September 23Sep 23 thank fucking god all those twitter/X ump grading channels finally convinced the people in charge that maybe calling thrown ball as a strike thats more than 5 inches outside the most optimistic version of the strike zone was starting to royally piss off the casual fans. but... only 2 challenges seems a bit low. 3 would make the most sense (and yes I know they get their challenge back if successful) Edited September 23Sep 23 by AUS-97HORN
September 23Sep 23 The weeping of gnashing of teeth when a key call can’t be challenged in the playoffs this year is going to be hilarious (as long as it’s not against my Astros… which is becoming hilarious to think they’ll even be there)
September 23Sep 23 I disagree with the limitations. Just call it down from the booth. Joking but only halfway: If the ump is wrong, give the team it hurt another challenge.

NM. I thought it was all ARAT - all robot all the time. My question is just kind of why the half measure. All this is going to do is show up umps. We know they suck already, Just go full ChatGPT calls and save us all the heartburn for the next couple of seasons Edited September 23Sep 23 by Dnaguy

September 23Sep 23 Just now, VirginiaLonghorn said: Because MLB won’t challenge the umpires union by completely taking the idiot out of the process. That make sense. Showing their asses up on a nightly basis will likely move the needle
September 23Sep 23 This ought to really help the pace of play. just have automated calls initially and let’s go. Do we really need to worry about 16 people’s jobs?

Do we really need to worry about 16 people’s jobs? Not their job per se. It’s more of how much you pay for these ppl I think. MLB will not have to pay these guys nearly as much if you take out balls and strikes. That drops the human led decisions / calls from 300 pitches / game + 51-54 outs + safe calls + fouls etc down to just the outs, safe calls, fouls and etc. That is likely a reduction of your quantitative responsibilities by something like 75% or so. September 23Sep 23 I like this but to this 9 minutes ago, Pato del Muerto said: This ought to really help the pace of play. I dunno about that. The fastest games are those with minimal hits/walks and few pitching changes. Pitchers actually have to start putting it in the zone more regularly to get strikes well....

September 23Sep 23 Yeah there will be shit load of challenges, but they are instant at least. Two thumbs up here

It’ll be about 10 seconds per challenge. even if all 25 of those from that game above are challenged, that’s an extra 4 minutes tacked on to the game. this is one of those changes where by the 2nd weekend everyone will be asking why this wasn’t done 5 years ago.
September 24Sep 24 Meh, at least I won't have to hear and read people whining about it any more. People mostly think this is a problem because they started putting the box on tv. How do we know the box is so right?

September 24Sep 24 Quote Each team will get two challenges and can keep them if they're successful Is a player ejected if both challenges are exhausted and he taps his helmet for a third?
