Holy shit you dipshits: 9-3 Texas is probably in the playoffs

Featured Replies

There are no guarantees.  Canceling those games does not guarantee or necessarily even improve the chances of getting in those years  .  People are advocating making sweeping changes based on a sample size of 1 ina chaotic system.  Beating Bama OOC was the main reason we made it in with the 4 team format.   With a 16 team playoff and easier SEC schedule, beating ND could be the reason we get in at 9-3 over 4 other 9-3 teams.  The big OOC games are guaranteed.  Guaranteed money, exposure, and opportunity.  Making the playoff is not.  If you are good enough to get in and actually win the whole thing, odds are you will get in - regardless of whether you play these marquee games.  I say keep them.  I don’t give a shit about ND bias.  I happen to think they have - imagine it - improved since the beginning of the year and are a top 10 team.  But even if they don’t deserve it. I still want to play them.  The more games against blue bloods the better.

Sarkisian went on the SEC morning show today and doubled down on both Texas deserving to be in the playoffs and reconsidering the OOC schedule going forward. He basically said, with the SEC going to 9

I would just suggest not losing to a 4-8 Florida team.

I bet Florida doesn't end with that record if they didn't fire their coach mid-season.

Who gives a shit. You don’t go around to every god damn tv network that will listen saying you’re going to cancel and not cancel.

Did we out right say who we were canceling? Most I heard Sark say is future scheduling will be evaluated

Then sark shouldn’t have been out saying we won’t play that game next year.

Well Sark doesn't make that call, does he? That's the AD's job. It was a BS threat and his bluff was called.

College football has been a pageant since the inception - until they have a fixed league of participation with standards we will always have this even with 16 + teams.   We are always debating

I don’t know why he said that. maybe he got AD approval to say that? Or did he wing it? The committee was unimpressed? If he was winging it imo it is bad look. You have to back it up if you are going to say that as your big pitch for why we should get in. I guess? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Canceling the ND series is the symbolic gesture you need. The Michigan and OSU games are home games, would be foolish to cancel them if we have an electric atmosphere like last Friday.

He said we have to "re-evalaute our schedule". He never said he was going to cancel anybody. I say you keep OSU because the crowd will make that game hell for them and I like our chances, especially with a tough runner like Wisner being back. And I would keep Michigan because they suck asshole and will be breaking in a new coach that year. I would cancel the ND series. Fuck them.

Bama lost to 5-7 Florida State by 2 TDs and they will be in. Thanks for your insight.

And just skated by a 5-7 Auburn team that came in 13th place in the SEC.

I mean that should be noted after they noted that we barely skated by MSU and UK.

But the fricken Chair of the committee made it sound like it was a hard fought win by might Bama on Saturday over a legit Auburn team.

That alone should disqualify every member on that committee if they REALLY thought this.

I understand why people are pissed, but I think long term this is a good thing for us.

Sark fucked this year up. He thought he had this program on cruise control and got lazy this past offseason, and totally blew it on his side of the ball with OL and RB rooms. And in a way, I'm glad he didn't get rewarded for it. Wear that chip on your shoulder, get things right this offseason with excellent portal acquisitions, treat every fucking conference game with the urgency it deserves, and let's go win a championship next year. Fuck.

Make money for whom? Not the schools who can cancel them.

We should probably publicly cancel the Domers series tomorrow and then privately tell ESPN that if we end up behind Miami we absolutley will cancel the OSU and Michigan games Monday afternoon.

I like it. Publicly announce we will shoot a hostage every day until they put us in the playoffs.

We are going to bend over Ohio State next September in Austin.

Mark it down.

Did he say unequivocally that we would not play tOSU next year? or was it more like we have to rethink scheduling these games?

To be honest, I haven't listened to any of his interviews.

Sold exclusively at HEB, goddammit.

There’s no need for marqueee games. Just load with cupcakes go undefeated. Profit.   BlowU needed blown coverage to be dogshit lsu bama skated by Auburn. James Madison is coming into the playoffs.  I want all the cup cakes

I don’t understand why OSU would want to play it. They probably are just as eager to cancel it , schedule at home Youngstown State, and still sell it out.  Mitigate risk of loss.

Playoff expansion will not help this issue.

If Ryan Day and Sark make a joint decision to cancel the game I would support it. It would send a message and absolutely obliterate THE MARQUEE game of September next year.

If we had  Notre Dame’s, OU, Tech’s or Aggy’s schedule, we are in.  This is big for recruiting and the chance to win it all.

Canceling OOC marquee games is an easy sacrifice.  Just being in the SEC means we will enough big games then we ever did in the Big XII.  In addition, we risk having a murders row Florida schedule keeping a tough OOC game.  There is a reason Kirby keeps the OOC schedule easy. (GT will be a cupcake next year as it is most years).

It is the best decision and an easy one.

We would be playing the #4 seed in the playoff were 16 teams.

This is why I’m not too upset as well.

Combine that with the Sark to the NFL rumors, and I I think we could be setting ourselves up for a little fun next season…

pos rep.  my favorite post in this thread so far.

We should announce tomorrow we are playing Oregon H and H after notre dame H and H and then cancel it also.

Cancel the ND game, the committee has one 5 days to correct course.

Keep the other two and decide later.

Ryan Day isn’t going to do this.  He’s sitting pretty up in Columbus and will be for the foreseeable future.    The only way anything fucks up Ohio St right now is if somehow Indiana throttles them on Saturday and they drop out of the top four.   That ain’t going to happen.

I am not upset because we play like shit on the road, had the playoffs been pure bowl games I might be pissed.

Miami’s Mario Cristobal Fires Shot at Steve Sarkisian, Texas Amid College Football Playoff Push

While many walked away impressed by Miami’s strong finish to the year, Texas Longhorns (9-3) head coach Steve Sarkisian expressed on the SEC Network that Miami went for style points late in the game to boost its chances of making the playoffs.

“There’s teams that are ranked in front of us that haven’t played any top-10 ranked teams,” Sarkisian said. “My point to everybody is, is this about what your record is at the end? Or is this about beating quality teams and showing how good of a team you really are by beating quality teams on the field. Or is it don’t play good teams, put up a bunch of yards, put up a bunch of points and make it look good. Throw fade route touchdowns with 38 seconds to go when you’re ahead 31-7 so that the score looks better.”

If he thinks there’s a chance he could lose (there is a significant one) why wouldn’t he? It’s mutually beneficial.

Indiana played Old Dominion, Indiana State and Kennesaw State in non conference play. Schools I didn’t even know had a football program until this year.

It is ridiculous a school can do that and be evaluated in the same sandbox as a Texas or Ohio State.

This has nothing to do with next season, that's just a different strain of cope. We don't play the committee members next year so a revenge tour doesn't exist.

Playing better next season doesn't change the stupidity of our being behind Miami and Notre Dame right now.

Because, and here's the important part, college football is ridiculous.

People aren't thinking this through.  They think it's a good game to play if you a have a 60% chance to win.   It's still not.

Miami doesn't have a loss as bad as our loss to Florida.

it’s not the Florida loss it’s the 3 losses. Stop saying the same thing. Yes the loss to Florida hurts.  The same as the one to Georgia and OSU. They don’t lose one of those games then they’re in.  You’re harping on the wrong fucking thing.

and despite the 3 losses we should be in over fucking miami who couldn’t even make their fucking conference title game in a conference that the champ might get left out all together.

Just now, JBJ said:

Correct. It is being proven that it is still always better to play a game you win 99% of the time. Losing by one score on the road against the #1 team is still worse than beating an FCS team at home.

Well their conference doesn't require them to play a P4 team at all. Ohio State and Michigan choose to do this every year. That's the problem. The playoff format has to require everyone be uniform in scheduling.

Revenge tours never work. FSU’s didn’t. And Nebraska’s catapulted them into irrelevance
