You can get normal sms text. Just need to untoggle iMessage in settings and text work as normal. iMessage just routes all messages through apple server. Again if you don't plan on changing back and forth between Android and iphone on a regular basis, then use iMessage. I don't use it because I switch every few weeks, just cause.

why the fuck would you willingly switch to an iphone?

only manufacturer that will sell you a flagship phone that will fit in your pocket

Sony Xperia 5 iii also. But the last mainstream option died with the s10e, unfortunately.

Just remembered my biggest complaint about IOS. Iphones and ipads have tons of ads. I miss not being able to set my DNS to block ads. Even without dns blocking, my android phones and tablet have considerably fewer ads. You'll get used to it.

you can use adblock to do this i believe

do you know if it's system wide or only for browsers?

It's not system wide.

But I have never noticed a ton of ads everywhere like you mention.

I use Chrome and not Safari.  I don't notice ads being intrusive.  I also use google as my default search.

I have an interesting problem with my SE.  My camera view shakes like Michael J. Fox is holding the phone.  I can prop it up on a table with the camera on, and the image still "jiggles".

Apple says it's likely a faulty gyroscope, and they are shipping me a new phone.

Curious also about ads.

I can’t ever recall seeing ads pop up on my iPhone or iPad uses. I do use ad blockers for Safari. And certainly nothing outside of a web browser.

Sure you didn’t buy a knock off forked droid tablet to look like an iPad? [emoji1]

Webpages have tons of ads. Games have tons of ads. When you dns through Adguard, there are zero ads. None. Coming from that, when you see ads in almost every app, it's shocking.

Ahh… yeah I don’t see ads on webpages. But that makes sense on free to play games. Which I don’t play or typically pay for it to go away.

After the newest update I can no longer tap on the dots at the bottom of the home screen to switch pages, I have to swipe. Is that no longer possible?

From the first world problems department, anyone know why my animated gifs quit working? So far they’re done on iMessage and Facebook and I’m sure other places.

We are having that same issue. It must be something wrong with iMessage.

Anyone else having Bluetooth issues? Mine just started over the last couple weeks.
first issue: car Bluetooth randomly connects and disconnects. I do not have a CarPlay head unit (yet) so I have to rely on BT for calls and tunes.

second issue: similar to first, AirPods (2nd gen) keep dropping and reconnecting. Again, both issues only started over last couple weeks. Annoying as hell. Could it have something to do with the latest iOS update?

BT calls (only calls) in my 5 yr old Toyota have been a total bitch the last yr roughly

No problems here on 14pm

Switched from 14 Pro to 16 standard and…dang… this 60hz max refresh rate sucks.

Ordered online, never seen in person. I had 12Pro and 14Pro and thought the 16Pro would be physically larger (its not), and I never used any of the photographic  features on the Pros so I went standard.

Turns out you dont notice the 60Hz jerkiness when you upgrade to 120Hz ProMotion display. But you do notice jerkiness when you downgrade from it.

Kinda like watching the occasional standard def programming when youre used to 1080P.

Agree w/ @Handcruser - return the 16.  Since you do not really care about the photo features, the main differences between your 14pro and a 16 are:

  • 14pro: higher/variable refresh rate (you mentioned)
  • 16: USB-C vs. 14pro: lightning charging
  • 16: more base RAM
  • 16: slightly better battery life
  • 16: newer CPU
  • 16: 1 oz lighter

Here's a good summary of the differences...
https://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Apple-iPhone-14-Pro,Apple-iPhone-16,Apple-iPhone-16-Pro/phones/11766,12240,12239

The slightly lower weight actually does feel more comfortable for longer use, whereas the pro feels more premium and substantial.

Was looking forward to the Apple Intelligence features but so far its quite garbage.

Have not used anything where I can appreciate the 16’s higher horsepower, but the lower refresh thing is a constant reminder of the impression that it is slower (ie appears laggy).

I’ll just keep it around for a bit because it’s a free upgrade due to corp. cycle. Then I’ll give away one or the other to family.

My 14 pro max is has been mostly awesome since launch day. There does seem to be little hiccups and hangups that weren’t there even a few months ago and cynic in me can’t help but think “planned obsolescence” as we get closer to 17 launch. I really am a poster child for being addicted to a device so I’ll probably play right into it and buy the new one in September.

I’m subject to get 3 or 4 years from one before replacing it. I can’t imagine the weight being a factor in any type of decision or even be noticeable.

I have FirstNet with ATT and have a problem with SMS Text messaging. If I text and it says iMessage, the text sends fine. If it says SMS Text Messaging. I get an error where it adds a 1 before the number and says that it is an invalid number. If you look at the contact itself, there is no 1 before the number. Any clues?

I have an iPhone 16 that is updated to 18.6.1. I have an older Apple Watch that I refuse to replace because it works like a watch is supposed to.

Since Monday, my fitness app on the phone does not import my activities. No movement, exercise, or stands.

The watch is still measuring these.

They are connected via Bluetooth. All other apps still sync. Phone. iMessage. Email. Weather. Etc.

Does anyone else know a trick to resync the fitness app? The googles didn’t have ideas other than turn off/turn on.
