Your summarization is incomplete and the devil is in the details. Here is the full text of the compact: https://www.washingtonpost.com/documents/4059a5dd-f3dc-4cf6-bf1f-9e0d98c2f8d9.pdf?itid=lk_inlin

So nothing from Abbott?

he doesn't have to give public orders ....

from 2022

Members of the UT System Board of Regents donated $5.8 million to Gov. Greg Abbott’s gubernatorial campaigns, according to an analysis by The Texas Tribune.

Abbott appointed all 90 members currently serving on nine university system boards in Texas and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. More than 70% of these appointees donated money — with 30% donating over $100,000 — to the governor’s campaign since 2013, making up about 10% of Abbott’s total donations, according to the Tribune.

at the time, I couldn't imagine leaving Texas for Emory.

Now, I get it.

Or Embry-Riddle for that matter.

There’s most a split with the regents. I would guess they are just hoping that somehow there’s a TACO situation, however unlikely it might be.

Sure. But a couple are more powerful than he is in this state. Unfortunately, they side with trump.

If we are being fair, there’s no way Eltife could reach anyone else’s nuts to kick.

That is old, from the original announcement of the plan.  It's not acceptance/acquiescence.

You could almost interpret this both ways. He’s tweeting some old news that says that he’s not a member of the woke mob, to bolster his bona fides when he says no to Trump on this.

We must end indoctrination and return to fundamentals of education at all levels.

Also, please hang this poster of the 10 Commandments in every public school classroom from K-12.

Well good sir, there is nothing more fundamental than the Bible!

Yeah--it's today.

UT actually seems to be playing this exactly right.  Loudly express its willingness to sign up and appease Geriatric Joffrey while doing absolutely nothing to actually sign up, which would imperil its academic standing.

Today’s deadline is just to provide feedback on the compact. There is no deadline to sign. Yet.

You want us to go in together on a compact? Yeah, we can likely help with a down payment. You’re thinking what, a Civic? Corolla?

We are def gonna be the only ones to join from the initial group

There are probably heated emails and group texts being exchanged right now. Hopefully they get leaked to journalists or retrieved in a public record request

Agreed. I don’t know if it’ll hold up but I’d love for us to just ignore it. Abbott must feel immense pressure to not agree to it.

I don't think it's anyone's to agree to except President Jim Davis.

Obviously, Abbott, his handpicked BOR, the lege, and others are pressuring Davis from outside.  And students and faculty from below.  I don't think Davis gives a shit about students or faculty, that's not his remit.

But someone seems to understand that this will make us look like clowns.

davis's background ...

He worked as a briefing attorney for Alberto Gonzales onthe Supreme Court of Texas and spent 14 years practicing law for Locke Lord. He worked for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton as a deputy attorney general for civil litigation

I just canceled my monthly contributions to Texas Exes. UT can fuck itself. It no longer is the university I attended and instead had been taken over by maga.

Well, it seems we have more or less let the deadline pass (not sure the deadline really exists anymore).  Would be fascinating to know why given that the powers that be would all seem to be for gobbling the orange crank.

One thing I believe happens if they sign it;  people start to protest on campus again and then shit starts to spiral...and they have to know that.  On top of all the other shit they SHOULD already know seeing what has happened to other institutions across various disciplines that have capitulated.

Maybe they are trying to pull a JFK, where they just "ignore" the letter and talk about what they want to talk about.

Based on the “there are dozens of us” who showed up to the campus protest I know that I can buy mass hysteria in response

y'all are all whistling past the graveyard.  UT won't "bend at the knee".  UT will bend at the waist and spread it's cheeks for Donald J. Trump, because that's exactly what your governor wishes he could do personally.

Are you of the opinion that people are stating otherwise?
