  • Went to first game of season last night. Good times. Reed Sheppard seems kinda dumb. Holiday needs more minutes still. KD "off" night and still drilled 2 of the biggest shots As we all know..

My favorite play in basketball is a drive to the hoop and Sheppard is looking fearless.

Twin and Jabari need to pull their heads out of their asses

We may have a new Scott Brooks.

Pretty crazy, the Nuggets are dominating on the boards.  Basically the difference in this game is Jabari playing like a bag of ass.

nice air ball sengun

reed !!!!

Unrecognized in this Sheppard dominance is Amen has been playing incredible defense on the perimeter.

Amen also had a couple of hockey assists on corner 3s from Reed - obviously drawn up plays.

hell of a comeback quarter

Rockets were down by as much as 13 and go into the half up 3. I'll take it.

Keep running plays for Sniper Sheppard.

This is my first Amazon game-Candace Parker is pretty awesome, she should be calling the game.

OMG what an orgasmic first half from Reed Sheppard.  20 points on 8/11 shooting in only 15 minutes + the sick no look pass to Amen Thompson.  100% the reason the Rockets got back in the game and lead at the half.

Playing like crap again. Jabari and Alpi have been horrible tonight.

Jabari actually finally not sucking the past few mins.

That pass by Jokic was ridiculous....but who the fuck cares homeboy bricked the shot so womp womp

I feel like our bigs always play like ass against Denver.  I’m not sure if it’s fatigue from trying to stop Jokic, the way Denver plays defense, Jokic as an underrated rim protector, etc.

Denver 6'11" guys are bigger than Houston 6'11" guys...and good. A lot more work to try to play even to Joker.

You just jinxed us to half a season of nba cup games.

Ballgame.

Good game though

We had no business winning this game anyway....piss poor performance for the majority of it by pretty much everyone at some point. Would have been nice to "steal" a W, but oh well.

Sheppard has (I think) one shot in the 2nd half because he’s getting doubled, which is exactly what you want from him.  The rest of the team needs to pick up the slack.

When they got it to 1, need to let Denver inbound and foul immediately for 2 FTs. Might have had a shot to tie it if there were 4-5 seconds on the clock instead of 2.

Needed a timeout that we didnt have

Positive is this team isn’t close to it’s ceiling while Denver is.
Nuggets were missing 2 starters.

Between Finney-Smith and Eason we’re missing two reserves that play 20-25 minutes each and would close games depending on match-up.

Going back to that Bill Simmons/Zach Lowe podcast, this was a good example of a team that is pretty good right now but is still figuring some things out and to @ChickenSandwich’s point, the Nuggets are a little more mature (structurally-when you have the best player in the world it’s much easier to know what kind of team you want to be).

Also, Durant looked old and cold-he plays 10% better and we pull that out.  I put this more on him than Sengun, the latter who has to maneuver around Jokic’s 280 lbs to get to the basket.

Missing 2 bench guys is not the same as missing 2 starters, who are also the best 2 defenders in the starting rotation.

Houston is a really good team, but they caught the Nuggets at 60%.

Well one is 37 and one is 23.

If Durant is your best player your ceiling is 2nd round.

If Sengun is your best player you're a legit contender.

Oh please. Your starters are not all equal. Jokic on the Wizards would win 40 games.

(I agree that missing Gordon and Braun is huge, though)

Houston also has $25M in dead cap with FVV out.

Kind of concerning they largely outplayed us with Braun out. He could turn a playoff game.

Durant needs to play about 30 minutes a game. Full stop.

An ambitious Chronicle reporter needs to meet a Rockets trainer in a Methodist parking garage and get DFS’ medical records. This shit is ridiculous. 14 games in and the we have no idea on even a timeline.

Lol at 60%. Houston is missing FVV and still trying to figure out how to replace him with whats on the roster or eventually make a move. They are developing their offense.

Way bigger loss than two role players. Houston lost their Murray and is dealing with it.

The Yahoo Sports hoops guys hit the Rockets-Nuggets comparisons pretty hard this week, and I think we saw it last night. They’re just a more developed version with statistically the greatest center of all time. What gives me hope is that we have Durant, and Amen or Reed could emerge as All NBA players down the road.

I believe Jokic is shooting in the high 70s from mid range, and over 90% near the basket. He’s a problem if he just catches it inside the arc. As good as OKC is, they were lucky to escape the WCF. I hope and pray we don’t see either until the conference finals.

A lot to learn from in this game, credit to Denver for making shots when they needed them.

Reed's first half was incredible. The long chest pass inside to Amen for a dunk might have been the most encouraging out of all the highlights. The dude is a baller. Fuck yes.
