Holy shit you dipshits: 9-3 Texas is probably in the playoffs

Featured Replies

I always hold out hope for any scenarios that benefit us, if for no other reason than to give me more rooting interests each Saturday.

But while the SEC has a good chance to get five teams in as things stand, Texas getting the nod as that fifth team is very questionable with the blowout loss to UGA.

Even if we got back to fifth in the SEC pecking order by winning out and OU and Vandy losing, we’d still have to contend with a single extra at-large bid from the ACC, B1G, or Big 12. Potential two-loss teams Miami, GT, USC/Oregon, Michigan, BYU/Tech, and even Utah would have an argument over 9-3 Texas.

At this point I just want A&M and OU to be eliminated in as agonizing fashion as possible.

We didn't blow out any good teams.

Our 4th quarter defensive lapses were alarming in the big games and otherwise.

We didn't do anything that screams "we belong". We simply did "just enough" to squeak by and get a decent bowl game.

All we have left is to hope we don't enter a trap game vs. Arkansas.
And that we pull out a miracle against an A&M team with more confidence than talent.

Because let me tell you - we lack edge & confidence this year. Partly because of poor game planning, I'd assume. And partly because of an unexpectedly poor start to the year.

Every time I see someone say something like this I think "you're talking about top 4 and top 12 is what matters".

With the ACC champ and the G5 team getting in we’d likely need to be top 10.

aggy is in unless they get ass-raped by both us and their SEC Championship game opponent - Ole Miss or UGA.

Because I mistakenly overlooked them? FWIW, I think both A&M and Ole Miss will be ranked higher at year's end.

I believe Alabama is automatically in if they beat Auburn, and eliminated if they lose.

I like that our ticker is SHAT X

Bama, Georgia, and Ole Miss would all have the tiebreaker over aggy if all 4 finish 7-1. If Texas wins on Black Friday, aggy has to hope Bama and Ole Miss slip up as UGA already finished SEC play at 7-1. In other words, Texas beating aggy would almost assuredly keep aggy out of the SECCG.

Correct, and I think Alabama could beat A&M.

I hope they get boat raced. Largest losing margin in playoff history. 77-0 type game.

There’s delusion and then there’s thinking anm isn’t a lock for cfp. Good lord a reg season one loss sec team isn’t missing the cfp.

price should have been tree fiddy

Texas' path to the 10th spot and playoff birth

Needs:

  • Finish 9-3 with wins over Arky and Aggy
  • Move up 7 spots and get to the 10th seed to avoid ACC and G5 champs

Teams that can still drop enough for Texas to jump.

#8 Oklahoma- Games vs Mizzou and LSU. Need 1 loss here

#9 Notre Dame- Syracuse is the only game left they could lose.

#10 Alabama- A loss in the iron bowl to Auburn is always a possibility. A SECCG loss does nothing for us unless it is a major blowout.

#11 BYU- Cincinnati is their final test this weekend. Would need this or a Tech blowout in the Big 12 championship.

#12 Utah- Finishes with the Kansas schools who are both down this year. Need 1 of 2.

#13 Miami- Pitt in the final week is the final hope. Likely out of the ACC championship so would be an at large competitor to ND if both finish 10-2

#14 Vandy- Tennessee in the final week looms large. A 10-2 Vandy and 9-3 Texas would be a tough convo for the committee who seems to not care about H2H this year.

#15 USC- A loss to Oregon tomorrow does the trick. If USC wins tomorrow then they will be the leader in the clubhouse over Texas.

#16 Georgia Tech- With an almost certain loss to Georgia they will need to win the ACC to get in.

I feel we will move a minimum of 2 spots with the Vandy H2H and a likely loss for USC this weekend. Miami and OU could easily lose one more. Utah should win out but they have been middling most weeks.

This entire thread is wishcasting.

@Sir Ulrich has summarized how UT could still sneak into the CFB Playoff and, yes, it would take aggy getting blown out by UT and their SECCG opponent. Both outcomes are highly unlikely.

They wont be in the seccg with a loss to Texas so they are locked in unless they lost tomorrow. I did this exercise and it would take some 2007 level insanity to happen for the next 10 days for this to even get close to happening.

Sark is subject to treat Arkansas like a scrimmage, sort of like he did Florida. We all know how that went.

Huh? Something specific about Florida and Arkansas that doesn't apply to any of the other teams on the schedule?

Or, maybe Sark is just avoiding aggy having film on the advanced shit we have saved for them?

Where in the fuck is this confidence coming from? Our defense is melting down and Arkansas shows up against good teams. Are you just extremely confident that we’ll definitely win a 1-score game?

Yeah, I didn't bother trying to figure out the SECCG scenarios bc we ain't playing in it.

I think preferable for aggy to be ranked high regardless.  Games did not break well for us at all last weekend (especially ours with the margin of defeat) so agreed with the consensus very unlikely can squeeze in even if we win out.   I think the best path might actually be Auburn beating Bama (which isn't impossible). I think we would slot above Bama if so.  But in that scenario, even if Vandy wins out, Texas has a top 5 win against Aggy, top 8 win against OU, top 14 win against Vandy with losses to probably #1 and #3 or #4 (assuming UGA beats GT) + FL.  As I stated earlier in this thread I think, I would absolutely love for the committee to be in a scenario where they have to choose between a 2 loss Vandy and 3 loss Texas for the final spot just to see what they would do.  Either they take Texas and piss the rest of the Texas hating world or tell all of CFB you should not schedule tough OOC games (in direct conflict with message TV wants them to send).  That would be fascinating to me and I think they take Texas.   I don't think this is a playoff worthy team but all things being equal would love to see a scenario where we get a shot vs. a meaningless bowl game.

I'm gonna add one more.

#6 Ole Miss- if they lose the egg bowl and Kiffin leaves the next day the committee may Florida State them and leave them out.

For those who still care GT losing today does nothing for us unless Miami loses 1 more or sneaks into the championship game.

what about BYU losing ot Cincy?

We're done, but should we somehow beat Aggy, we can make the committee think about it. That's as close as we are getting.  We might somehow move up to #15 this week, but that is not close enough, imo.

Bottom line is don't lose a conference game by double-digits in November. Or lose to an also-ran like UF...ever.

The worst part about that Florida loss is they are just mailing it in now. Getting stomped at every turn. But the announcers make sure to point that out every chance they get. This Florida team beat Texas. No, the team that beat Texas has hung it up.

Beat A&M. Nothing else matters.

Look let's be honest. We're not that good of a team and that's the bottom line. If we somehow slipped in it would be bullshit and we all would know it. And we sure as fuck aren't going to win the national title. Just beat A&M and call it a year. Get better and try again in 2026.

I think we can jump them with a bad big 12 championship loss as well so may not be necessary if it gets to that point

Blues guaranteed in after today's results.

We need to get to Alabama's spot.

As of this moment we are #16 with USCs loss today.

this evening and next week will need 6 losses from the following list to get to #10.

Oklahoma vs LSU

ND Vs Stanford

Bama vs Auburn

BYU vs Cincinnati/UCF/tech

Utah vs Kansas

Miami vs Pitt

Vandy vs Tennessee

If Tech loses the big 12 championship we are effectively eliminated unless all 7 lose and it turns into a beauty contest.
