2025-26 Houston Rockets Thread - Back to Contention?

I think they need a trade. A lot of weird pieces that aren’t suited for their current positions. I’d keep Reed, but they must add a true PG.

I’d take 2 seconds for Jabari. Colossal failure in resigning him.

  • Went to first game of season last night. Good times. Reed Sheppard seems kinda dumb. Holiday needs more minutes still. KD "off" night and still drilled 2 of the biggest shots As we all know..

  • Lulz Danielle Lerner (@danielle_lerner) &#13

  • Went tonight. Good to pull that one out...tough win.

I wouldn't overreact too much. Your best asset hasn't played in a couple weeks now. You're in all of these games.

I think JSJ will be fine.

I'm just not sure what Thompson is going forward and I get that that's a hard pill to swallow but he can't shoot or play point guard. Is that worth a rookie max extension? I'm not sure. I don't see him as the 2nd best player on a title team unless he takes a leap or Apli turns into Jokic.

A lot of this is just noise until Alpi comes back. That dude is a fucking dog and has been sorely missed in these games against POR especially.

He's currently the third best player and is in his 3rd season. He has greatly improved his shooting inside the arc and FT line, but yes, if he can't be better than what he is currently BTA, his ceiling is greatly limited. My biggest concern right now is the Thompson, Smith, and Eason's defense is abysmal. Way too much easy penetration into the paint.

Can't remember who it was - Lowe and someone else maybe - saying they'd keep Amen over Sengun if you theoretically traded one.

I think that's fucking insane. Amen is a phenomenal talent - there's just some stuff under the hood that's concerning when you watch this team. I'm rooting for him to figure it out because he's likeable and seems like a really high character guy - he just leaves you wanting a little bit. That turnover last night down 2 was brutal as was the blown lead when Durant sat. JSJ was an easy target and deserves a lot of blame but Amen has to play around stuff like that and figure it out. Say what you want about Russ but Amen needs a little Westbrook in him. He needs a little "go fuck yourself".

On the other side of the coin, Sengun may have a little TOO much of that.

I think y'all figure it out. You're not going to keep missing these looks from 3 all season. Your schedule has also been brutal to start the season.

I’ll stick with trading Jabari. It’s already a negative contract in my opinion.

The kid is just a pussy. He’s made public remarks about how he doesn’t like to bang inside. Dude you play power forward. It’s a big part of your job.

I thought he was an important piece last year because he was the only guy on the team that could consistently hit 3’s, and the defense looked like shit without him. They have the roster flexibility with Durant to move on. Should have probably kept Brooks and moved Jabari.

#1407

Makes the most sense. They could then move Amen off the ball for good this season and back to small forward like last season (where he forced his way into the starting lineup replacing an injured Jabari anyway)

#1408

Alperen Sengun is a game time decision, he’s testing it out right now.

Tari Eason is OUT, and Ime Udoka says that timeline is game to game … but it’s “nothing terrible” and they did get “good news” from the MRI.

Aaron Holiday will start in Tari’s place

Just a dogshit 3 point shooting team. There will be some good shooters in the buyout market. I hope we can work something out. I’m sure he trying, but if Reed were a top 10 3 point shooter it would solve many of our problems.

It’s time to move Jabari to the corner on offense. Tell him to shoot wide open 3’s only. He thinks he’s Durant and mid range game just isn’t there. And oh yeah he’s trying to shoot his way through a horrific slump.

#1419

Embarrassing game all around. Getting outmuscled, outhustled and outrebounded by one of the worst teams in the league. Ime deserves a lot of heat.

I guess this is the dog days of January for the rockets. Obviously we’re gonna make some trades to upgrade just gonna be interesting on how many trades we make and who gets gone. Someone does that’s all I know. Brutal losses to shitty teams.

The only signifigant piece that Stone added at the trade deadline was Adams, who was a salary dump and out for the season. He built this roster and thought, yep, we don't need guards.

Fudged up not getting a PG.

I mean we had one, he just tore his ACL a couple of weeks before the season started.

We sucked without him last year, too.

I'm over Jabari at this point. He's a very overrated defender, and there's lots of players that can hit open 3s. He's stiff and not athletic enough for whatever reason.

If he needs to be involved in a trade to upgrade at another position, do it.

I mean FVV getting his knee blown out kind of fucked everything up and out of his control. But he did trade for KD. What we do right now before the trade deadline will say a lot. It’s who we give up and get back is what makes me curious. Like are we seriously gonna trade a Jabari smith and tari Eason for a true PG and another long 3 and D wing? If we are then who is available in a trade to even get.

#1431

Y'all need some home games and maybe a roster move. Team seems mentally exhausted - Eason going out again didn't help and then Sengun gets thrown in for another lineup change.

That's like 30m in salary, what PG would you target with that money? Also keep in mind if their contract is 2 or more years remaining, they will need to work with FVV in the lineup next year.

I would imagine they are shopping DFS and Capela to see who they could get for cheap, or under 10m. Maybe Schroeder would be an option, but there aren't a lot of game changers that will be available.

Yea that’s what I was asking. What’s even out there to get right realistically. I brought up Eason and smith because of what’s being said about them and Eason leaving after this season anyways.

Eason will be an RFA. Any offer he gets this off-season will be available for the Rockets to match and keep him. Teams can only offer him money from free cap space or an exception, so it limits his potential earnings. He may not even get an offer and just accept the QO from the Rockets for like 10m. Not a bad deal for the team either way, and it's what they should have done with Jalen Green.

Anyway, I don't think there is much they are gonna do, the field is truly wide open for anyone to have a Cinderella year with some luck like the Raptors did that one time. Should be less sellers this season, so I'm not sure there will be much available :(

#1435

Eason isn't getting anything significant because he can't stay on the court. He was stupid to turn down the Rockets' offer, it's doubtful he ever sees one that big again.

Need Cleveland to crater and grab Mitchell

ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported on The Hoop Collective that Houston offered Eason a deal with more than $100 million.

"From what I understand, they made Eason a strong offer," Windhorst said (19:20 mark). "It was in excess of $100 million. But I don't know how much of it would have been guaranteed, and they didn't do that deal."

ill be shocked if anyone offers him $100mil

#1438

He's hard to evaluate because of the injury concerns. If he was playing 75 games a year he'd be a $20M+/yr player easily.

Amen has always had that crazy streak. It's why he body slammed Herro. Etc etc. I don't mind it.

I'm talking about the awful turnovers and general WTF stuff on offense. Not his intensity or competitiveness.

The 3 point shooting is absolutely horrendous. Almost impossible to win NBA games like that.
