January 8, 20196 yr The trailers from last night's championship game have me feeling totally meh about this movie. I'm getting a "first Thor movie" vibe from it. The humor seems really forced. Ms Marvel's tough-guy act is eye-roll inducing. Brie Larson is a block of wood, and people seem to have talked themselves into you thinking that she's some totally hot babe. She's cute is what I'd call her. Edited January 8, 20196 yr by ajax
January 8, 20196 yr Yeah. I'm normally not a "it looks shitty from the trailer" guy, but that last one left me pretty "meh".

January 8, 20196 yr She's got a great rack.... but I don't think she's a great actress for this type of fare despite the Oscar. She's not really a charismatic lead. I'm sure Marvel gave her a decent script, they have a lot riding on this movie for the next phase.
January 8, 20196 yr I remember watching her in United States of Tara. Won't bitch about watching her in a skintight suit. But I think this movie will be shit-tastick along the lines of Green Lantern.
January 8, 20196 yr i know we've been through this several times, but marvel has a terrific track record - practically unblemished - in origin story movies they've produced. if it's "thor 1" bad, then whatever. i don't see any reason to think it'll be "green lantern" bad. i'm willing to give this the benefit of the doubt until the movie proves otherwise.
January 9, 20196 yr I'm going to go see it so I can watch 120 minutes of Brie Larson. If the movie itself is good then that's a bonus.

Generally agree. I had no interest conceptually in seeing a Thor movie when I heard they were making one, but really enjoyed it when I saw it. Same for Ant-Man which has always struck me as the "we are out of superhero ideas" canary in the coalmine but made a pretty good movie. Only going to see this if the positive reviews aren't transparently You Go Girl shit. If people genuinely seem to like it, I'll see it. I just need someone to tell me what to think first.

January 10, 20196 yr I hope it’s good. I just don’t know if she can pull it off. Marvel has been on a run of good movies about superheroes vs just superhero movies. I’m just getting a craptastic/overly cheesy vibe from this one.
January 10, 20196 yr I went and saw Wonder Woman because Gal Gadot. I don't regret that ticket purchase. I mean, Chris Pine helped carry it, but still. If Captain Girl Next Door is as good as WW I will not regret the purchase, either.
January 10, 20196 yr I would just like to say the prolific use of acronyms to describe 20+ movies is tiresome in this thread. Can someone post a sticky for what all this GOAT2 MOWFOR3 means? Otherwise good discussion.

But the truth is that when discussing 20+ movies in a thread, using shorthand is a lot easier than typing them all out. If people were doing it pretentiously that would be one thing, but in this case I feel like it's almost a matter of simple survival. Unlike others, I'm pretty excited about CM. I don't think it will be anywhere close to as good as IM1 or GOTG1 but it's definitely gonna be a lot better than T1, T2, or TIH. Edited February 19, 20196 yr by utee94

Yup. The Incredible Hulk. And I was actually joking in my response. I can certainly understand how people that aren't so familiar with the movies would be confused by the shorthand.

Yes that is an absolutely absurd amount of nerd acronym with 2 variations for most. I assume you are some IT architect that isn't allowed in public because you condescend to everyone because everyone else is stupid and doesn't speak your language.
