October 24Oct 24 I’m going for the Dodgers but was in Toronto earlier this year, walked the Skydome neighborhood, and found this awesomeness at the fan shop.
October 24Oct 24 Don't really give a shit if it isn't the Astros playing, but I am going to tune in for the Ohtani show.

Back in the days of having to throw the pitches, it wasn't unusual that the pitcher would intentionally walk someone and then have a hard time finding the strike zone against the next hitter. In what was one of the dumber decisions I've ever seen a manager make, I saw a manager bring in a reliever when the starter was clearly done. So what does the manager do? He has the reliever issue an intentional walk to the first batter he faces. And then the reliever couldn't find the strike zone against the next two hitters -- gave up two unintentional walks, one of which walked in a run. If you were gonna intentionally walk the next hitter, why not just have the starter finish out his game by throwing four soft-tosses three feet off the plate, and *then* bring in the reliever? Maybe the reliever would have been wild anyway, but having to throw his first four pitches way off the plate certainly didn't help him. I've also seen a pitch intended to be part of an intentional walk mistakenly thrown too close to the plate and hammered for a hit similar to what Atwood did for the Lady Horns in the last WCWS. Or

I had the day off and the Japanese tourist contingent is full up on LA hats here. Incredible to see how a country gets behind one athlete like this. I am sure there are Yamamoto and Sasaki fans as well, but this one guy added a country to the fanbase.

I can’t wait to see the Japanese ratings in game 4, or whenever Shohei starts, especially if the dodgers run out to 3-0 lead

The Jays have some great storylines on their side, too. Gibson finally making it to a WS. The Yesavage kid, who started the year in single-A ball, making the Game1 start. First WS for the club since Joe Fuckin' Carter. The only MLB team from Canada, energizing yet another entire country. This WS could be really, really fun. I'll have it on tonight.

There are all sorts of ways that making 'em actually throw the pitches can affect the game. I realize they changed the rule to speed up the game, but the old IBBs didn't take that much time. They should go back to the way it used to be done. Edited October 24Oct 24 by Carl Spackler

That makes the ones that did happen noticeable, but in the grand scheme they determined that the vast majority of the time the guy just walked as intended so why waste the time? I don't really miss it.

I don't really miss it. Then I must have seen a significant percentage of the "vanishingly small" number of those incidents. I also suspect that those stats didn't include instances in which the pitcher who issued the IBB then had trouble finding the strike zone against the next hitter or two because it would be difficult to actually prove a connection between the two. But having seen it happen more than once, I'm pretty confident that there was something about having to throw 4 lollipops well off the plate that occasionally had an effect on the pitcher's ability to then hone back in on the strike zone with actual pitches against the next hitter. For me, the current rule doesn't speed the game up that much (certainly not like the pitch clock does) because the old IBB didn't take that much time. But I don't harbor much (well, any, really) hope that they'll change the rule back. Just me shaking my fist at clouds at this point.

October 24Oct 24 No one expected Toronto to make it here but the Dodgers are the Dodgers. Give me LA in 6.

October 25Oct 25 I’m going for the Dodgers because the Tulsa Drillers are their AA affiliate and Ohtani is fun to watch. But it’s not an emotional attachment and I’m a fan of the City of Toronto and was there not too long ago around the Skydome and bought the Joe Carter shirt (posted above) so it’ll be cool if they win

October 25Oct 25 Close. Good points being made here, if the Jays can turn these Dodgers 7 and 8 inning starts into 5 they can do damage against the pen.
October 25Oct 25 Pretty big to get out of that only giving up 1 run, but looking a little A ball early.
