Why does Kalen’s name keep coming up for these jobs, is Bama not a good job to have?

Not when everyone else can pay now. It's why Saban bolted. It's a poor broke ass state.

Massive mistake to follow Saban but hes from South Dakota. Just does not seem like a fit there

Who the fuck wants to follow Nick Saban?

At Alabama he’s always “not” Nick Saban.

At Michigan he gets to not be dumbass sooner Sherrone Moore.

Exactly.

Replace the trainwreck.  Never replace the legend.

This is going to be great. He’s going to bail to Michigan. Alabama will get their ass whipped in the playoff (would rather it wasn’t blow u, but whatever). They’ll hire someone even worse than him and drift for a while.

Would love to see it.  He's a smart guy.  He just never had a capable QB basically the whole time he was here.  And he didn't burn Brett Hundley's RS even though it might've saved his ass.

Rick has a good gig…..he’s not throwing his hat into that ring…..

Plus, you know, Tuscaloosa, which Wiki describes as the regional center of industry, commerce, healthcare and education for the area of west-central Alabama.

Biff Poggi as interim coach for Citrus Bowl.  Awesome!

When I first read this, I thought it was a joke. Nope. Biff Poggi is indeed the interim coach for Michigan. JFC.

So if Deboer goes to Michigan, and assuming they can't pull someone away from a job they just accepted, who does Bama go after? Freeman? Would Cignetti leave? Sark getting another extension out of it?

ETA this guy broke the Moore news first but take with a large grain of salt.

Normally, I'd call bullshit on this, but Michigan has apparently known about the Moore thing for a while, so it's not like they haven't been going through the Rolodex in the past couple of weeks.

#3068

Question is: How hard would Bama fight to keep DeBoer?

Just like - how hard would Texas fight if Bama came after Sark?

Fwiw - Cignetti's buyout is $15mm if someone poaches him which is a lot less than most of these schools are paying to fire their guy. And Michigan (or Bama hypothetically) wouldn't have to pay their coach to leave.

Freeman to Giants, Cigs to ND, DeBoer to Mich, Sark to Bama.....Saban/Urban to Texas

If ND comes open, we'd have to be light speed.  I suppose Texas and Ohio State could come open and it would jump to ludicrous speed.

this sport is insane , going to laugh my ass off at Penn State if Michigan pulls this off like its just another Wednesday

They already pulled it off. They didn't announce this *just now* without a good indication of what's coming.

#3077

Why the fuck would Sark want to go start over at Bama when he has the Texas job already?

I'm also not sure why Cignetti would leave Indiana. He is already coaching the best team in the country there.

Let's tone down the idiocy a bit. The best jobs from 10 years ago are not the best jobs anymore.

Yes, this is the craziest.  Moore is cooked,  only Oklahoma will love him now.

Michigan snags Bamas coach

Bama snags Lane

LSU somehow ends up with O again

Tell me you don’t know the south without telling me.  I’m mean you only need one billionaire.  I know for a fact there are at least 3 people in Mobile /Baldwin County alone who are members of Augusta. There’s more money there than you know.  There’s a difference between rich and wealthy, there’s some wealth at the beach, Point Clear, Mountain Brooke etc..  Per capita, that isn’t bad for a “poor broke ass state” to have 3 guys who fly there at 9 and be on the tee box by 11.    You just need one big cigar.  I’m sure there’s more than one in Bama.

There's only one Regions Bank, one Yellawood, one Pilot truck stop and one Coca-Cola United.  Sorry for your shithole.

Those guys aren't rich because they hand out blank checks. Saying you just need "one" big cigar is ridiculous. You're talking about well into the 8 figures every season that someone needs to pick up the tab for.

Are we going to see a $15 million/year coach this year? The teams who keep their coaches will be contenders next year.

#3093

So when does Art Briles get to re-enter the carousel? I haven't heard his name in a while. I think he would be a good fit in Michigan if they want to maintain the culture.

Someone is gonna hire a coach who's contract still has wet ink.  Definitely.

Michigan should steal Brian Hartline from USF and we can watch Buckeye heads explode calling him a traitor.

Man, I don't see his FCA/Mayberry persona working in Ann Arbor.  About as bad a fit as Brian Kelly in Baton Rogue.

It's not your job to question the hire, it's your job to get this rumor to catch fire
