October 10Oct 10 They really furked it on the 3-2-1 strategy. A petabyte is a shitload of data, but goddamn it's not THAT much. I've got 48TB of RAID storage, and that was just under a grand. A State could put together an offsite backup solution ricky-tick. Hell, get a Starcraft player on it to micromanage and it'll be done in record time

Hell, get a Starcraft player on it to micromanage and it'll be done in record time I've got a 24TB RAID setup in my house for stuff I give a shit about (I also have a 2x12TB RAID setup for basically scratch disks/downloads/etc. that I don't care about), but my most important stuff (family photos, work, etc.) are also backed up to a few different services. And occasionally I back up my local data to a couple of large drives and store those elsewhere (away from my house). It's pretty insane how much they are struggling to recover. I would also imagine that if they have over 900 people working to restore stuff, that they are getting in each other's way.
October 13Oct 13 When we opened up the business, quite a few years ago - 1 guy made a backup every Friday and took it home. Brought the previous week's to work on Monday and put it on top of the server. Worst case, we'd lose a week of work. Ah, the simple days.
