I've seen Russian athletes spout rhetoric about exterminating Ukrainians. If any of these fuckers even support a little bit the planned genocide of my people from this country, they can burn in hell.

Even during normal times it has not mattered to me even a little bit if the person who wins the gold happens to have been born in the US like me. I've enjoyed watching some US Soccer at a bar with others cheering for the US (moreso during the world cup) but we always knew they never had a chance at advancing very far. The Dream Team was fun because of the big names back in the day but the games were boring as hell when they would just slaugher some foreigners while giving 50% effort. Means even less these days since there is zero pride and only embarassment being an American. I'll be tuning in this year mostly for the hot snowbunnies in the mountain sports.

The last few pages of this thread crack me up. People who were voting Republican in 2004, but think that there are no normie Republicans today and that all Republican voters are totally unreachable and evil must be the least self-aware people on the planet.

I don’t think y’all realize how cloistered most people are, especially world-class athletes who train constantly. For example- a lot of them just found out that Trump and Epstein even knowing each other last year. That was like breaking news for them.

But sure, let’s give y’all a pass for holding your noses about torture memos and black sites with eyes wide open, but not athletes that don’t even really follow politics. That makes sense!

Yeah, I'll be there, mostly at events we have no chance in, and I'm sure I'll still be cheering for them (yes, unless I know they're maga).

Fucking this. I took my oldest boy to his Volleyball Nationals in Vegas in like 2022. Prior to that, I hadn't been since the late 90s, so the new Vegas was quite a shock to my system. Back then, I could play blackjack (real blackjack) for hours. Wouldn't win a ton or lose a ton on those $5-10 tables, but I had a good time. Drinks were free or cheap. Food was good, and cheap. Rooms didn't require you to take out a loan, etc. When we went in 2022, nothing was free. Nothing was cheap. Nothing was even reasonably priced. And nothing was better than before. In fact, most of it sucked and was stupidly expensive. Cheapest 'blackjack' table I could find anywhere was $50. So, welp, I'm not playing. Fuck these people. There's something about Vegas that I like, or liked, but I'm not gonna pay them stupid amounts of money for rooms and restaurants and for the ability to sit and lose money to them on games that are more rigged in favor of the house than they've ever been. /csb

Room rates quadruple when there are big events in town. My daughter played in the Red Rock Rave National Qualifier and a regular room is 250. Come back on a regular day and that same room is 50-60. It's gotten completely out of hand. Along with all the other stuff you stated. The fucking Excaliber is 220 a room during events, and that place is a shit hole.

Yeah fuck that. I expect all americans to make an effort to know what is going on in their country, now more than ever. If these athletes all have time to curate instragram pages (and they do), they have time to figure out the realities of american politics. If they choose not to....fuck 'em, they are part of the problem.

Circus circus would like a word. That place is basically a flop house

Once I stayed in the Tropicana for ces. That place still there? Only time in Vegas a madam knocked violently on my door at 3am asking if any of her girls were in my room. When I said no she accused me of hiding a working girl in my room. I told her I wasn't letting her in my room but she or I could call security if she wanted. She sneered at me, pointed at my wedding ring and hissed "you know what we call guys like you, right? Mr. Fucking M." Then she stormed off down the hall and out of my life forever.

Back when CES and “the other show” were the same week, that was when real life Vegas was like movie/TV Vegas. In 2003 or so a 70+ year old cocktail waitress at Circus Circus thought a colleague of mine was a producer and gave him an HJ at the blackjack table. Allegedly.

There have not always been WHAT? Dude. I’ve got a faded facial scar from a minor injury in 1987 that says otherwise. Are you not old enough to remember the huge expansion of Nazi skinhead groups and very familiar right wing extremism in the 80s? David Duke? Pat Buchanan playing footsie with white nationalists? Randy Weaver?

Look at Reagan in this picture. He kicked off his campaign for President with a states rights speech in 1980. Do you not realize where he is standing? Who do you think he is talking to? It is not different today. It’s just more open.

image.png

Bozo, did you forget who you are talking to, and what color I am my friend? You might as well be trying to teach me the effects of lotion and how important it is for me to use it only a daily basis. Of course I know where he was standing, it's historical significance, and what he was trying to say.

Before you knew what racism was I was already dealing with it. I was 8 and my brother was 5. My dad took us to the mall. There was a small rv parked in the middle. Me and my lil bro went in there to check it out and the guy showing it literally picked my 5 year old brother up and threw him out while saying, "get out of here little ni**er". My dad knocked his ass out and we hustled out of there.

Walking home from school somebody threw a half full slurpie from a moving car, hitting me in the face while they screamed the N word. That's how it was if you were black back in the era you are talking about. So don't tell me whether it was more open or not. You weren't the one getting harassed by law enforcement. You weren't the one getting called racial slurs. All older black people know where Reagan kicked off his campaign and the significance of it. Growing up black you were taught to drive a little further to an inhabited area if you ever got stopped. Keep your head down if ever law enforcement is talking to you and yes sir mo sir. Older black people taught you what everything meant and gave you the game to survive. We knew what was going on because if you weren't aware it could be your life.

I said all that to say this. Reagan was working the Southern Strategy by starting his campaign at the Neshoba County Fair. It was a political move to win the south. It was a calculated dogwhistle devised by campaign strategist Lee Atwater.

In 1973 Trump was being sued for not renting to blacks. In 1989 he took out ads calling for the death penalty of the Central Park 5. Trump's attacks on Obama's intelligence and citizenship. For decades Trump has been talking about Eugenics and Racehorse Theory. They are sending us drug dealers and rapists. They are eating the cats and dogs. Fine people on both sides. They are poisoning the blood of the country.

Trump was a Nazi and Fascist long before politics. He isn't dog whistling for votes, or dog whistling at all. These are his actual beliefs said loud and proud. He truly wants minorities eradicated, which is why a Nazi like Joseph Goebbels, whoops, I mean Stephen Miller, not only gravitated to him, but was allowed in his cabinet. Twice!

For the first time in our history we have a Fascist government with Nazis in our cabinet and a dictator as a President, but you want us to believe it's always been like this. Come on bro. We had a full on Insurrection on January 6th 2021.

If you voted for this, which in my opinion, is the worst moment in our history as a country, you are not redeemable.

I say this as a friend and an ally.

Fair enough.

I guess I would respond that the course was set long ago, and that quite a few of the people who “voted for this” didn’t vote for this any more than most people who voted for Reagan & Bush II voted for “that.” And for that reason I simply refuse to believe that the Trump coalition is this immutable, permanent fascist majority that can’t be broken.

It can and it must.

Yeah we stayed at Luxor, which was iirc the closest to the convention center and we could walk to it in the underground. It sucked ass and cost about $250 like you said.

We talk about the Southern Strategy that started with Goldwater then Reagan perfected it. But as far as black people are concerned there was always a "Southern Strategy". Long before the R's were doing it the D's were doing it. What do you think FDR was doing with redlining and Restrictive Covenants being built into the FHA? Black people were excluded from the original 1935 Social Security Act. Black people were excluded from getting subsidies in the 1933 Agriculture Adjustment Act. All done to appease the south.

Reagan was just another name in a long list of political leadership using the mistreatment of our community to gain or stay in power. Rinse and fucking repeat. Nothing has changed there. What has changed is the DOJ being openly partisan, being a weapon for, and answering directly to POTUS. People attacking the Capitol at the direction of POTUS. The Supreme Court giving POTUS unlimited power. Congress protecting POTUS on multiple front on issues that warrant immediate removal from office. POTUS attacking media and threatening them through the FCC. The executive branch completely ignoring our Constitution at every turn. The Executive branch creating it's own paramilitary to punish and intimidate the populace.

All of these things are unprecedented, and a huge percentage of the populace is all for it. Maybe I'm just a little too cynical. Maybe I just don't have the energy to believe in people anymore.

Yep. We usually stayed right there because the event was always at the Mandalay Bay convention center and you could either walk or take the rail. Club vball is stay to play, so the club would reserve a block of rooms and you had to stay where ever that was. The year we stayed at the Excaliber I was fucking pissed. The rooms were like 70's carpet. Popcorn ceilings. The toilet paper holder was that thin tin metal shit you used to see at Waffle House. Shame when Waffle House has upgraded their shit before you. The Johnny Rockets was more expensive than the one I ate at on a cruise ship. 22 bucks for a burger.

When my daughter was 14 we were walking to the convention center and in front of swoops some showgirls handing out flyers in nothing but shoes, thongs, pasties, and feathered wings. We are a group of Texas Bible Belt girls. The mom were pissed! Hahaha. I thought about pulling out my phone but it wouldn't have been received well by our group.

Yeah, the girls right there at the Excalibur exit by the ped bridge across Vegas Blvd, when you're headed toward Luxor? I guess they're always around there. My kid was 18 and he wouldn't admit it, but he was loving it. And yep, the rest is very familiar too. All of it. The stay to play stuff was a real mixed bag. Vegas used to be kinda aight, but fuck Vegas now.

Man….do I feel ya.

And I say this as a pretty white-looking Hispanic who is literally part of the power structure of this state (quite behind the scenes, mind you).

I love that Bozo believes that these people can and will be saved. He’s dead-wrong, but I agree with him on one thing: we have to take action.

I just think that the pragmatic action is procuring good weapons and ammo, practicing with them, and getting right with the concept that we may not live much longer. We’re going to be killing each other on a broader scale sooner than most people think. It’s so fucking unnecessary, so fucking stupid, and so fucking inevitable.

The people who hate us and want us gone/dead aren’t salvageable, and aren’t worth saving. They are happy seeing my entire family in a mass grave by Alligator Alcatraz, which is literally a thing that this regime has called for. I’m done with them. Once you say “let’s do a genocide,” and then you actually start doing the genocide/ethnic cleansing, I’m done with you. Come for me or my family, and I’ll do what the Jews in Germany 1938 should have done.

This is what it has come to. There’s no stopping it so long as one side insists on going all the way.

Well I’m with you on the first part, but I don’t think it’s inevitable.

There are a LOT of historical comparisons here and most point to violence and even disunion and collapse. But MAGA also has a lot in common with the Klan in the 1920s, which was seemingly on the verge of taking over the country, and then it just collapsed. The reasons are complex and beyond the scope of this thread, but fundamentally, it ran out of suckers, scared off the normies, and became inconvenient for powerful people and institutions. Things are bleak right now, no doubt, but I think there’s a pretty fair chance that’s what happens to MAGA as well.

So, like I’ve said a million times around here- I pray for peace and buy green tips I hope to never need.

Here I sit in a big empty house as I type this getting it ready to put on the market. Moved my ladies to a blue state at the beginning of the school year. I will be up there permanently in 10 days. When I was younger and studied the Holocaust, I always marveled at all the warning signs that the Jews ignored. I told myself if I ever found myself in that situation I would not ignore those signs. So we are out of Texas and have ourselves positioned to jet when it hits the fan.

I firmly believe we are about to repeat an ugly stretch of history that nobody thought we would ever see again. Being one of the ethnicities that would be headed for the trains, I am not going to stay around to see what happens. When they turn towards black people I'm out, and we are close to that now.

Fucking casinos are charging for parking now.

for the first 30+ years of my life, I lived 4 hours from Vegas by car. We used to do it for a "cheap" weekend. 29 bucks for a decent room at the Tropicana or similar, beers were free or very cheap, 99 cents for breakfast, 4.99 for a buffet lunch or dinner. Maybe bet a few games at the sports book, then flop by the pool all day checking out hot ass. My (now ex) wife and I would go 6-8 times a year. Friday after work, put 20 in the gas tank, throw a beer cooler in the car, and hit the 15. Hell, before my marriage went to shit, I could count on a road blowjob somewhere around Baker. Good times!

Now? It costs a fucking fortune to eat/drink/stay there. The rooms don't have coffee pots, because they want you to walk to the lobby and spend 8 bucks at Starbucks, or order room service. They are milking you for every single penny. Fuck that shit.

I was thinking about some of the minority groups that moved towards MAGA in 2024 and thought about a far less comforting historical analogy: when I was in college I had a friend whose family had escaped the holocaust - first to relatives in South America in the late 30’s, then Mexico, then coming to Texas after the war.

The patriarch of the family was a decorated hero of the German Empire. He was awarded an Iron Cross for valor in WWI following in the footsteps of his grandfather, who won an Iron Cross in the Franco-Prussian war.

So this was a deeply conservative, patriotic family- “Germans of Jewish descent”- and the patriarch was apparently one of the handful of Jews who supported the Nazis as they rose to power and thought their anti-Jewish rhetoric was a sort of posture to stir the patriotism of the German masses against communism. We can also presume that he was like the german Jews who thought Nazis were really talking about the typically poor Eastern European and Middle Eastern Jews who had immigrated into Germany, not good German Jews like himself.

Anyway some of his kids made it, but he died in the gas chambers in Poland.

And to keep this thread on track, if Trump's obese, demented, atherosclerotic, racist, halitotic, tiny-dicked, misogynistic, homophobic, stupid fucking self makes another appearance during the MNC I'm going to throw my fucking phone at the television.

Yep. Simple mathematics. We are 14% of the population, and the way you see the population turning its back on immigrants will be the same way they will turn their back on us.

The rooms don't have coffee pots, because they want you to walk to the lobby and spend 8 bucks at Starbucks, or order room service. They are milking you for every single penny. Fuck that shit.

Never touch the in-room coffee makers. Unless you trust that previous guests didn't screw with it.

since they eliminated them, I actually take my own. I bought one of the little 4 cup jobs, and I throw it in my suitcase. The GF and I enjoy a cup of coffee in bed every morning, before getting dressed. Getting in an elevator to go down to Starbucks doesn't work for me. We were there for a few days, discovered the lack of a coffee pot, and I bought one at the Walgreens/CVS whatever right off the strip. I have it in a closet, and only pull it out for hotel stays.

Both of y'all make great arguments, imho.

Personally, I really think that so much of what happens going forward is going to hinge on how long the Dotard lasts. He's circling the drain (CTD in first responder speak) right now, and imho it won't be long before some super lucky bastard walks in and finds him DRT (dead right there).

I appreciate you and commend you for your strong belief in that some of those people can be redeemed. I guess my tank for that his zero long ago.

Will you comment on this alleged satire:

Holy shit, just got into a yelling match with my wife (on my side) and the in laws. Just straight right wing propagandists. They immediately bring up shit that I only vaguely know about from the Fox News thread and such on this site as if it is straight reality.

The only thing that came of it from my super Christian MIL is she claimed Jesus would send the immigrants back instead of housing and feeding them. I told her that was the antithesis of Christianity and it made her double take. For a moment, she was self aware. But only a fleeting moment. Then she gave me the finger.

I am very sorry to read this, but then again I am a woke and care about other people. I believe you are probably less safe in the short term in a blue state, but yes in the long term Texas may be a very bad place. Or maybe it won't matter at all.

I have a relative on a green card, I am a US citizen, and I have told them to leave. They refuse to take this seriously. I know have to tell said family member that I won't get into a car with them for much longer, as thats simply an unsafe situation for me as well. And that reality fucking sucks.
