My youngest two kids are 21 and 22, and over the years since they graduated high school I been divesting myself of holidays.  Last year I told them that I wasn’t celebrating Christmas, and that they should spend it with their mom.  That left Thanksgiving as the only holiday left for me.  Thanksgiving was really my favorite holiday anyway.  As long as I can remember, the whole family has gathered up at the ranch for a few days to celebrate Thanksgiving.  The family is pretty much split down the middle politically, but for the most part Thanksgiving has remained civil and apolitical.  However, that has now ended for me.  A few weeks ago my two sisters were at my mom’s house (I’m pretty much responsible now for her care) a they had a pretty disparaging conversation about LGBTQ+ (of course they used different terms) and I pretty much let them have it about what evil people they were.  Last week one of them was back over at mom’s house and apologized by telling me she was willing to overlook my son’s faults (he’s gay) because he’s family.  I just told her that she should probably leave. So I have now told my brother that I would drop my mom off at the ranch, but that I wouldn’t be staying and someone else will need to make the dressing.  I told my kids to plan on pending the holiday with  their mom’s family.  So I guess it’s just going to be me and the dogs now. I’m not sure what I’m going to cook for us.

How big of her, ‘Christian’ right?
Sorry Man, family can suck worse than friends.

I get along great with my inlaws, even though they're aggies, they're just really wonderful people.  So normally I just get to enjoy this thread and laugh at all of your poor bastages that have psychotic families.

But this year, is different.

This year, the aggies are going to be 11-0 and undefeated.

And I can already feel a difference in the tone of conversations.

On top of that, it's my turn to host the extended family.  Ever since my parents starting getting older, we started rotating between their house, and my siblings' and my houses.  So every 4 years, it's my turn.  And also, when it's my turn, we also host my wife's aggie family.

So yeah.  26 people in my house. 6 kids, 3 teenagers, and the rest adults.

I'm really REALLY hoping I'll be able to stay out of this thread and use it for reading purposes only.  Fingers crossed...

My in-laws (who are retired) are not coming to visit their grandchildren over Thanksgiving BECAUSE THEY AGREED TO WATCH SOMEBODY ELSE'S DOG.

That way, the owner of the other dog can go visit her grandchildren over Thanksgiving.

I personally don't care because my MIL fucking sucks, but it's sad for me to see how it affects my wife. My kids are totally over it, so I don't have to go to war at least.

Do they need any help?  Would send my MIL in a heartbeat.

Safe travels to those of you hitting the roads/airports/bus depots/wagon trains today. Don't fuck this up by getting in a wreck.

I was in the office at 5am this morning (my birthday) to see the most glorious sight: out of office notifications by at least 90% of the leadership team. I'll get more stuff done uninterrupted before noon than I normally do in a full week. Then it's home to brine a turkey and enjoy a pizza and some beers plus a beej from my wife. Well, 2 of the 3 might happen.

Still on an antibiotic for an upper respiratory infection, so no drinking this entire week 😭.  Woke up this morning to this...Well, at least it gets me out of xtra in-law time today....

My MIL is here for tonight and tomorrow night. Dementia is kicking her ass pretty bad, and it’s not going well.

A couple times this evening she was convinced my wife wasn’t her daughter. Told the wife later, “looks like it’s strange on the menu tonight!”

What can ya do but see the humor? The alternative sucks.

You should have said "Mmmmmm...strange" in Homer Simpson's voice.

So one my coworkers(and good friend) got a call from his girlfriend last night when we were closing up the bar. She was hysterical. Long story short, he told me today that apparently last night when he was at work, she went out drinking with some friends, got way too fucked up, floored her car, almost hit a pedestrian and side swiped a car and then while in the neighborhood trying to park in front of their house, she put it in reverse and floored the gas, thus backing up into the neighbor's yard and hitting their house causing cracks and lots of damage. She also was in possession of a hefty amount of weed in her car when the cops arrested her. So now she's been in holding at Dallas county jail for over 14 hours(saw the judge this afternoon)with a misdemeanor charge and my friend is gonna have to drop 500 bucks to bail her out either tonight or tomorrow morning. Happy Thanksgiving!

Can't do that. They have a kid together. Thank God the boy is at the grandparents house while this shit happened.

Watching the Weather Channel this morning it looks like the midwest and Great Lakes area are taking a wallop. 3" - 10" of snow and high winds. Nothing like some white knuckle driving to get to the family feast.

Meanwhile I've got an unnecessary fire going just so the cat can look cute sleeping in front of it.

All fires are necessary. If only for meditation.

My whole family drove 5 hrs to spend Thanksgiving at the in-laws. All my MIL has done is complain about how much she hated cooking. I’m trying to convince my wife that we’d be doing her mom a favor by not coming. My kids spend the whole time hiding upstairs to avoid the complaints.

It sucks.  I'm sorry.  I truly am sorry.

One of my WORST Thanksgiving memories is my MIL walking through her brother's house and seeing me in the living room and she went to my wife, "Who is that man in the living room?"  There were other times that she would be in the room and think we were all the grown ups from when she was a kid, and in her mind, she was a little girl.  Still other times, later; she had no recollection of any of us.  She was beautiful, gentle, gracious woman who was the rock for so many others...only for this disease to ravage her mind while her body still thrived.

I've said since her battle with Alzheimers that I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, and certainly not on those we love.  It is such a wicked disease, and dementia is similar in that respect.

Go outside and play football.  Tear up the yard.  Maybe break a window...

My friend's husband brought his own towel.

I was reppin with a Longhorn cap. Of course the aggy there asked me how tu was gonna do. I just replied that I dont know what that or aggy is.

Put my cap on one of the red asses and tried for a selfie but he was too squirrely.

We're going to need an updated on the aggy entitlement attitude.

I have this one cousin who never knows that it’s time to gtfo and go home. Everyone else could be gone for hours.

They were really well behaved, no drama yesterday.

But I definitely WON'T be watching the game with them tonight.

Oh, I was away from the lunatic brigade by that point.

Thursday was exactly what you think it was.  They should have been #1 due to their strength of schedule (lulz).  Refs helped us not lose to Miss St and Kentucky because ESPN loves Texas (megalulz).  Beating tu made it into the blessing of the meal, with multiple whoops.  Etc.

I think this really settles the whole nature/nurture thing.  Because I share DNA with these people, and I turned out smart and well-adjusted, and look at these freaks.

You lost me here lol

We had my wife's family over for dinner on T+1 (my side of the family comes on Thursday). I forgot her uncle and aunt both went to A&M for grad school so they were rooting for Aggy. Being 70+ YO Taiwanese immigrants, they didn't care too much about the game, but just stared at me when I proposed a toast after the 'horns won.
