My iPhone uses lightning.  The Mrs got an iPhone 17 that uses USB C so I'm looking for a CarPlay compatible adapter for the rare times she drives my car.  My car has USB 2.0 in case that matters.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Just make it simple.  I'm sure the car has a USB-A receptacle, the rectangle, so you just need a USB-A to USB-C.

If you want to get kinky, I guess you can find a Y cable with USB-C and Lightning.

Its not an adapter, its just a cable. They make two ended cables, but many may be charging only.
Look up 2 in 1 or 4 in 1 USB C lightning cables.

On the flip side, I got an adapter for her car (usb c to lightning) so I can use CarPlay there. That works.

I just haven’t found a lighting to usb c that works.

Are you saying you got like a dongle at the end? If the underlying cable is a data cable the connector dongle would need all the electrical connections to enable data transfer. Highly unlikely from a cheap Chinese bullshit one. Buy a cable built for the purpose they are 25 bucks or less.

Also of note, the power is going to be different as well. -c has more juice.

Might be better to get a dc usb-c plugin for her to use.

Yup, dongle.

Get one of these, they work well enough:

I used to use this cable:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08PVLGWQY

which is 2 in 1, BUT it might have trouble fitting in your i[hone case depending on what you have.

Or you can stop being poor and get a USB-C iPhone too or better yet, buy a new car with wireless carplay.

lol, this place is slipping. Can’t believe the poors comment took this long. I may try a wireless adapter. We have native CarPlay wireless in one of the cars but it’s glitchy and sound quality is meh.
