If Florida loss wouldn’t have happened I’d have been Nostradamus and not Nostradumbass. 1 game. Not really all that far off. Really, we needed up in the place I thought we would either a team that was pretty clearly a top 5 or so type team and arch being a stud and the team being fine- it just fucking took sark 6 weeks longer to get there than I thought it would- and the Florida loss happened. I even conceded in the moment that we were probably going to be dogs to and lose to Georgia.

So you were basically a Florida loss away from being correct?

i…completely agree with mack brown?

Me too. And I wanna throw up saying that

Just expand to 16 teams.

That won’t do anything but push the problem farther back in the standings.

So instead of arguing if a 3 loss team is deserving of a spot in a 12 team field, the argument will be if a 4 loss team is deserving of a spot in a 16 team field.

and before anyone says “a 4 loss team has no right to argue for inclusion in a playoff for a national championship” a lot of folks said the same thing when it was a 4 team playoff when teams ranked 5-8 were complaining.

seriously, would a 4 loss Texas team this year (with losses to, say tOSU, Florida, Georgia and either ou or A&M) be deserving of a 16th spot over 3 loss Michigan, USC, Arizona, Houston, or Georgia Tech? What if the 4 were tOSU, UGA, ou and A&M?

idk the answer but I do know we’d have all of these same arguments just with one extra L in everyone’s loss column.

youre right GIF

In other words moving to 16 without actually changing how the committee, bids, and selection works just leads to more of the same . there is a bit of transparency and structural problems here at play that needs to be resolved, or you know maybe its the point

The committee needs to be stat nerds who can actually interpret the data. It’s a bunch of crusty old fucks or entrenched ADs with agendas.

Id rather have 12 MBAs arguing over SOS, SOR, game control, etc.

Probably 90% of the board had us 10-2 with losses to OSU and UGA.  Leave it to wulaw to make it all about himself.

This.  I don't see why people think expanding the field will fix the problem.  It's like saying there's too much traffic on I-10 so let's just make more lanes (what up Katy).

Expanding the field absolutely fixes the problem though. We went from 2 to 4 to 12. Get it even higher and the playoff committee becomes meaningless as any good team is getting in.

Your post launching this thread had nothing to do with arguing against doomsday predictions that we would crater.  You specifically predicted that a 9-3 Texas team (meaning one more loss, presumably to UGA or A&M) would not keep us out of the playoffs.  You even called people "mongoloids" for thinking a 10-2 Miami team might get in over a 9-3 Texas team.

Well, look where we are, and who is the likelier "mongoloid"?

Yes.  While everyone else was predicting somewhere between 5-7 and 7-5 all over the place.  That's what's wild.  Me- we are going to win like 10 games and be favored in all but georgia. Reality, we won 9 games and were favored in all but georgia and aggy.

Everyone else.  Hurr durr we are going to win 5 or 6, 7 absolute max and you are a fucking idiot.

We go 9-3 and I'm way closer to reality than the people who were the reason I started the thread- boy aren't you a fucking idiot. You missed out by 1 whole game.

GO read that thread again.  There were all sorts of predictions of 5-7 to 7-5. Not even remotely close to what the prevailing opinion was on this team in September.  Leave it to fudge to distort reality to take a pot shot. ALso- if you don't like it don't click on the thread I started. Oh noes, I post essentially on a thread on mortgage, the Astros threads and a couple threads I start which has my opinions on it that I talk about with other people. I probably have posted on less than 10 threads I haven't created in 6 months.  What an attention whore!

That's not lost on me, but try reading things a bit yourself.  You called people "mongoloids" for thinking 10-2 Miami might be ahead of 9-3 Texas.  Care to address my fucking point?

People said the same thing after Georgia last year. This board is, uh, reactionary to say the least.

We are the biggest name on the bubble and bitching about whether we should be a 12th seed or not.  News flash, this isn't a new problem to college playoffs.  The 65th team in the men and women's NCAA basketball tournament has had similar gripes for a long ass time.

The players and coaches kind of fucked around for a big part of the year.  Now they are finding out.  Don't do your best Amber Heard impersonation against a Florida on your schedule, and this is a non issue.  I kind of think it's in this program's best interests for players and coaches to have to learn that lesson vs be absolved from it.  Don't just show up next year ill prepared for the first half of the season and you won't have to degrade yourself whining for a spot at the end of it.  It will have been earned on the field.

And before you neg my ass for being right, realize that by assuming Texas is out, I probably just guaranteed the committee of dunces will find a way to put them in.  You are welcome.

The committee will never become meaningless. The committee only becomes meaningless when there isn’t one; when a structure of divisions or conferences is setup with everyone understanding black and white wins and losses criteria before the first snap of fall practice.

Hours and hours are spent every March arguing about decisions the basketball committee makes about teams slotted ~64th-72 (likely soon to be expanded to ~96-100). And every so often one of those last teams in ( #11 seed NC State in 2024, #11 seed Virginia Commonwealth in 2011) makes it to within arms reach of playing for the championship.

So if BYU and Alabama gets blown out, do we have any chance of getting in?

Who actually knows...I've seen media types discussing if Vandy would be in after this weekend.

BYU just needs to lose. Bama gets blown out, we have a shot. Both happen, we're in.

The SEC may also have discussed with CFP committee that it would not object hugely if Ole Miss gets dumped because HC, OC and staff all gone... you know, so the kids wouldn't get embarrased (citing FSU precedent).

Listen close - Fat Lady's warming up in her dressing room, ghastly scales zooming up and down. Get ready...

I am ready to be hurt again

Our odds to make the playoff, let alone win the championship, are off the board. Unlike North Texas, Tulane, James Madison, BYU, Duke, Virginia, Utah, and Miami.

IMG_1660.gif.f1852cf6267a3bf676753f18cbd15e9a.gif

It's bullshit but the rankings Tuesday really don't give us a path to get in.

The committee moved Ole Miss up after losing Kiffin...they aren't being dropped out.  OU was ahead of us.  They aren't dropping below us.  ND/Miami ahead of us, neither plays, they aren't dropping below us.  BYU drops with a loss, Bama probably does with a blowout loss but that's not enough thanks to the stupid G5 bullshit and the conference champion rules.

The committee has destroyed all incentive for CFP contenders to schedule OOC games with other CFP contenders and I expect contenders to act accordingly, and swiftly.

I'm just glad CDC came out and said we are playing all the games and will schedule more.  Now it is on him to make sure he has a coach that can win those games so we make the playoff.  If we don't our coach needs to be fired and if he won't then he needs to be fired. It is the way it should work. Time to ride.

When/where did he say this?

I don’t think he thought we would be getting left out of the playoffs with 3 top 10 wins in favor of Tulane in February. Sarks comments suggest they will be reevaluating at the least.

I guess we will see.  he was pretty damn adamant that it was great for the sport, and I assume 1 season wouldn't change his mind.

Yea I mean hopefully we just natty+Heisman next season and start talking big shit again

Just say losing to a team like Florida and barely scraping out wins against a couple other Floridaesque teams you play eliminates you.

That's it.

Texas draws insane TV coverage. I still don't put it past the committee to weasel us in somehow.

Bama lost to Florida state and barely scraped out a win against Auburn so those qualifiers don’t work, and that’s not even mentioning Miami.
