Honestly, cleaning up the sloppy offensive penalties is one thing we really have to see today.  There's no excuse to not have that fixed after a bye week.

Yeah if the offense looks like they did the first 3 weeks of the season then that's not going to be good for us moving forward. Of course getting the win is always a must but just getting the W isn't enough.

Texas will lose this game and it won’t be because of the defensive effort/performance. I predict more INTs than completions.    Gata 13, Texas 10

Eurotrash? You Americans don’t have anything more clever than that?    Well, Donald Trump is your elected president so I’m not surprised.

I’m not expecting the false starts to get cleaned up in the noise of the Swamp. I put the O/U at 2.5.

That shit is just a feature under Kyle Flood at this point.

I’m going ahead and posting my Texas Florida post-game thoughts now to get ahead of the curve.

“Arch was precise and efficient today. His stats were just as good as they needed to be leading into OU. Overall the Horns looked very good. Not too many penalties. The running game was solid. The WR group looked better. Of course the defense was exactly what we expected. I’m pumped about the OU game next week. Arch will unleash the deep ball several times. This game was just what Texas needed going into next week.”

Mine is just “Arch throws for four TD’s, shuts up naysayers”

And runs for another.  Texas wins 45-7.  Surly says any team worth a shit would've scored 48.

CJ Vogel:

Wanted to keep a running count of which Longhorns did and did not make the 74-man cut for the trip to Gainesville this weekend.

As of this morning, OTF can confirm the following did not make the trip for the Florida game.

QB Trey Owens

RB Rickey Stewart

WR Michael Terry III

OTF will update the thread as new information arrives.

Bobby said a couple of weeks ago that Stewart wasn't dressed out but he wasn't hurt. Not sure what's going on there.

Honestly, we probably beat Ohio State if not for the penalties.

We have a mentally fragile QB in a SEC road game in a difficult environment against a team with some real talent and a very desperate coach.

Getting the W today, however it might happen, is more than enough.

I suspect 2 of those 3 won't be here next year.

Pretty high on the list of things I want to see - as long as Arch doesn't barf it up again - is Wingo having a great game against a P4 opponent (esp. one with a good defense).

For those who look at Wingo as a still-young receiver w/ potential, that's fine.  But given the hype surrounding his arrival on campus, and some early games against G5s, he has been talked about as an elite receiver.  A clear #1 coming into this year, on a team ranked #1.  And I don’t think that's merited.

After his 127 yard game against - ahem - UTSA last September, he's not had another 100-yard game.  He didn't have a * 50-yard game * until … Sam Houston State.  That's a stretch of 16 games.  He's never had a 50-yard game against a P4 team.  (He came close, but when you come close but miss hurdling a low bar, that just emphasizes the miss, doesn’t it?).  He's averaged approx. 19 yards/game, over 14 games, against P4 teams.

Wingo wasn't just described as a fast guy;  people emphasized his size.  Big, physical guy, with a huge catch radius.  Sounds like a great candidate to score TDs.

After his TD against Louisiana Monroe last year, he went 14 games - almost a calendar year - without another TD, until UTEP came along.  Entering the UTEP game, who do you think had more TDs - Wingo, after 18 games, or Parker Livingstone, after 2?  Wingo has zero TDs versus P4 teams.

Setting aside the numbers, when we watch games with good offense, we usually see receivers … making plays.  Stretching, extending, making athletic catches on passes that are far from perfect.  They elevate the offense.  (Those plays usually come when QBs make difficult throws under duress, not when the QB has time and space but - for some inexplicable reason - flings the pass yards from the stationary receiver, but we digress … ).  With Wingo, it's seemed as if he needs perfect passes, to make the catch.  I'm sure he's made some good ones, but when he averaged under 2 catches a game ('24), it's tough to recall many.  And that's considering his body of work, not just the recent games, when our golden boy QB has been a mess.  (For me, catching perfectly placed rainbows when you have yards of separation against overmatched G5 defenses doesn't count for much anymore.)

Again, lots of context.  He's still a soph.  When Bond went down, yeah, he should have taken advantage of the vacuum, but a really good and experienced guy like Golden was better equipped to do so.  Ewers' limitations, and Arch's struggles.  So there were contributory factors, and he has time.  And the time is now.  Starting with this game, over the next few games - assuming Arch gets him the ball - it would be a great time for Wingo to live up to his expectations and potential.

If he’s still that mentally fragile after this meany games then it’s not going to be a good season. Games aren’t going to get easier.

didn't we get a lot of positives about this dude during camp?   Thought he would be an early contributor.

I severely overestimated what we would be getting from the 5* freshmen WRs. Even Johntay Cook played more as a freshman than what we've gotten so far from Lockett and Ffrench.

Everything we heard about the offense was lies. The ones about defense were true tho

We should have gotten that Oregon WR

What position are you playing today?  Starting?

I thought it was pretty clear in offseason reporting that Terry and French weren’t going to contribute this year and Lockett would mostly play in mop up duty and if there are injuries

Moore? He flat out preferred Oregon. Sometimes you just lose a recruitment.

Looks like more people are picking Gators +4.5 to upset the Horns - I think it was FL +6.5 at some point.

You can’t tell me that Aaron butler and Niblett are better receivers than Lockett and Ffrench. But hey at least they know the offense more in practice!

Yeah almost no one likes Texas today. Need to remind a lot of people who we are.

Can he start?

I think if we snuck him in a uniform it would take one play before he was found out.

"Hey the guy that just took that bad, slowly developing screen play 37 yards - is that fucking Bijan Robinson?"

In street clothes among other large humans, Bijan looks less imposing than I would have thought.

And runs for 2 scores, after the 2nd TD he stares down a DB say’n “I’m back bitch” and gets a warning from the ref.

Who are those two assholes with Bijan?

As long as our o line isnt falling over themselves, and converting at an okay rate on 3rd down. (Without any unexpected silliness) We should win comfortably

We got this. Defense gonna wreck shop. RB's gonna pound their D-line, Arch will get his mojo back, and the WR's will break ankles and feed our lord and savior, the endzone.

Just out of curiosity, and I know one of them is Owens, but why wouldn't Terry or Stewart be here next year? Terry could still get playing time in conference, or he could be ok with a RS to get his body right. Stewart knew the moment he arrived that he would be RS-ing to put on the muscle.
