October 16Oct 16 Popular Post G'day Texas Nation How about them sooners!! 🫣 I'm bringing the family over next month for the Arky game and as we are from Australia I would appreciate any recommendations to do on game day. Including the easiest way to get to and from the stadium (downtown). Is it walkable? As we will be there for 3 nights, I would also appreciate any must do things in Austin and any awesome places to eat and drink. 🍻 I've had a look at ticket prices, there is currently some lower bowl for around $300. Would you expect this to drop closer to game day? Cheers for your help, we are so pumped! Hook em!!
October 16Oct 16 Don't know about all the logistics for your situation, but put Texas Chili Parlor, Matt's El Rancho, The Tavern, Crown and Anchor, the Cloak Room, and Scholtz Garten on your dance card for your trip to Austin.
October 16Oct 16 I’ve walked to the stadium from downtown before. 20 blocks uphill. Surely it’s worth it to uber it.

They will either freefall collapse by gameday or they will go up from here as people get excited about the team again. $300 each is not a bad deal. So some musts on your trip: Tex-Mex (Matt's El Rancho, Maudies, Polvos all near downtown) Texas BBQ (Surly Tailgate or LA BBQ/Franklins if you order now online) Check out "Dirty 6th" (under 21 allowed on streets go from 7-9PM) See some live music (https://www.acllive.com/event/2025-11-21-the-damn-torpedoes-a-tribute-to-tom-petty-and-the-heartbreakers-at-8-pm or keep an eye on the Moody Amphitheater calendar. https://www.moodyamphitheater.com/) Check out Zilker Park/Town Lake/Auditorium Shores (rent a bike and go around the hike and bike) ------------------ Everything else is pretty optional and choose your own adventure but I would plan my itinerary around those core things. As for getting to campus and out, if you don't buy parking the best option is to uber to the north side of the stadium off Dean Keaton and Robert Dedman (snarfs sandwiches) and walk right into the tailgate area, longhorn city limits and bevo blvd where the players and bevo walk into the stadium. Its walkable to the southside of the stadium but its a shitshow and there's nothing really going on over there except sholtz beer garden which is a bar style tailgate with about a 12 minute walk to the stadium after. You will want to go inside the stadium probably an hour before kick to check it all out and get to your seats with time to get comfortable and settled in. Going in your assigned gate is optional, it doesn't save much time. After the game it is good to stay through "The Eyes of Texas" especially if you aren't driving, then it clears out and you can walk out the north side for more beers at tailgate or walk out the south side to get easy access to downtown - probably best to walk the 15-20 minutes back because uber and traffic are nuts and it's optimized for foot-traffic to the garages downtown. (Pedicab could be clutch here too) You want more specific recommendations or like a more degenerate experience let me know.

October 16Oct 16 @Hookemaussie who is your AFL side? where do you live in Australia? are you flying QF7 SYD-DFW? is austin one destination as part of a larger us itinerary? please share your flight details and dates of arrival/departure
October 16Oct 16 I’ll second the recommendation of Scholz Garten. It’s always mispronounced as “Schlotz’s”. Known as the oldest bar in Texas, it’s been a game day tradition for ages. The food options are heavily German, but the establishment was founded by German immigrants. Germany produced the 3rd highest immigrant group in Texas behind Anglos and Mexicans.

October 16Oct 16 Get to the game at least 3 hrs early and enjoy Bevo Blvd or buy tickets to the Surly tailgate. Try a good south Texas breakfast taco in the morning. Matt’s is awesome and has a large parking lot but it can still get crowded. Dirty Martins is a staple near campus for great bar food and laid back atmosphere, Posse East is another old school Austin bar(some food) to have a few beers and meet some locals. Going to Scholz is never a bad choice either.

Hope you have a great visit.
