he's a back up ss, not a utility guy. if he could play first, that would have been great. we have peña and correa that can play ss. we don't need his 94 games at ss, or 1 game at ss
cut him if it saves us $1.5 mil. a AAA guy can hit .213 for the major league min. hopefully avoid being the worst ops+ in the league too
had to make the move to dump dubon's  salary, not sure about keeping him around. maybe he's paredes insurance, but there will be better fits available, if the money fits
He has played over 50 games at 2b and a handful at 3rd. He is a utility guy and should be used as one if he is kept.

There is no point in saving 500k for someone who cant hit or play defense. At least this chump can play gold glove level defense which is worth 500k.

Non-tendering him was a move, you don’t have to trade him to get rid of his salary.

If you can play short at a GG level, you can play most everywhere on the field.

near gg level, once. his glove doesn't have the gold tag

Regardless, if you play a good short stop, you can play just about everywhere in a pinch.

3rd / 1st / OF ?

we should have traded dubon for another arm or back up catcher. needs

id rather see brice at 2nd than this guy. brice needs reps to see if he can turn into something. be a possible asset.

if parades is out until until may / june we are screwed

If you can play short, you can play third.  His height might not be ideal for first, but he can play there in a pinch. He would be fine in the outfield also.

Pretty sweet that 3 of the 6 / 4 of the 9 / 5 of the worst 15 are former or current Astros.

Enyel De Los Santos and the Astros agreed at $1.6 million, source tells @TheAthletic. De Los Santos will get a $100,000 bonus if he appears in 60 games.

That is a little thing the Astros like to call player development.

Hell, 60 innings of work last year would have made him a front line starter for the Astros.

In a moment of weakness I posted something this year in the Astros-Rangers hate thread about their WS win being the flukiest in the last 20 years.  So it's not quite 20 years since the 83 win Cardinals in 2006 but I'd call it the flukiest since then.  A team full of guys on career years and it's their only above .500 season since 2016 (which had its own luck going with a 36-11! record in one run games).

Nick Allen, really?

Win 1 fucking home game

son and I were first row for game 5 when Altuve hit that clutch 3 run homer and inability to win a home game ruined what would have been an all-time top 5 sports memory for me

I made a prediction during that season about Adolis and his career year ...

Spoiler

Can't remember if I posted it, but I told my boys (a) he's obviously juicing, (b) the league will either suspend him after the season or tell him to cut it the fuck out under threat of suspension, and (c) his numbers will revert to his usual mediocre norm. Or worse.  Seems like it came true. Fuck that guy.

Nimmo for Semein, fuck he really was available.

No way would the Rangers trade him to Houston, or anyone else in the division. They sent him to the NL for a reason.

Pretty sure he was talking about Nimmo

wtf are the mets thinking ?

Nimmo, who signed his eight-year contract before the 2023 season, has already agreed to waive his full no-trade clause, according to a source. He has $102.5 million remaining on that deal, and according to MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman, the Mets are sending $5 to Texas to offset the transaction.

Semien, who signed a seven-year, $175 million contract with the Rangers in December 2021, does not have a no-trade clause. He has $72 million remaining on that deal.

Semien and shortstop Corey Seager joined the Rangers going into the 2022 season and together led the club to the first World Series title in franchise history. But not much has gone right since then.

The 35-year-old Semien is coming off a disappointing year at the plate as he batted .230 with a .669 OPS through 127 games. His 15 home runs were his fewest in a non-shortened season since 2018. However, Semien’s defense remained strong, highlighted by a +7 outs above average, placing him in the 92nd percentile in MLB. He also earned his second Gold Glove.

Stearns has not been nearly as good in NY as I expected.  Bringing in a 35 year old 2B coming off a terrible season and paying him $75M?!  Bad idea jeans.

Yeah, you could hang it on one of the dart boards.

i watched that game from a hospital room while my wife was in labor with my first born, so it’s extra special. he was born the next day so the front page of the chronicle from his bday is jose walking off chapman for the pennant.

i have no recollection of the remainder of that baseball season.

Damn, Sonny Gray off the board-to the Red Sox for a lotto ticket hard throwing lefty 2024 5th rounder along with $20 m to offset his salary.  That’s a fucking steal and Brown should have been all over it.

He's pretty expensive for a 36 year old, look what the Red Sox wound up with. Plus we probably have JV coming back for one last hurrah for like 10m.

"Gray, 36, waived his no-trade clause to leave the Cardinals. The three-time All-Star went 14-8 with a 4.28 ERA last season while not missing a start for St. Louis.

He had been guaranteed $40 million for the next two seasons: $35 million for 2026 and a $5 million buyout of a $30 million team option for 2027. His contract was changed to guarantee him $41 million: a $31 million salary for next year and a $30 million mutual option for 2027 with a $10 million buyout."
