backwards this year losing so many starters, but if this crew can't improve by the time conference play starts, then safe to question prior evaluations and development of that position.

Otherwise, we seemed to manage the portal extremely well at DL and Kicker/Punter to fill those holes.

It's pretty obvious the biggest issue is this team is the QB position and I'm fairly certain nobody saw that coming and not sure how you manage/prep for a Manning to mentally lose it over a couple of starts.  Sark is saying all the right things in the press conference.  Hopefully some of that positivity works on Manning.  Maybe all he needs is to hit a few in a row and he'll snap out of it.

Agree with most of this, but Arch has been here 3 years competing against CFB playoff caliber athletes. What he did in high school is irrelevant now. We need the QB who lit up Miss St last year to make an appearance ASAP.

i know imma is hacked because he has a lot of money invested in the business of this team

and every nil sponsor, cigar/donor, hell disney look like fools for the fellation leading up to the season

a lot of people with a lot of money on the table are po'ed

but if you put all that aside, everything he said is basically true

@Horn of Gabriel is saying it shouldn't happen NOW with NIL and the no-penalty transfer portal.

Big difference versus even 5 years ago

My favorite part was Sark saying he is smarting than analytics.

The broken things aren’t getting fixed this season imo.

To be fair, I said we shouldn't have a rebuilding year.  We've had rebuilding decades due to bad coaching hires.
