Well you can get players hurt though so there is really no point in playing in it.  Teams should just opt out of it.

Sarkisian went on the SEC morning show today and doubled down on both Texas deserving to be in the playoffs and reconsidering the OOC schedule going forward. He basically said, with the SEC going to 9

One thing is clear.  BCS, 4 team playoff, 12 team playoff doesnt matter.  In every case it hasn't been about getting the best x teams in the country.  Tulane and James Madison are gonna get rolled

think the whole goal was for 1 G5 team to have a chance to be some boise st cinderella. not for the ACC to go to a 5 team tie breaker eventually having Duke and Virginia of all teams and Duke end up winning.

the conference still sucks as a whole if FSU and Clemson arent a combined 6-10 in the conference

That was in reference to your lottery playing buddy.

No, you don’t got it.

Your contention was that we had some reasonable shot at getting in the playoffs but were now being "hosed" and held out.

After loss 3 we never had a reasonable shot.  Sorry Skip, it is you who don't get it, but keep fucking that chicken.

And keep in mind I say this as someone who thinks Texas should probably be in.

Absolutely they matter.  My point is aimed at the Texas fans still self-flagellating over that loss.  Texas was competitive in that game and got beat by a coach who pushed all in twice with inside straight draws.

They probably are, but you can’t have a sport where some divisions in that sport have zero chance of making it to the championship before the first game is played.  Every team in America should control their own destiny before the first game.

Cinderella teams can become part of that 68 in basketball pretty easily but James Madison is never going to be in the top 12 in football. They could go undefeated every year for a decade and not be in the top 12.

Put it on the wall

None of the actual contenders to win it all so who gives a shit.

Suck a dick, bitch. You don't even fucking know what you don't fucking know about COTA's dirty laundry. Feel free to take me on about COTA and name even one thing I've said that's wrong (which you can't do, or you already would have).

Bring it on. Please. I'd push your shit in, and you know it. Just do it somewhere else. I look forward to it, but I won't hold my breath, pussy.

Welp, I was about as wrong as possible with us behind BYU. Most seemed to think that bama or OU losing would have gotten us in (that was general consensus for most in media I think going into last week- but that didn’t fucking matter). Nope. Zero nuance. Zero attempt to make games people want to see. Zero care about TV ratings. Zero care about protecting OOC scheduling games. The committee (after seeing some green shoots in 2023 where they ignored the loss column with Florida state and did the right thing) has basically doubled down on the only thing that matters is counting losses in the loss column, regardless of schedule or who you played and NOTHING else is important beyond avoiding losses (CCG losses don’t count as data points for reasons).

we know this conclusively now, they have picked the absolute dumbest timeline that is the worst for the sport, and if we keep any loseable game in non conference we absolutely positively deserve what we get and should be sodomized by a rusty spiked dildo.
it’s the dumbest possible decision that likely costs the most money, the playoffs will be watched by friends and family in the first round and none of that makes sense to me (or the predictor stuff or the gambling markets from the time this was posted) but we have absolute clarity that it wasn’t a 65% chance it was more like a 5% chance and that was only going to hit if EVERYONE ended up with 3 losses.
huh. Ok then. Congrats on killing September football of not tomorrow than 5 years down the line when the schedules play out.

Should have been 16 teams from the get-go and not just saying that because our situation this year. I said this shit when they unveiled the 12 team format.

Here’s the dirty little secret- we still might not have been in if it was 16!  They could have flopped Vandy and Utah ahead of us bc of the loss column and called it a day.

A 9-3 team has never made the playoffs in the 1 year history of the 12 team playoff? Interesting.

Update: a 9 win team has never made the playoffs in the 2 year history of the 12 team playoffs. 10 wins is still the minimum for consideration

I am afraid the only soul searching Sark would do will involve getting out of marquee non-conference games. He thinks playing in the Swamp or the Shoe is hard. Cignetti on the other hand doesn't flinch no matter who the opponent is.

What Cignetti has done is remarkable taking a team that was 9-27 in the 3 prior years to 24-2 in his first two.  Doormat program who was in the division with OSU, UM and Pedo.   BUT…

2024– Played OSU (L) and UM (W) then 7 of the bottom 8 teams (31-55) and really bad OOC.  Great job against really bad competition, went 1-1 in their 2 game schedule before getting knocked out in first round of playoffs. This is A&M this year.

2025-  Played Oregon, Iowa, Illinois, and 6 of the bottom 7 teams (23-49), same gauntlet OOC.  A 3 game schedule and atrocious competition, but they took care of business and just beat OSU.  Conference Champs, heisman, they look like the team to beat.  Sideline demeanor reminds me of Saban

Schedules matter, last year they were a paper tiger nearly identical to A&M this year.  Undoubtedly a good team, but a record built on playing the worst competition they could possibly have on their schedule  outside of 2 games.  I’m rooting for them this year, we get to see how well they do against better competition.

Tl;dr  Cignetti is a damn good coach but let’s see how he does against good teams over a larger sample size

It's a moot point but technically they moved BYU down a spot to #12 but that was done 100% so they could put Miami and ND next to each other to justify the flip on the last ranking.

and they could keep them above us for the CCG shouldn't punish you narrative.  it was all appearances and they could do it because it didn't matter.

but as an auto qualifier though which isn't what everyone is discussing.

Remember the huge hubbub this summer about how scheduling quality opponents and having a good strength of schedule was important to making the playoffs and that losses in those big OOC games wouldn't really hurt too much?

do what FCS does.

8 seeds with 1st week byes

16 team first round

The correct way to put it would be that no team that finished the regular season at 9-3 has made the CFP as an at large qualifier.

That means that Texas will officially play Michigan in the Citrus bowl

I remember what happened the last time we had a season with a 5* QB that beat Michigan in a bowl game prior to that season.

Let’s add this. The OU league average and loving it thread and the aggy will barely be .500 stuff all combined into a big scat thread

For the short-sighted Texas-Hating committee, fucking over Texas was worth trashing it all, no matter how much money it ends up costing them, too, the networks, and the sport.

They. Don't. Care. They are BLINDED by Texas-Hatred.

The committee will count losses only long enough to find some other excuse to keep us out.

Having arch-rivals/new rivals (Mobilehoma, aggy, jawja, piggy-Yurachek), or Big12-Left-Behinds on the CFP committee will never end well.

Dump the goddamn bucee/meatchicken/dohmers series today and add the cupcakes!

BYU sees CFP hopes crumble in loss to Texas Tech in Big 12 Championship

They were already out, trying to play their way in. They didn't lose a playoff spot. Being ranked 11 meant they were already getting left out for the 4th and 5th conference champion.
