I still subscribe to theory the rapture already happened and we're what's left

Not the second coming in general, this particular iteration.  Each one is a reboot, and (strangely) wrong.

You are just throwing out gibberish.

Nothing really to add, but just want to say with regard to the thread title…

I just landed. Did it happen?

I just landed. Did it happen?

Yes. All good Christians got taken away.

Note. There are no good Christians…

At one time, the apostles believed the second coming would happen in their lifetimes. Then that was amended. So this has been “reinterpreted” since literally the time of Christ.

If someone said to me a poster here had this background I would have sworn it was an incredulty or zeus type nutter.

That shit would suck as a kid. My friend grew up Jehovas Witness and his parents didnt give half a shit if he graduated or went to school at all because it was unnecessary. Since the world would be ending and their god would be setting up a paradise for only the Jehovas any day now. Dude ended up graduating from UT and becoming a silicon valley programmer.

Guess there's a lot of nature that can overcome the nurture if it's strong enough.

Yeah, there's definitely a bit of nihilism that sets in when it feels like nothing matters besides your own religiosity, because the end is so near.  I remember arguing with my mom that I didn't need to do school/homework, since the Rapture was going to be soon. It did not go over well, but as a kid, I really thought that made sense. It's a weird way to live, and it devalues your time on Earth when you constantly think life is about to end. Even weirder when you think people are actually hoping life ends and they move on to the after-life.

That’s cool.  Ever get to hear them jam? I bet they play good stuff that isn’t goofy like that.

That seams unlikely.

Nickel Creek co-habitates?  That's . . . weird.

That's awesome... I was actually at the show in the video. Timing was perfect

The concept imagined by a South African is an "American" Christian oddity.  Solid contribution.

Obviously he is one of the Afrikaans... a white guy, or the American / USA Fundies wouldn't believe him.

Apparently the fine print said you have to be OUTSIDE when this thing happens or you will get stuck to the ceiling & scrape around while the rapture thing tries to find a window or door that doesn't have a header beam.

Under a tree? You're gonna scrape leave & branches off as you go.

Wouldn’t be the industry of Make Believe and Pretend without another one of its laughably, indefensibly, and embarrassingly wrong predictions!

Yall wonder why western civilization is in peril.

What should we do? Keep electing failed businessmen for President? Cut more funding for math and science? Try to indoctrinate more children into false religions?

I pos-repped you because I just now realized after two days that your title is a play on the Santa Clause tour. My mom always said that I was special.

Since people have started putting Halloween decorations up the first week of September, I expect that story to be resurrected the first day of November.

Followed up with the two TikTok chicks. The first hasn't updated yet; probably got raptured and is laughing at all of us who got left behind. The other one posted this last night:

I kinda wish someone would have done this, maybe outside Joel Olsteen's church.  Of course, you'd have to find dolls that have the proper "Rapture" pose, but I think it would be worth the effort.

Well, here's how Austria handles that in their constitution:  Parents decide their child's confession up to age ten, but by age fourteen, the child has the legal right to choose their own religion, free from parental or external imposition.

(and Austria is not, shall we say, a particularly liberal nation)

I might guess that really contemplates Catholic or protestant and is a product of the nation being a hockey puck in the post-Reformation battles.

Seeing as it's Austria, probably Catholic or nothing.

We should probably merge RD‘s “Goddammit, I just got scammed” thread with this one….

That was such a great show.

What if the rapture happened and everyone is so shitty we are all still here.

I'm leaning toward this and we should all act as if this is true

More to do with having a standard procedure for determining which religious instruction class children will attend, which is compulsory in Austria. And includes Islam as well which has been officially recognized and had official state instruction since before the Austrian Republic because of Bosnia in the old empire.

I hope someday that forcing your religion on a child is considered abuse.

I dunno. Even as a cynical tween there was a certain wonder to sitting in a ring of folding chairs and watch several women bust loose in outbursts of strange languages. Missed out on snakes though.

Only if I get to play tambourine and keep half the money.

Is it like this

Maybe the Avengers already undid it and we just didn’t know.
