Yeah my only objection when it came up was that Correa's arm would be wasted there ... and I didn't know that about Paredes at 1B. Sounds great to me. I love, love, love what Paredes brings to the team. If someone needs to go from the infield, it has to be Walker imho. Great glove and great at the plate when he's hot, but he's too streaky.

And as an aside, man, I really missed watching Correa throw the ball. What an otherworldly cannon. Just effortless.

Correct, there is a very high percentage of a complete lack of baseball in 2027. The sides couldn’t be more farther apart than ever in any past CBA negotiations.

Yes, and the “ghost chasers” will be more apt to agree with MLB for obvious selfish reasons which will create a huge schism in the clubhouses because they have already made their money.

hmm lot of these guys aren't coming back

Yeah, McCormick isn't making that next season.  In fact, I bet he spends more time in AAA in 2026 than making the MLB minimum.

McCormick and Garcia are for sure gone.  Only one of Dubon or Urias will be kept.  Jesus Sanchez will probably be dumped.  Trammell and De Los Santos are potential non-tenders.  All totaled, if they cut/trade Garcia, McCormick, Sanchez, and Urias, they’ll enter the offseason $30M-$40M under the CBT threshold.  If they were also able to shed the bulk Walker’s salary they’d be in really good financial shape; $50M-$60M is a very healthy amount to work with considering their needs (2 SP and a backup C).

Get rid of dubon, chas, garcia, de los santos san andreas gta vii for starters

So what would a Walker trade look like?  He has 2 years 40m left on his deal at age 35. When he signed his deal, it was reported that he had a limited NTC as well:

"Christian Walker's three-year contract with the Astros contains a limited no-trade clause that will allow him to block a trade to six teams, a person familiar with the deal said."

There were a lot first basemen moving around last offseason, but several of those were 1 year rentals. I would expect the 1b market to be at least warm this offseason, so there may be a good opportunity to send him out and take on a player/reclamation project with some salary they want to offload. I hope they don't end up paying down like 20m of that deal in dead money to get rid of him.

The Yankees wanted him before he signed with us, once the Blue Jays are done with them maybe we can trade him there, their infield defense is horrible. If we eat a portion of the money maybe we can get a B level prospect in return.

I know everyone is saying Paredes will be 1B next year, but I was wondering if the Astros should triple down and go even older.  Julio Franco is 67 and a free agent.

if the yankees lose today, they'll be open to about anything

As a fan, I don’t understand this thought process. I hope Jim Crane personally writes a check for his remaining salary if it gets a better prospect in any trade which helps the Astros win major league games. I don’t care if Crane and partners make money, etc.

Cohen hasn’t been able to buy the Mets a championship yet - but I would much rather have ownership take a view similar to what the Mets did with Verlander. That deal only gets done if the Mets pay a good chunk of his salary and in return, the Mets get better prospects in return.

It’s not like anybody truly expected Espada would be gone.  Injuries and luck got him another year.

Because I don't want them to create a bunch of dead money that could otherwise be used for players that help now.  Did the Mets really get much value in paying 10s of millions for Gilbert and Clifford? I doubt it was worth it for them in retrospect, although they were lucky they weren't on the hook for that extra year of JV.

Even if all they get is a pitcher on a 10-20m deal in return, it would be worth it to help now. I would rather see that than paying a bunch of money for a lottery ticket that may never pan out.

Any speculation about a Houston title in 2026 can be put to rest.

Only one more season of JP3 then Correa moves back to SS, I guess.

Two more.  Unless you are already counting on no baseball in '27.

a 2027 strike ends it all here, next year could be the last ride
