They managed to win a conference championship under idiot Mike DuBose.

That wasn't really because of DuBose though. That was because they were cheating their asses off.

When in Bama's history have they not cheated their asses off?

I mean, they were even cheating more than Bama does normally. It was like 1980s Miami level cheating with the FBI involved.

They immediately went on line 5 years probation and lost a bunch of scholarships and there was a criminal investigation.

No surprise - it's recruiting HS talent vs having to depend on the portal every year. He'd rather have a more convenient pipeline to develop and just fill in holes on the LSU roster as needed.

Better recruiting + $12MM per year is hard to turn down.

What a coincidence.  The same reasons that Brian Kelly went there and immediately leveled up and started winning NCs!

Hell, they were barely even trying.

Well, LSU was a good move for Nick Saban and Les Miles

Saban was crazy good and no one will replicate him but Bama was always a top job. They managed to win a conference championship under idiot Mike DuBose. Their issue was boosters who couldn’t get out of their own way and a cultish mania to maintain some sort of Apostolic Succession to The Bear. That led to questionable coaching hires.

Lots of blue bloods have gone through lean streaks. They never went more than a decade between SEC championships.

From 1982 post Bear until 2009 after Saban Bama had 2 out right SEC titles and 1 that was a 3 way tie. So 2 full SEC titles in 27 years. Below is the coaches during that time. It's not exactly a who is who of college coaching legends. The myth that Bama is a huge destination since Bear is exactly that, a fucking myth.

That means they have a dedicated alumni and fan base.

That is true. I had a relative who lived in Alabama and he knew quite a few guys who took a second mortgage on their double wide so that they could keep their season tickets.

As has been stated, it appears the Louisiana government is going to ultimately be on the hook.  Baffling how corrupt that state is.

The Chesney to UCLA rumors are stronger than they have ever been, but the ACC clusterfuck may be a monkey wrench if it opens a playoff door for JMU

Agreed

I don't follow Louisiana HS recruiting closely, but I imagine LSU isn't keeping nearly as many blue-chippers home like they did in the past.

And a consensus national championship in 1992 but okay.

It was amazing to watch his expression change last night from the time they got out to the early 17-0 lead until Auburn tied it up.

Can we take a second to laugh at Florida for basically hiring Billy Napier 2.0 to replace Billy Napier?

Also why won't Ole Miss let Lane finish the season? I understand they're pissed but now they're completely throwing away their chance at a NC this year. Seems stupid to me.

gonna be the first state to have its bond rating decline because of football decisions

Why should they? Especially if he is threatening what he's threatening if they don't? Fuck him.

Hopefully we learned something. I think Napier could have succeeded if he just hired a good OC.

I think Sumrall is better than Napier and not particularly close in comparison.

He has managed to win at two different schools.

It'll be interesting to see how signing day goes as he will coach Tulane in the AAC game next weekend and possibly in the playoffs.

Because they have a good team this year and want to win a championship? This kills their postseason.

Their post season is dead regardless. Dude threatened to burn the program down, period. He's been a gigantic piece of shit so far to them so fuck him.

So letting the man have his cake and eat it too?

There's absolutely no fucking way Ole Miss should allow this.  He's essentially taken a job at another school and still wants to dictate how things are at his old place.

It’s fucking Arkansas. Who the fuck did they think they could land?

If they write SMU a big check they can have Lashlee.

Kidding. I think.

The other question is why would LSU who probably just robbed the entire state of Lousiana's budget to pay for Kiffin be ok with him hanging out in Oxford for the next 4-8 weeks.

Good.

I wanted Sumrall and wondering what happened there. Grew up in Alabama (same high school at different times), wife graduated from Auburn etc.  Guessing with no evidence that Florida money whipped him and Auburn wouldn't match. However it looks like we keep the DC and his defense was pretty good this year. The offense was a dumpster fire until Freeze was let go. There is some talent there if they can get anyone for the OL.  I can't remember the exact details but the last few years of Malzahn and Harsin had a total of something like 7 (yes seven) total OL in 5 years. Freeze improved on this but it was so deep in the muck that it still effects us. All the new guy has to do is establish the offense.

Kiffin wants to win that championship for Kiffin. That's it. Ole Miss can either shred every ounce of self-respect or maintain some pride and tell him to shove it.

Hes got 4 years of experience as a head coach.

You picked a 25 year down period where they won 3 conference titles and an NC, one very good coach and some mediocrities. I can think very quickly of another blue blood program with extremely similar skins on the wall in the past 25 years.

This discussion always sends me, on paper everyone explains why Alabama just doesn’t stack up to the “true” destination programs. But they have more hardware than anyone and the consensus two best coaches to EVER do it both built their legacies at Alabama and not those other places. Like it or not that says something about the program.

The post-Bear hungry years say a lot about how hard it is to really be a consistent great power and not a lot about Bama not being a great gig and program. Plenty of great programs have streaks like that.

They have had 2 great coaches.

That's your entire argument for it being a destination program. That it's similar to Texas that has brought on shit coach after shit coach because of a shitty hiring process.

You're correct, it is similar to Texas in having shit coaches aside from Saban in the past 30 years. It is not a coaching destination. Wasn't before Bear and hasn't been since.

The world is very different now so we're all just guessing. Alabama was a great destination when being willing to illegally pay players was a game changing benefit for a head coach.

This entire reality speaks to the reality of the shit that is the G5 in the CFP equation and the CFP process in broad strokes. JMU, in the fucking play offs. 💩

So how the fuck did OkSt lock in the UNT coach, the lone G6 guy that is a QB guru and comes with his own QB, while we are seeing the SEC middlings fighting over the scraps?

Make it make sense? How can’t pig, gator, clan aggy, or barn not provide a better option?
