I don’t want to jinx anything but it looks like what we have been hoping for over the last few weeks- Arch to get over the yips, get out of his head, get in sync with his receivers- whatever. The first few passes were what we had been seeing all season, in the ground I just rolled my eyes when a wide open Moore had to dive to catch a pass when he didn’t have a defender within 10 yards. For whatever reason, a switch flipped in the second or third series and Arch started hitting wide open receivers in stride, making correct reads and was making great decisions on when to run. I understand it was a REALLY shitty team but so was UTEP and manning couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. I was very encouraged by his performance tonight.

TBD

Reading all the pants-pissing in the first part of this thread was entertaining.

Next week will be a lot more difficult.  Fingers crossed that Arch can build on this momentum.

We will struggle, but I predict a win. BYE is a good program but they are beatable.

Hopefully we get some of the injured playmakers (Baxter, Tre, the Stanford WR) on offense back against Florida. Offense has potential to be a lot better still

Avatar seems appropriate.

Didn't get to watch due to bartending, but saw the highlights. Glad to see Arch making better throws and finally getting his confidence back. Now let's carry that momentum to the swamp and beat Florida!

Tiny nit pick. Either give #31 minimum of 15 carries or none.

Hes electric.

I didn’t get to watch due to being unable to log in to ESPN using my cable provider credentials - while on my private jet.

Still need to clean up penalties. Averaging 8 per game going into this one and had 9 last night. The Swamp will cause a lot of false starts.

That’s a feature with Sark…

year - rank(penalties per game)

2024 - 94(6.4)
2023 - 99(6.6)
2022 - 68(6.1)
2021 - 58(5.8)

Right now we’re 122 with 8.5 per which does not include SHSU game

The team need to improve overall with penalties. But to be fair the starting OL was only responsible for 4 last night.

Edit...4 not 3

Just terrible. And three of those games at home where you’d expect fewer penalties. I’d like to think the bulk of the penalties thus far came from our backups but I can think of at least 4-5 last night that came from the starters on the o-line.

If anything I think he got rid of his yips. The opponent sucked but he looked in rhythm and it’s good he got to feel that again. Get healthy and keep tending upward.

Sark said in the PC that 75 different players got time last night. Considering how many we had out with injuries, that’s incredible.

Garbage game against a garbage opponent, one of the worst opponents Horns have faced in half a decade.  Not really many conclusions can, or should be, drawn.  We’ll see how they look in The Swamp in 2 weeks and then The Cotton Bowl when pencils will be down.

This is why most teams try to schedule a game like this before they play a fellow power four team in non conference. But the TV nets want to have some of those power four matchups in week one and the decisions for the game date are often done a months or years in advance.

Luckily next year we open against Texas State before we host Ohio State.   Based on the eye test ,  Texas State will be significant upgrade over any of the cupcakes we played in out of conference play this year.  Actually the non conference schedule with UTSA also coming to town is a significant upgrade compared to this year and even prior seasons of recent.   LOL and I’ll have a house divided twice as my oldest is a UTSA Grad and my youngest is currently attending Texas State.   Really can’t wait to go to both of those games with my kids.

I'm not expecting much from Arch next weekend. In fact, I predict Arch won't even throw a single completion.

The offense from the prior two games would have maybe scored 31 or 35 today.

I’m pissed. No defensive or special teams scores and only one turnover. That shit won’t fly against the big boys!

Am I doing this right?

Last week we played a garbage opponent and could not block them or throw to open receivers. It doesn’t mean you should book tickets to the playoffs yet but it was very important for the offense to play well against a bad defense. If we didn’t play well last night it would be panic time and now (hopefully) we can have more confidence going into Florida.

I opened surly for the first time today and I saw a 26 page game thread. Wow.

To be fair, the last five pages of the game week thread should've gone into the actual game thread, but the Surly collective is getting senile as it ages. Moreover, the nattering nabobs of negativity didn't have a lot to bitch about last night, so they mostly kept quiet; thereby, greatly diminishing the number of posts.

Aren’t you already menstruating about the OU DL in a game 3 weeks from now?

I wonder what he’s watching while the Texas game is on over his shoulder as he sits on the floor and apparently drinks from the pitcher.

10 sacks against a decently mobile QB even when the OL for war eagle played like doo doo isn’t nothing. It’s not like our OL has been world beaters.
