October 19Oct 19 I'm gonna guess that in this new era of NIL and revenue sharing, contract buyouts are gonna drop. At some point they're gonna run out of money, No?
October 19Oct 19 The Norvell contract makes me sad for FSU. They’re already paying for stadium renovations and exploring options to leave the ACC. Bud Elliott has made veiled references to Saudi PE money for a conference buyout. Perhaps they rip the band aid off to make Norvell go away.

October 19Oct 19 Will be interesting to see which schools break the longterm contract pattern. Nil and portal make turnarounds faster as well as collapses. 10 year deals are stupid. Did DKR ever have a 10 year contract?

If recruiting is now about the best paid players, then get the best coach in, no need for schmoozers like Mack anymore. money whip who you want as far as recruiting is concerned. its not like there is a salary cap in cfb.

October 19Oct 19 One of my greatest regrets is not getting into a profession where they'll pay you lots of money to not work.
October 19Oct 19 Where are all these new coaches going to come from? It’s hard to think of more than a couple good candidates right now.
October 19Oct 19 All these openings! Only one Eric Morris. It’s like a game of shitty musical chairs right now.

A lot of young, up and coming coordinators are about to become head coaches. Either by one of these schools directly or to the schools that get poached.
October 19Oct 19 apparently Cignetti's buyout is only 15MWhat? Horseshit. Offer him right now. Thank you for your service Steve. He'll never win a title at IU.

October 19Oct 19 A lot of fan bases are going to be really disappointed and some mid coaches are going to get some crazy paydays. Wait till Auburn enters the chat.

It's a good investment if the guy actually hits, but they're giving these coaches Saban-like contracts for having 1-2 good seasons, which does not mean you're a good coach. Fucking Ed Orgeron and Gene Chizik won national championships.

October 19Oct 19 Good investment for whom is the question? I’ve yet to see a direct, non-funny math explanation of college athletics helping make school more affordable or better in quality for the students of a given state. Which is ostensibly why state colleges exist.

Does Texas not have an athletic fee? AFAIK, the fee is still fairly minimal (a couple bucks per credit hour) and covers free admission to everything but football, offers discounted football tickets, and pays for stuff like intramural sports and gyms.

This summer the Florida system in general got a court decision allowing schools to reach beyond that fee and redirect other student-derived fees to athletics. Texas as a state is not better, this is just an indicator of where the whole thing has gone off the rails for most schools.
