In 2012, a Georgia offensive lineman on spring break was needing to get back to Athens from Panama City, Florida. He was afoot, and decided to take a Greyhound.  He has a rather colorful blog entry from the ordeal.  Takes 5 minutes of your time:

I know it is the daily mail, but....

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced new ground delays at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, and Dallas Love Field.

The delays are set to last until at least 9pm ET, potentially affecting hundreds of flights at the three airports.

Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) is one of the nation's busiest airports, serving approximately 1,800 flights and connecting over 200 domestic and international destinations.

The ground delay at the major travel hub is set to begin at 6pm and will last until at least 10pm.

I’m at dfw now (come say you are from the internet at Dallas cowboys bar in terminal A and watch the game); can confirm dfw is dead.

This essay is delightful. I didn’t know I needed it.

I’d take a Greyhound anywhere if it involved 6 UGA cheerleaders and 3 UGA horsey girls.

Quote

The week took a turn for the worst when I left our house in seaside to go meet up with some of the UGA Cheerleaders staying in Panama City Beach (Which I might say is the nastiest place on planet earth) . When we arrived we went to eat dinner with country singer Luke Bryan, probably one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. The next day we went to his concert and had a blast. After I rode to Destin with 3 of the Equestrian girls from UGA.

FWIW, we made the drive from Houston this summer for a road trip to California. Not sure if you've ever made it before, but I hadn't. At least big chunks of it are scenic. I'd absolutely take a bus.

I have had all my projects placed on hold except one. And yeah, that is an international client.

I would probably be able to enjoy time off if’n I knew I would receive back pay. As a contractor, it’s not guaranteed by law.

I made the drive from Dallas to Los Angeles several times. I did not mind the drive at all despite half of it being just getting to El Paso. Seeing people living in the west Texas desert though, well, I'll take a hard pass on actually living there.

I've driven the Houston to Mesa / Tempe round trip several times. It is indeed scenic and I enjoy the views.

I'm thinking of leaving later and stopping for start watching one night, but I'm usually just trying to get the trip over with.

Something tells me you would piss your pantalones if your old, out of shape ass had to ride the bus.

We took my MIL to the Redwoods earlier this month and we started talking about alternative ways of getting back to Austin just in case the shut down shit prevented us from flying back. She mentioned taking the bus or train. Fuuuuuuck that, we’ll rent a car and I’ll drive us all the way back

I would put my MIL on a bus or train and tell her it's a tour and we'll be there to pick her up at the end... Even if nothing prevented us from flying back.

Sounds like it's time for you to pen another Immamac's Tales from the Tailgate.

More how the media pipeline is completely distorted if Newsmax can bitch about an interview re: the shutdown where 47 used no lube.

So let's take this at face value.  Is their plan to keep the government shut down for 3 years?  Because I think that might not work.

They think they are pressuring democrats with these kind of statements.  But Trump has already put it out there that the Rs could open the government without dem help- proving that they just don’t want to.

Yeah, but no one who needs to hear that will hear that.

They heard it only because he said it. Everyone else that has said it is ignored, but not him.

I think those people switched back on Fox news, heart them say this is the democrats fault, and immediately started nodding their fudge stained heads.

As someone that lives in the Northeast stories like this, or even the story of a buddy that took the Greyhound from Austin to Houston, just tell me how different the bus experience is here vs there. I’ve taken and would continue to take the bus from Boston to New York City. It’s just another mode of transportation here. But you get south, that shit is seriously third world.

DFW doesn't seem too terrible for now.  Took my mom there this morning for her trip back to Vietnam and only took about 15 minutes to get through security.  Plane left on time. Hopefully things will get sorted out by Christmas when she returns.

I took the Amtrak from Dallas to Chicago around 18 years ago. 27 hours of insane shit once you get past Little Rock and into the St. Louis area. Played spades with a dude who got out of prison after 12 years on the sightseeing car, the stop in St. Louis was early morning, and damn, the people that got on there were pretty entertaining. Had some bathroom sex with a chick that got on in Springfield, Illinois. Just a wild time

If I recall from my time growing up in VA/NC, Radford had a reputation for attracting dumb hot girls who liked to put out.

Halloween in 1998-ish? There was a pretty well renowned party out on a golf course every year. My best friend went there while I was at CofC, Greyhound up there and crashed with him

A person has to be willfully stupid, on the no-fly list or completely demented to take Greyhound from NY to LA.

I had to Greyhound a few times many years ago, between smaller towns where regional air wasn't at all practical.   It was awful, but I never encountered complete service failure like driver not showing up as in video.   I imagine it's way worse now than back then, given the general demise of all services in the country.

Or if you watched the video or know anything about youtube, there are people that do shit like this as a job.  Sometimes they stay in one star hotels, get a tattoo at a one star place, or travel around the world and share their experiences.

I wasn't commenting on the YTer.  I was commenting on anyone who would embark on the journey for general travel purposes.  Which I assume there are people that do.  Who knows why they would, but they're out there.
