Short of a full on meltdown, he's certainly earned the rigt to lead the program and try to take that last step for the foreseeable future. That said, to me it seems obvious his flaws as a coach will hold us back from going from the top 5-10 level squads he's put together the past couple years to winning a NC, and I think last year may be the closest we ever get to a SEC title under him too (very light 8 game league schedule that will never be replicated). If some NFL team wants to give us a get out of Sark free card and we have a chance to hire someone better suited for the task at hand now, which is different from the task at hand in 2021 when Sark was hired given the stateof the program, I'd bsolutely take that. This happens all the time in sports, by the way. Richt to Smart for a potent CFB example. Some coaches are able to work bad teams into good or even very good ones but sometimes another coach is best suited to elevate a team to championship level. Mack won because Vince. Ed won because Burrow. Chizik because with Cam. There are only a handful of coaches who won because they are fucking amazing coaches. Saban, old Carroll, and anyone who who coaches at tOSU are the only few who fit that category. Luck seems to be just as important as coaching acumen. Edited October 27Oct 27 by crash_davis
October 27Oct 27 To whatever degree wikipedia can be trusted, which is oftent "not much" but in this case "probably", it's pretty clear Sark was the USC QB coach and Kiffin was the OC. Play-calling duties are more of an unknown. As noted above, Sark takes the blame for 4th and 2 but that doesn't mean much.

Mack & staff recruited VY and ultimately made the decision to stop trying to force things and "let Vince be Vince," as has been repeated so often repeated over the years. If Sark had a 20 year old VY on the roster, do you think he'd adapt and let Vince be Vince, or would he keep trying to fit a square peg in a round hole? We all know the answer because we've seen it and continue to see it. Edited October 27Oct 27 by gmr548

October 27Oct 27 There's a big difference between Sark leaving for a job in the NFL vs being fired. Seems like a lot of people on here want him fired, which is ridiculous for so many reasons. For the Texas football program going forward, Sark should not be fired based on his performance so far. But a lot of people are wondering what a different coach might be able to maximize from these players, which accomplishes the same thing without the downsides of firing Sark.

October 27Oct 27 I don’t want Sark fired. Not just because it pisses me off that people get paid generational life changing money to fuck off. He took a shit approach to the entire offseason imo and it’s shown itself to be 💯 true on the field. he has not as far as I know done anything to warrant being fired whatsoever. Unless he did nothing in the offseason and was waiting around for the call from the NFL. Also, Even if people don’t like or watch the NFL it doesn’t mean that Sark doesn’t want to go there. He’s said in black and white the NFL is the pinnacle of his profession. I’m mad because he took a shit approach to the offseason. Things he had done up through January 2025 were WORKING and he chucked what was working and went with an NFL pro style offseason approach. We have discussed painfully his play calling in that he won’t play to the strengths of what he has to unless forced. Like break glass in case of an emergency offense: see Mississippi State 4th Quarter. Dude is talented but he created a hole for the team before the season even started. Doesn’t mean we are not capable of winning out. And he will likely take his presser today to say “fuck all you gossips and haters and surly.” Fine. I do think all the major P5 schools need to meet and push back against these ridiculous fucked up contracts. Period. It is out of control. I hope Sark can use his “break glass only in case of emergency” offense the rest of the way forward. At the end of the day, I bleed burnt orange. I care about the school, the team and the players and winning. I am not tethered to a particular HC. I’m not ready to chuck his ass out but I’m also not ready to build his ass a statue either. If the NfL comes calling for the HC job he wants it is my assumption he will take it. Fine. also, Coach O is awesome but it doesn’t mean I want that guy. October 27Oct 27 Sark is being paid tens of millions and his NIL support is top 5 in the country. Possibly better. Its not that his personal life might be affecting his job performance, its that it has already affected it so much we have wasted a season.
