October 28Oct 28 This most likely could have all been avoided if dipshit just walks Ohtani in the 7th like a non dumbass would have
October 28Oct 28 Went to bed during the 9th and woke up to the realization that I missed a whole 2nd baseball game lol
October 28Oct 28 Water cooler talk this A.M., we were discussing the length of the game. I brought up "about 6-8 years ago Texas played Boston College in the regionals and it went 25 innings." I think it ended around 2A. Nope, that was 2009. IM OLD.
October 28Oct 28 An 18-inning game in the last stretch of an at least three-round playoff march after a 162-game season? Fuck all that. Gimme Manfred-ball in extras. No one needed that shit last night. I gave up after 12. No wonder the players are going to sit out '27. They need the rest.

October 28Oct 28 Hall of Famers featured in last night's game Shohei Ohtani- what else can be said Clayton Kershaw- clutch relief appearance in extras with the bases loaded Max Scherzer- started gave 4 strong left with a lead Mooke Betts Freddy Freeman- Mr Walk off George Springer- injured in the 6th inning Vladdy- has a way to go in his career but one of the biggest stars in the game. People will remember this legendary postseason made two legendary plays in the field and on the bases Will Smith- maybe?

Due probably mostly to the pitch clock, the 18 inning game played at Dodger Stadium in the 2018 was 20 minutes longer than this one.
October 28Oct 28 I dunno who’s responsible for the organ at Dodger Stadium, but they’re always on it with some wild shit. Would be a fun atmosphere.

I don't discount the drama and the intrigue, but holy shit, let's have some compassion for the dudes playing the game. 6+ hours on a baseball field and 609 pitches isn't good for anyone. If your game requires that to determine a winner, you need to revisit the rules of the game. The rest of the series is now fucked because of an idiotic desire to cling to "tradition."

Lets not further dilute the rare things/moments that make baseball awesome. And if you think the series is "fucked", then I truly dont know what to tell you. I realize your Dodger hate is clouding your judgment, but my guess would be we get another awesome game/performance tonight.
October 28Oct 28 The series is fucked because both teams emptied out the bullpens in Game 3 and pushed relievers longer than they are conditioned to go. Starters need to be lights out or we are going to get a watered down product from the bullpens for the rest of the series. They will not be at their best. It will probably be fine from an entertainment standpoint, but it is no longer a showcase of the best in the game. I don't deny my Dodger hate - it keeps me warm at night - but it does not cloud my judgment on this at all.

After 9, the teams should have a home run contest to settle the game. Stupid take. This is the most true form of deciding a game. Win the damn game playing it the same fucking way you played for 9 innings. Basketball has no issues with that. Soccer basically has a free throw contest to settle overtime. NFL has it mostly right. College football OT is stupid.

The dudes who these teams rely on daily--or close to it--pitched their normal inning or two max. It was the rarely used guys that we might not have otherwise seen in this series that got stretched. Obviously, if Yamamoto had to come in and throw 3 innings in a 21 inning game, it's a different story. But that's not what happened. Edited October 28Oct 28 by aggie08

Extra inning games and managing of bullpens and rosters in a 7 game series just adds another dynamic to the game of baseball. No baseball player has ever complained about "over time" in baseball. These guys play a bazillion games a season. It's fucking baseball.

It's not like it happens very often. only 14 post season games have ever gone to even 14 innings. It is happening more often recently due to more post season games but it is still rare funny stat as a set up, last nights game was 6hr 39min, the 14 inning game in 2004 with Red Sox Yankees ALCS went 5hr 49min in a 5-4 game. thank you pitch clock. the longest post season game for 70 years was 14 innings 1916 between Brooklyn Robins and the Red Sox. game time 2hr and 32min. Babe Ruth went all 14 after giving up 1 in the first he pitched 13 scoreless for the win. 2-1. Ruth also had the RBI for the first Red Sox run to tie it.

October 28Oct 28 Manfred ball sucks ass in regular season and would really suck ass in playoffs. Give me last night drama or Roger Clemens coming into relief and Chris Burke walking it off, or Game 5 2017 WS etc. over manfred ball every day

One way to mitigate that is to allow for a roster addition following a game of x innings or more. In assume the dodgers get to carry one extra pitcher since their DH happens to also be a SP.
October 28Oct 28 Exactly. That is the fix not the bullshit beer league softball shit. Just allow them to add a pitcher....or two idgaf....each.

October 28Oct 28 Author Was listening to Scheider's postgame presser and a reporter asked "not to give away secrets, but are you planning to walk Ohtani most AB's going forward (sic)?" Schneider (without hesitation)- "Yes" So first AB in the first inning, you start off by putting the leadoff batter on?

October 28Oct 28 I’m in favor of a swing-off after the 12th. It’s wildly popular with the Bananas and Manfred has brought it up on some podcasts. Soccer has it right with PKs, there’s almost no comparable amount of stress or intensity in sports. This would give us the baseball version of that. Instead we get viewership numbers tanking inning by inning last night and 2 completely fucked pitching staffs the rest of the series.
