October 9Oct 9 The GOAT, can't wait. Guy is really something. If you included only his movies made in this century, he'd still probably be one of the all time greats. As an aside, ranking Marty movies is an impossibleexercise. My personal top ten (I think) is below, but it omits some absolutely stone cold classics. 1. Goodfellas 2. After Hours 3. Raging Bull 4. The Last Waltz 5. Wolf of Wall Street 6. Killers of the Flower Moon 7. Silence 8. Taxi Driver 9. King of Comedy 10. Casino
October 9Oct 9 Author It's as tough a task as naming your favorite song by the Stones in the Music thread (but Marty would almost surely go with Gimme Shelter).I've said before that Raging Bull is the very definition of perfection. Direction. Acting. Writing. Cinematography. Editing. Everyone was absolutely at the top of their game. But Rupert Pupkin may be even more damaged than Jake Lamotta. Or Travis Bickle.Maybe my favorite Marty quote ever was when a reporter asked him how the director of Goodfellas, Mean Streets, Raging Bull, etc could make a period piece like The Age of Innocence? His reply was "it's the most violent film I've ever made" or words to that effect. And he was right. If he never made a single movie he'd be a hero just for his film preservation efforts.
October 19Oct 19 Author Holy shit this is great stuff Yeah I binged the first 4 today & will fi ish it tomorrow. The shock on De Niro's face when he learns the inspiration for Johnny Boy was still alive was classic.
