Time isn't going backwards, and well, if they want championships they might want to fill out an application for NAIA.

It worked out so well for Oklahoma State, that I wish this would be true. But Jerrah doesn't really give a shit about his alma mater. If he did, they wouldn't be where they are. Imagine dying not having seen your alma mater in 60 years, and your own team win one in 30, and that's if he croaks tomorrow. It'll probably be more like 70 and 40. Oof.

September 28Sep 28 Bama went for it on fourth and short at midfield and failed, thus flipping the field. Stupid. Georgia went for it on fourth within field goal range and failed. They lost by three. Amusingly stupid. Kick the fucking ball. Edited September 28Sep 28 by RomaVicta

I'm a "go for it/live a little" type of fan and even i thought that was dumb
September 28Sep 28 It was inside the 10. That was so stupid. Tie the fucking game and then worry about winning it later.
September 28Sep 28 I wonder how much the stupid phrase "settle for a field goal" and commentary stating that going for it is "aggressive" have wormed their way into the subconscious of coaches. You're not "settling" for anything; you're scoring three points. Just watch your team and fans when you kick the ball through the uprights; they celebrate a victory. The earlier in the game it is, the less you know about the value of three points. It seems that as the game goes on, almost always, the investment in those three points pays off very nicely in either providing a margin for victory or putting your opponent in the position of needing to score twice to overtake you. I've also noticed that sports announcers never revisit a decision to be aggressive when it fails. The attempts in the Ga-Bama game, as important as they turned out to be (Bama put Georgia close to their goal line; Georgia squandered a chance to tie and win the game in OT), were never re-addressed.
September 28Sep 28 Alabama hadn't scored since the beginning of the 2nd half. They weren't trading points. Kirby needs to catch some shit over it because it was incredibly stupid.
September 28Sep 28 Depends on the scenario, but in the case of UGA, stupid to go for 1st when it’s a chip shot to tie it (when you’re (allegedly) the better team at home). In the case of Wake Forest? Your defense is gassed in OT, I don’t mind trying to win. heck on the Bama attempt at midfield, dropping into shotgun and QB punting might have been a better choice (yes, hindsight) Edited September 28Sep 28 by lilMAC25

Often when I see an underdog make it to OT I think they should go for the win as soon as possible. We'll forever have the glorious Dave South call when Baylor converted the two point conversion to beat the Aggies for the first time in forever. I heard it live on the radio.

Plays like that stab me in the heart for that very reason. I wanted Georgia to lose because I've gotten to where I can't stand Kirby Smart, but to be that receiver? Man!

September 28Sep 28 I mean it was a game winner. It was 2nd down actually but yeah. Drop by freshman Talyn Taylor.
September 28Sep 28 FSU bobbled away a chance to tie in overtime. Dropping TD passes was a theme this weekend.

September 28Sep 28 games like this are a big reason I love college football. Thought Bama had no fucking chance. The parity this year is insane.
September 28Sep 28 As W would tell us, there good strategery in taking 3 points when you can get it and for punting the ball when you don’t want to turn it to your opponent on downs. Just ask DKR, Bobby Dodd, Bud Wilkinson, Ara Pargehian, Robert Neyland and Paul Bryant. I saw Bryant punt or quick-kick on third and long plenty of times. It helps if your defense can tackle in the open field! His 1961 NC team gave up 25 points . . . all year!

I was thinking it ironic that NIL may have leveled the playing field among top teams and given smaller teams more of a shot at an upset if they acquired a couple of players they wouldn't normally be able to draw. I didn't see that coming, if I'm right. God knows how bad A&M would be doing if they hadn't got two fast receivers.

September 29Sep 29 Texas has used the quick kick many times. Colt McCoy made the kick a few times. Great tactic because nobody is back to keep the ball from rolling towards the goal line.
