tossup for 2nd best with him, Aho, and (when he's on like tonight) Svechnikov.

best player on the Canes is Slavin

Yeah, it's kinda hard to pick their true #1 player. Right now in fantasy hockey it would be Jarvis (I have him and Slavin on my team, who is still on IR). Slavin is a lot like Esa - won't light it up offensively but will shut down the other team and create transition for his own. crazy they're as good as they are without him. Svech is completely hot and cold. I had him on my team and dropped him about 1/4 of the way through the season as he wasn't producing. Of course someone else picked him up and how he's killing it. oh well, still in 1st with McJesus as my main workhorse

yeah, i like the idea of having two skilled scorers and a puck retriever on each line. I think people forget or don't know Steel was a 1st round pick. he's no slouch.

Did 8 ever go more than 5 feet across the D blue line?

lol, now why would he do that? he's the greatest goal scorer ever, not the greatest player ever. if there's not a chance he'll score, he's not interested.

That goal from Rantanen yet another highlight tally. I'm kinda out of superlatives for him. Anywho, 1 goal lead with less than half the 3rd left - hope we can hold on. Not taking any more penalties will help

Big week finishing up our season-long road trip, starting with a b2b with LA and Anaheim, pit stop in Utah at their tiny-ass barn, and then a home matinee on Sunday against Tampa Bay. Tampa and LA are currently in playoff spots and Utah and Anaheim are just outside. All of these are winnable, but none of them will be easy. I'm hoping for something like 2-1-1 but won't be at all surprised if we split the 4.

The trade market is heating up and both Dougie Hamilton and Kiefer Sherwood have been held out of recent games and the speculation is because they're on the trading block. I could see Dallas being a destination for one or both of them - I just have no idea what we would give up (but I would start with something Lyubushkin and some prospect(s) for Hamilton and maybe someone like Bourque straight up for Sherwood). If not them, I'm betting we make another splash before the trade deadline and I would wager we pick up a couple players as we need shoring up on both ends of the skating spectrum

Hamilton has a terrible contract, IIRC.

my guess if that actually happened NJ would retain the AAV portion of his salary. they're already over the hump in actual salary. if I'm reading correctly his cap hit is $9M but his actual salary without bonuses is only $1M. anyway, I think it's manageable with the right negotiations

I recall hearing the commentator remark on the Wings broadcast before our game that the reason they got blanked was because it was a b2b and the boys were tired. I told myself, "Good thing we don't have that problem." Oops.

10 games left before the break and even split home and road. Something like 5-2-3 would be along our season split for win % (67%), so that's what I'm hoping for in this last sprint before the olympic debacle that is sure to unfold in front of us in a couple of weeks.
