So far we’ve got these P4 jobs open: PSU, MSU, UCLA, Arkansas, VaTech, Stanford, Okie Lite. Florida is likely getting added to the list. Those are some big jobs and not a lot of sure thing hires. Some mediocre corches gonna get PAID.

Also half of these idiot big 10 ADs are gonna spend their share of that $2b in the first couple of years firing coaches, and end up with nothing to show for it. What a shit show college athletics has become.

October 13Oct 13 I don't see how you watch Cignetti and Indiana do what they did last year, get two wins against top-10 teams this year (including against #3 Oregon on the road this last weekend), and think "nah, we'll go with the guy who has lost 17 in a row to top-25 teams. Not top-10. Top 25."

Not top-10. Top 25." The only knock against Cignetti is his age, you have maybe 5-6 years of him left. And also whether he wants to jump and how much IU is willing to pay to keep him there for those 5-6 years. They might be willing to redirect some hoops cash to make it enticing not to move. Dude is a badass. “I win. Google me.”
October 13Oct 13 Probably going to hit or exceed $200 million in buyouts. Money for a coach and his staff to *not* be the coach. Sorry, gotta cut archery and softball again, we have unrealistic expectations and had to pay this guy $50m to go away

The coaching market is a bubble that may not burst. You're coaching at Michigan State. Not bad, no likely championships, but not bad. How incentivized are you to work your ass off just to have good seasons when coasting will get you that kind of money? Phone it in, delegate, and then live like a god however you like.
October 14Oct 14 What big games besides Oregon has Cignetti won? I don't think the win against that fat retard will be considered a great win by the end of the year.

Illinois will lose to Washington but then probably win out. They're still a good team and Indiana absolutely destroyed them.

Illinois might not be a juggernaut but the number 1 team in the country only beat them by 18, while Indiana won by 53. If you have a sizeable list of teams with a better resume, I'd like to see them.

Winning against Oregon with IU’s roster is a very different story than trying to win with Penn State’s roster. Not even close to the same comparison and Cig’s been at IU for just a year and a half. At JMU he made great playoff runs and took them to the FCS championship game. He’s a hell of a coach.

Also, who gives a shit if he beat Ill by 50 while tOSU beat them by less? This isn't soccer. Edited October 14Oct 14 by Alien Octopus

Not sure that Indiana's roster is that weak. Franklin got canned for not winning big games. Would need to see more from Cignetti than just a win against two over rated Big X teams. He did exactly what in the Big X championship and playoffs last year after backing in? 0-2 This year he played one really overrated team. Oregon was a solid win against a top 10 team. It is his only top 10 win ever.

If he'd done this at Duke or some other basketball school, it would've been hella impressive.

I am just saying that if Penn St. fires Franklin for not beating top teams and then hires Cignetti, who also has had trouble with top teams, and in fact has lost to Penn St. and Franklin, then they are pretty dumb. Cignetti has done great, is an entertaining asshole. He reminds me of McGuire over at Tech. Cignetti has one big game win on his resume. I believe Mcguire beat Iowa St. and OU , but not sure either were top 10 team. Anyway , no big shakes, will see how Cig does against tOSU this year. McGuire will play BYU soon enough, they should be a top ten team by then.
October 14Oct 14 Looks like he didn’t get the Jimbo exemption. These mitigation clauses are usually why these things settle, each side wants a clean beak and to not have to track this stuff. My guess is that they’ll settle for $25-$30M. I wonder who of the other hot seat coaches have the Jimbo exemption? I think Gundy did not have the mitigation clause because it was negotiated down to $15M even after last season.

Cignetti has the same number of top 5 wins (1) in 1.5 seasons at IU as Franklin did his tenure at PSU. Before Cignetti IU had 9 plus .500 seasons since 1980! Finished ranked once (2020). Literally one of the worst P5 programs. And as mentioned, Cignetti has won lots of games in the playoffs and against top 10 teams at the FCS level. I am on record saying that firing Franklin has a high chance of blowing up but come on man. Edited October 14Oct 14 by 956 Worldwide
