September 21Sep 21 We're (six old guys) renting an Airbnb in Jacksonville. Any suggestions on best ways in and out of Gainesville? We are probably just going to drive in and out on the day of the game. Parking/backroads/pregame suggestions would be much appreciated. I'll hang up and listen.

No hassle if you drink, no dicking around with parking. Split across 6 guys wouldn’t cost you much for limo/sprinter van.

September 22Sep 22 It depends on where your airbnb is located, but the drive to and from Gainesville isn't bad. It's almost entirely done via back roads. Police will be everywhere and they are the small-town variety who make their living ticketing people. If you have someone picked out to be the sober driver it's not awful. There are really only two ways to get there. You take i-10 to 301 south and then get on SR-24 to Gainesville. The other option is to take State Road 16 to 301. I second a car service if you can swing it.

DO NOT SPEED through Palatka! or any of those other podunk towns. Also I'd probably look for a BNB in Crescent Beach over Jacksonville.
September 22Sep 22 Satchel's Pizza, not close to campus, but worth a visit if you're hungry. Has a bit of the that old Gainesville feel IMHO. Enjoy the game guys!
September 22Sep 22 There are a few good craft beer options if that's something you guys look for. Blackadder - Close to the Oaks Mall (Newberry exit on I-75) Feels a lot like a British pub. They don't have much food but often have food trucks and there is a McCalister's Deli in the same plaza. Lots of Belgian beers but pretty much have something for every style. This is often the most laid back and "local". While you'll see plenty of people getting drinks prior to the game, there are just as many that plan to hang out and play board games instead. They have a house cat named Edmund who is super chill. https://www.blackadderbrewing.com/tap-list Swamp Head - Located south of Archer Road exit on I-75. I think the oldest of the breweries in Gainesville. Good variety of beer styles; usually has food trucks on site too and more on the night before a game. On gameday, they'll also have a tailgate tent just north of the stadium you can get beers at. I believe they usually stock one or two of their beers in the stadium too. https://swamphead.com/tasting-room/ First Magnitude - Located closer to downtown Gainesville. Another brewery with a wide assortment of beers. And another place where they usually have a food trucks. They make a crushable lager called the Head Beer Coach if that's more your speed. Also sold in the Stadium, https://fmbrewing.com/ I know there are a few others but those are the ones I'm familiar with. Edited September 22Sep 22 by gatormarc
September 22Sep 22 Dive bar in the northern part of town with better than average bar food and great beer selection (and beer store next door): https://thecraftybastards.com/ Another pretty good brewpub close to campus and downtown: https://www.cypressandgrove.com/
September 22Sep 22 Waffle House capital of the world in that area. Be sure and grab some breakfast there.

September 28Sep 28 Allow time to get though StarkeThe Huntsville of Florida (death row is here.) And take it easy around Palatka. That’s pretty much ground zero for the Klan in Florida. (Jasper is pretty good comp here.)
September 28Sep 28 Per the food network, hit a place called The Paper Bag for a kick ass sandwich. Literally just watched the episode and I may go.

Just do yourself a favor, don't speed through those towns. Slowing down will take an extra WHOLE minute. Going slower also gives you more time to take in the "culture". Like the White Eagle Lounge and Gun Range... they have happy hour on booze and ammo! Or mayhaps, you'll see a nice racing lawn mower for sale on the side of the road. September 29Sep 29 Stop at Newnans Lake and see if you can swim across and back without getting attacked by an alligator
September 29Sep 29 Lake Alice on campus will have gators (lots of them). Just assume all lakes on campus have gators. Like the football team they are not aggressive at all.

In a roundabout way an alligator actually isn’t an intimidating mascot, they’re for the most part shy and afraid of humans. But yes very fitting for the current state of that program. I truly think it’ll be a wheels falling off game, they’ve overcome terrible coaching and effort for 3 straight non-blowout losses. Texas is coming in with something to prove, UF has injuries, a lame duck coach who sucks, and a team ready to quit. Edited September 29Sep 29 by Helobious

September 29Sep 29 Fun Gainesville fact: as in Austin, there are lots of bats, with "bat houses" on campus. https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/bats/

October 4Oct 4 Anyone else think this was a game that was going to be played in the Tomato Bowl with at least one member of the McCown family in the stadium?
